โฐ...๐๐๐๐๐๐, rolled in and it was your first day at your new high school. since freshman year of your high school years, you've been switching schools back to back due to your parents jobs. personally, all the other schools you've been to in the past weren't exactly your favorites. hopefully, your new high school would be different.
angeles high, the largest merged district high school in california. kids from all areas of neighborhoods, coming together to attend this one big school. your dad didn't agree to sending you here since you were gonna surround yourself with others who might be a 'bad influence' as if attending private schools with immature white men wasn't bad enough. your mom let you go, it was her idea to send you here.
your car was already parked in the school parking lot, your coach tote bag dangled by your wrist as you approached the school entrance. you looked around the interior of the school in awe, even though you attended the open house, you were still wowed by how big the school was.
you barely even walked down the hall and people were already glancing at you. it wasn't weird stares or odd stares, it was more of dumbfounded stares, stares of amazement of how pretty you looked. you stood out in a good way, along with the other girls that dressed somewhat similar to you.
you sauntered down the hall in your denim skirt that worn with your black low platform mary janes, pulling down on your black halter crop top that showed off your collarbone tattoo. the charmed bracelets on your wrist rattling against each other at everywhere small wave you sent to other students who were kind enough to smile at you.
you flipped your hair that was newly braided into box braids over your shoulder as you finally made it to the office to get your schedule. knocking the door first before poking your head through the crack of the door, you fully walked in the office to give the lady behind the office desk a warm smile.
"good morning!" the secretary beamed at you, you waved at her with a smile on your face that matched her energy. her long brown hair was clipped up in a ponytail so it wouldn't get all over her face when she's using her computer and moving around in the office. she wore a pant suit for her comfort, her square shaped glasses rested near the tip of her nose. a small golden name tag was placed on top of her desk, '๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐' was printed on it.
"hi i'm y/n richards, i'm here for my schedule," you drummed your nails against the desk, waiting for hange to get back to you. hange's lashes fluttered as she shifted her eyes around her screen to find your name in the system.
"ah there we go, check your phone and you're schedule should pop up by now," she told you with a gummy smile on her face, wondering to yourself if her cheeks ever hurt from smiling so much. you thanked her and left the office, getting yourself prepared for your first period.
homeroom, easy way to settle first thing in the morning. the more you walked down the halls, the more louder it got. this part of the hallway was farther away than the front of the school where the entrance was.
you flitted past the group of boys that were play fighting each other near their lockers, your ears perking at the sound of loud music being played in the classrooms with the doors opened and your smile widening at a group of boys dancing and rapping along to the music.
girls having side conversations with their friend group, squeals and gasps being heard after seeing your cute hair and outfit. opposite genders play fighting and telling each other to get to class. you even peeped in the corner of your eye to see a couple flirting with each other by the water fountain.
let's say, it was chaotic and all over the place. the hallway was so crowded and loud, the students couldn't even hear the bell that rung to signal that the halls needed to be cleared out by now. you finally made it to your classroom after walking through the crowded heads, slowly stepping into the almost empty classroom.
your eyes shifted away from the desks to look at your homeroom teacher that was seated in his wheelie chair, the top of his black hair plopping up and down as he tried to adjust the height of the chair. his eyes was narrowed and his face was resting so neutrally as if he was bored. the designed lines on his undercut drawn your attention, just like his well dressed style for teachings today. a simple button down shirt with dress pants.
"new student? y/n richards?" the teacher voiced out to you, his deep monotone voice snapping you back to focus. you cleared your throat as you approached him whilst nodding that you were a new student. he spun his chair to face you, one of his leg crossed over the other, "i'm mr ackerman, your homeroom and math teacher. you can have a seat anywhere, i don't really care," he stared at you as he explained before averting his eyes away from you lazily to look back at his laptop.
okay, straightforward. you turned on your heel and walked to a random seat in the back near a window. you set your tote bag on the ground right beside your leg and began to use your pink sidekick cell phone since nobody was doing anything but texting and chatting. you stayed to yourself, ignoring the classroom that was beginning to flood with more students which means more noises and annoying humans to levi.
you were so focused on your phone and blocking everyone out that you didn't even notice that someone took a seat right next you. you crossed your legs and sat up in your seat a bit more before turning your head up to look at the now filled classroom.
