Third block comes fairly quickly. Madison had it right after lunch, so she just walked with Liz to the classroom. When the girls got there a teacher was writing in his notebook.
"Hey, Mr. Harrington," Liz greeted, "This is Madison Stark, she wants to join the team."
The teacher turned around and had a huge smile on his face. He shook Madison's hand, "We would be honored to have you. Let's put you up first with Abraham."
The rest of the Decathlon team filled into the class room and started to talk with one another. Ned then walked in an came over to Madison, "Hi. My names Ned."
"Madison," the girl replied. She instantly liked Ned. He seemed sweet and trusting.
A few more kids came in and Madison introduced herself to all of them. And right before the bell rang, Peter came running into the classroom. Madison saw that as her chance to talk to him, but before she could even get a chance to say anything Mr. Harrington spoke, "Alright boys and girls, let's get this show on the road. Madison it's your time to shine."
The girl took her place next the Abraham and shook his hand. A few minutes went by and Madison and her partner were crushing Ned and Charles at the practice round.
Liz was calling off the cards, "Let's move to the next question. What is the heaviest naturally-occurring element?"
Charles instantly hit the bell, "Hydrogen's the lightest. That's not the question. Okay, yeah."
Madison hit the bell, "Uranium."
"That is correct. Thank you, Madison," Liz smiled.
Abraham stuck out his hand and Madison gave it a high five. She was happy that she was starting to fit in. "Please open your books to page ten," Liz instructed.
A few minutes went by and Madison continued to get the majority of the questions right. Sometimes she would hold back so she wouldn't seem like a big know it all.
"You've never even been in the same room as Tony Stark," Flash said, causing Madison to turn her head at the sound of her father's name.
"Wait, what's happening?" Madison asked, wanting to know why her father was mentioned.
Sally, who was laying on the floor, answered, "Peter's not going to Washington."
"No. No, no, no, no, no. No. No," Cindy whined, clearly upset by this statement.
Abraham rang the bell, "Why not?"
"Really? Right before Nationals?" Liz asked, looking at Peter with a sad face.
Before Peter could answer, Michelle Jones spoke, "He already quit marching band and robotics lab."
Everyone gives the girl weird looks. However she adds, "I'm not obsessed with him. Just very observant."
"Flash you're in for Peter," Liz states, not wanting to talk about it anymore.
The boy shakes his head as he flips through his magazine, "Ooh, I don't know. I gotta check my calendar first. I got a hot date with Black Widow coming up."
Madison rolled her eyes, "Like she would ever go out with you. Trust me, I should know. I lived with her."
"Oh so the daughter of Tony Stark knows how to say more than quiz question answers. Fascinating," Flash laughs.
"Yeah I do. And I can do a lot more than that if you piss me off enough," she barked, already tired of Flash.
Flash then puts down his magazine, "Maybe I'll change my date with Black Widow and take you out instead. You would like that wouldn't you."
Abraham then rang the bell, "That is false."
"What did I tell you about using the bell for comedic purposes?" Mr. Harrington asked.
No one answered him as Madison gave another high five to the person sitting next to her.
Soon the bell rings and everyone starts to leave. Madison grabbed her things and chased after Peter. She caught up with him in the hallway and pulled him into a storage closet.
Peter looked at the girl with a shocked expression. The girl gave a smile, "So you wanna tell me what Flash was talking about?"
"What are you doing here?" Peter asked, completely ignoring the girl's question.
"I needed something normal in my life. So my dad decided on high school. Are you not happy to see me?" The girl questioned.
Peter shook his head, "No... No. I'm always h-happy to see you. I just never thought you would come to my school."
"It was the best one," Madison stated, "Now are you going to tell me why you aren't going to Nationals. I'm going and I just joined the team, like today."
"I just... I just would rather be here. Helping the people in Queens. Plus, what if your dad needs me," Peter answered.
Madison gave a smile, "Peter, if my dad needed you then you would know immediately. You shouldn't let that stop you from doing your school activities."
"I know. I just would feel better if I stayed here," Peter replied.
The girl then nodded her head, "Okay. If that's what you want."
Madison then pulled Peter in for a hug, "I missed you."
"I missed you too," Peter replied, accepting the hug.
Even though two months had passed, it felt like it had been years since the last time she saw if. His hair was more grown out, and he was wearing a flannel under a blue sweater. It was different from the science pun shirts she saw him in the few times they talked.
It may seem weird, but Madison did miss him. She thought about him all the time while she was on her trip. The girl regretted not giving him her phone number. He was her first actual friend that was her age, and she accidently let him slip through her fingers.
"So are you gonna tell me what's been happening?" Madison asked.
Just then the bell sounded, letting the kids know that they only had two minutes to get to class. "Damn it," Madison sighed, "I gotta get used to being on a time schedule."
"Welcome to the real world," Peter laughed. He opened the closet door and let Madison go through.
"Such a gentleman," Madison stated, passing by and giving Peter a wink.
The hallways were still full as kids started to just now get to class. Madison and Peter walked together.
"Hey, uh... If you want. Well... you could come over later and hangout," Peter suggested.
Madison quirked an eyebrow at the boy. Peter's face then became red as he tried to speak, "Or not. You d-don't... You don't have to if you don't want to."
"Peter," Madison laughed, "Calm down. Hanging out sounds fun. Plus I like May. She's sweet."
Peter swallowed, "Oh. Okay. Then you could come over after school. I won't be there because I have to go on patrol. But I would be there a little later."
"That sounds fun. Who knows, maybe I can get May to show me some of your old baby pictures," the girl smirked.
Peter shook his head, "You don't want to see those."
"Oh. Well now I kinda have too," Madison gasped.
The girl then saw her classroom for the day. "No, no. You don't have to see those," Peter stated.
Madison then started to walk away, "Sorry, Lover. It's already on my agenda. Can't go back now."
"Hey wait," Peter tried, but Madison was already entering her classroom. She turned around and gave a wave, "See you later. Gotta go. Bye."
And with that she fully entered her classroom. Madison had a weird feeling in her chest and she was smiling to herself like crazy. The girl pulled out her phone and texted her dad, telling him that she was going to be a home a little late.
