"you did what?!" Madelyn yelled before slapping her hands to her mouth. "you did what?!" she repeated, her voice holding the same sense of urgency, just at a whisper.
"dude i don't know, it just happened" Farah replied as she ran a hand through her hair. "she called me a whore, so i punched her. i don't know what to do now, i just ruined everything." the brunette began pacing around Madelyn's apartment which only made her feel worse.
"no! i promise, it'll be fine!" Madelyn said reassuringly, though it fell upon deaf ears.
"i punched Drew's fiancée—my alleged sister on the show—in the face. i'm gonna get fired! Drew will hate me for the rest of my miserable life!" she threw her hands up in the air and continued to pace.
"miserable life is a bit dramatic..." Madelyn mumbled jokingly. Farah rolled her eyes in response and grunted.
"i just—" Farah's throat closed up mid sentence, forcing her to stop. "i don't wanna become violent like my dad."
"girl, don't say that. you're not a violent person, and you're nothing like your father!" Madelyn replied, reaching out to grab her arm as she strode past her, stopping her immediately.
"Madelyn, in the past month i've punched two people in the face. but i'm not a violent person?" Farah raised her eyebrows at the girl questioningly. she pursed her plump lips and sighed.
"to be fair, they were both justified."
Farah shrugged and threw herself down onto the couch, letting out a loud groan. "justified or not, i shouldn't have done it."
"who cares!"
"um.." Farah started with a nervous chuckle, tossing her hands in the air. "so many people!"
Madelyn gave Farah a a dead pan look before rolling her eyes. "yeah, like who?"
"Drew, Amanda-"
"Drew does not care, let me tell you that." Madelyn wagged her finger at Farah. the brunette could only look at her like she had ten heads. huh?
"Madelyn, what?!" Farah questioned inquisitively. she shook her head and blinked rapidly, trying to process the information. the blonde sighed and scooted forward so that she was on the edge of her couch.
"he let you hit her, correct?"
Farah furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "yeah, but it was unexpected. i don't see what that has to do with anything."
Madelyn paused for a moment as though to gather her thoughts. "so, her punch was expected?" Farah sighed in response.
"kinda, but i didn't expect her to throw a punch."
"exactly. why would Drew stop her from hitting you, but not the other way around?" Madelyn explained slowly, trying to get Farah to catch on to what she was getting at. instead, the girl just stared back blankly at the blonde.
"see i'm really trying here, but i don't understand how any of this-"
"Farah, jesus christ! for how smart you are, you're really dumb." Madelyn's outburst made Farah frown deeply. she let out a feigned gasp of offense before clutching her imaginary pearls.
"wo-wow. wow, okay!"
"dude, you just have to realize that Drew is more on your side than you think."
Farah ran her hands through her hair, now stressed about the implication Madelyn just made. "it doesn't seem that way. i mean, it seemed like he didn't wanna speak to me for a long time."
Madelyn scoffed in response and shook her head. "not true. there's just so much going on with him at the moment; so many things he can't tell you yet that it's hard."
Farah flopped down on the couch next to Madelyn. she allowed her shoulders to slouch over and her butt to slide down the cushion, much like a child. but that's exactly how she felt in the moment—like a child.
"i thought we could tell each other everything. we're best friends- or, were." her voice broke, causing Farah to whisper most of her sentence. tears finally spilled from her eyes and sobs were close to follow. "i fuck everything up, Madelyn."
the blonde's eyes softened and she was quick to wrap her arms around Farah's shoulders. she held on tightly as the girl shook in her arms, now being consumed by panic and guilt.
"no you don't. Farah, this did not do anything, i promise."
Madelyn's statement only caused Farah to cry more. deep down she knew that she messed up, that throwing the punch was not her smartest choice. how stupid can you be?
letting out an aggravated groan, Farah roughly scrubbed the tears off of her face. as she pulled at her skin, she began to hiccup.
"oh no! babe, i promise, it's really okay."
Farah shook her head rapidly. "no, it's not okay! it hasn't been okay since the day i met him, and i don't think it'll ever be okay. god! is this what i get for falling in love with him? is this my damn karma, i end up like my father and punch people out when i'm mad?"
Madelyn froze at Farah's words, her eyes widening with realization. she was under the impression that Farah felt guilty about punching Amanda, but now she realized it went deeper than that. it wasn't about Amanda, it wasn't really even about her father. it was about Drew. hot damn.
"oh, Farah..." Madelyn started sadly.
the brunette slowly lifted her head, only realizing her admission after. the tears continued to fall down her face but she now looked horrified, turning to face Madelyn.
"dude...no, that's not- oh my god." she stood up quickly and went back to pacing the living room. Madelyn sighed and stood up, deciding to stop Farah by clamping down on her shoulders and forcing the girl to face her.
"relax. i don't care. if anything, i'm rooting for you two. but what we're not gonna do is freak out about this, cause it'll only make things worse."
Farah slowly nodded along with Madelyn's words. the mixture of the pressure on her shoulders and her friend's comforting tone began to put her at ease. with a newfound confidence, Madelyn squeezed her shoulders and continued to give her a pep-talk.
"everything is out of your control now. the only thing you can do is forget and try to do your best to apologize. it might take time, but it'll be worth it, trust me."
Farah shook her head dismissively. "Amanda won't want to talk to me unless it's in a court room. i can't do that."
"yes you can, you can talk to Drew."
Farah sighed in defeat. Madelyn was right, as much as she hated to admit it. the girl was prone to shutting down whenever something went terribly wrong, so being forced to confront her mistakes was a jolting experience.
"yeah. you're right." she looked down at her feet and sunk her teeth into her bottom lip. "thank you."
"oh, don't mention it! no seriously, don't mention it. this will be our little secret, okay?"
Farah nodded her head and wrapped her arms around Madelyn's torso. she gave the girl a tight hug which was returned with just as much force. when they pulled back, Madelyn held Farah at arms length and grinned.
"so...in love, huh?"
"shut up!"