"aye whats the deal, you new or some?" you heard someone with a husky voice ask you. you craned your neck and turned your head to see who was talking to you and made a double take after realizing the person that took the seat next to you, was the one that asked you that question.
the way this man was looking at you, you were thankful that your hand was covering your mouth to stop you from letting out a squeal. your long lashes fluttered at him to check him out close. his two stranded dreadlocks were neatly retwisted at the scalp, the same dreadlocks reaching down to his neck that was tatted on his light skin.
shifting your eyes away from his neck and hair, they went back to his good looking face. his nose was pierced with a single silver hoop nose ring just like yours. a short, trimmed beard on his chin that was grown out more compared to the mustache above his full lips that was barely seen.
a golden chain was dangling on his neck from him leaning his body against the desk, his crossed arms resting on his desk as he looked at you over his shoulder. to match with his golden chain, he wore a plain white t shirt that was too big for his body and baggy blue jeans to go with it.
"yeah, i'm new," you looked away from him to look back at your phone after checking him out. you listened to sound of his body shifting in his seat so he could face you, his white, jordan retros right in front of your tote bag. you looked down at his shoes to make sure he didn't kick your bag before glancing back at him, a zestful smile spreading across his face.
"i'm zaire," he said, sticking his hand for you to shake, the gold watch on his wrist flashing in your eyes. you took his hand in yours, feeling how soft they were. the handshake was slow since all zaire was doing was staring at you with his eyes clouded with attraction. you felt his eyes on you, making your cheeks warm with flustering feelings, "but you can call me zay," he shrugged while pulling his hand away.
you told him your name and the last school you attended before transferring to angeles high, "oh so you from beverly hills?" he said, almost sounding surprised with his thick brows lifting up.
"somethin' wrong with that?" you tilted your head to the side, pondering about his shocking reaction to you. you waited for him to stop laughing, your brow raising up as he waved his hand out.
"nah, you're just in class filled with niggas from inglewood, crenshaw, compton...man, you get the point," zaire listed the different districts and kept talking about how it's like for mr ackerman to teach y'all, not caring about where they were from, his eyes observing your lips that was slowly parting open before it spread to a smile as you listened to him speak.
you spoke with him throughout the first period, him telling you how fresh you looked with your outfit, your shoes wrapping up your whole fit, "you look fly girl" he would say. furthermore, you got to know him as a person and a student. you got to find out that he's an upcoming boxer, which made you think of connie who you met over the weekend.
"damn? almost everybody i meet either likes boxing or is a boxer themselves," you giggled, zaire laughing with you. his laugh was more calm but always came from the back of his throat to which made it sound more throaty.
"i mean, you in california girl," zaire drawled while leaning back in his seat to man spread, his leg moving from side to side slowly as he eyed you, "boxin' is all talk over here."
"well, i know that," you rolled your eyes, playfully waving him off as you looked away with a cheeky smile on your face. zaire snorted at how bashful you became the more he looked at you. quickly sitting up to lean closer to you with his arms resting on his thighs, he says.
"when lunch time rolls in, you wanna sit with me and my homies?" he licked his lips before smiling at you charismatically, searching for your eyes. you rested your chin on your hand and stared back at him, mirroring his smile.
"they bite?" you jokingly asked, receiving a chilling chuckle from zaire. he shook his head that was lowered before lifting it up to look at you again.
"nah, but them niggas prolly gon bark once they see you," zaire raised his hands up, flickering his eyes up and down at your figure and back up to your pretty face, the both of you erupting in humorous chuckles at what he said.
alright," a sigh leaving your lips.
