Farah sighed as she rolled over onto her side. Her days off of work have become progressively more boring now that Drew is hardly around anymore. Usually, her days off would align with his, so they would always spend the day making up nonsensical games to play and other things to do besides sit around. He always had something to do. But now that she was there by herself, Farah couldn't think of a single thing she could do. Petunia snored beside her, instilling a sense of jealousy in the girl. Why am I jealous of my dog?

Shaking her head, Farah forced herself up from her bed. She had been lying there since 9 a.m. It was currently 12, but she hardly paid any attention to the time she was wasting. After all, it was her day off. Petunia hardly moved when the bed dipped underneath her, only stirring slightly. Farah could hear the continuation of the snores as she walked down the hall. Laughing to herself, the girl pushed open the door to the bathroom and began getting ready for her day ahead. Though she wasn't sure what she was gonna do, she figured that she would get inspiration at some point and would want to go out. So to save herself that trouble, she got ready.

Sometimes she wished that Josh and Jonas would let her come to set when she didn't have to work. she loved watching her friends work, and she figured it would be a nice distraction from her perpetual boredom. But unfortunately for Farah, neither of the two brothers would allow her on set on a day off. while she was occasionally thankful for that rule, she hated that she just couldn't go when she wanted.

Stretching her arms over her head, Farah let out a low grunt. her back muscles tensed up, causing her to gasp sharply. "oh! fuck me." she complained before pulling her hair back in a tight bun.

"I think I could make that work," Austin said slyly while leaning his weight against the door frame. Farah didn't even realize he was home, so when she heard his voice, she screamed louder than she intended. She quickly spun around to look at him, her eyes wide with shock and fear. when she realized it was just him, she began babbling like an idiot.

"Austin..." she shook her head after finally finding words to say. "what the fuck?!"

he began laughing and pushed himself off the doorframe, stepping towards her. "sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. woah- what's this?" he reached out for the piece of jewelry that sat on the counter, to which Farah responded by swatting his hand away.

"don't touch my stuff you— oh, yeah, what is this?" her attention was now focused on the diamond ring that was sitting on the edge of the sink. she leaned closer to examine it, being very cautious to not touch it in case it were to fall. Laughing, Austin pulled his phone out of his pocket and snapped a picture of it. Farah's inquisitive face was still in the shot, which made it more comedic to him when he sent it to Drew.

"you think Amanda bought that for herself?" Austin asked while locking his phone and slipping it back into his pocket. Farah straightened out and raised her eyebrows, unsure of Austin's claims. She then shrugged and returned her attention to the ring.

"Nah..." Farah paused. "she's not like that...is she?" she gave Austin an unsure look, which caused him to break out laughing.

"I wouldn't put it past her," he muttered after calming himself down. His phone chimed and he was quick to fish it from his pocket. His eyes darted across the screen as he read the message, forming an 'o' with his mouth.

"What?" Farah asked, her eyes squinting as she stepped closer to Austin. he tilted his phone and pointed to Drew's text with his thumb.

IMESSAGE!

drew starkey
oops lol sorry

it's amanda's. she must've left it in the bathroom last night ;)

it'll be gone soon

Farah had to reread it a few times to comprehend what Drew was trying to say.

Were they engaged? Why didn't he say anything to them? Why didn't he say anything to her? After all, they were considered Drew's best friends, why weren't they involved?

Shaking her head, Farah looked up at Austin in disbelief. "this is a joke, right?" she questioned, her eyebrows arching high with hope. Austin gave a weak chuckle and shook his head, reaching out to pick up the ring. he began examining it but was quick to set it back down when he heard a door opening down the hall.

Farah and Austin shared a look of uncertainty as the footsteps got closer.

why was he not leaving?

The girl went to push him out of the bathroom but was stopped when Amanda rounded the corner to get in. Her eyes immediately landed on the ring, which had just finished rocking back and forth on its band next to Austin's right hand. Amanda huffed and shoved past him, snatching the ring off of the counter and sliding it onto her left ring finger.

After she put it on, she flipped her hand so that it was facing the two and adjusted the rock to face her— flashing it around as though to say, 'look at me!' She looked up and smirked evilly, her eyes lingering on Farah to gauge her reaction.

fuck fuck fuck, Farah thought. this cannot be real. i'm still asleep.

Amanda pushed past Austin once more before stomping down the hallway and slamming Drew's door behind her. Widening his eyes, Austin looked to Farah and cracked a devious grin. "they're fucking engaged!" he squealed while flailing his hands.

"shhh," Farah put her index finger over her mouth. "I don't wanna hear about it."

Austin rolled his eyes in response and watched his friend carefully. She brought her fingers up to her mouth and began to bite the skin around her nails. Austin noticed instantly and quickly reached up and grabbed her hand, forcing her to stop.

"It's okay, Farah. they'll probably just get an apartment somewhere, they wouldn't move in here," he said reassuringly while rubbing his thumb pad against the back of her hand. She glanced up, realizing that she looked more nervous and upset than she should've been. Unfortunately for Farah, the concern of them moving in wasn't what was bothering her in the slightest. She couldn't care less if they were to move in now.

"right," she said with a nod "of course." Yanking her hand back, she took a step away from Austin. He paused for a moment before clearing his throat.

"Well, uh, I'll go." he took a few steps back and walked out of the bathroom without saying another word. Farah pushed air out of her nose and shook her head slowly. Her thoughts began to spin.

were they engaged? surely not, Drew would've said something if they were. right? right?!

Turning on the faucet, Farah began to splash her face with water to try and clear her head.

An unnamed emotion— which she had felt many times over but never to this extent—coursed through Farah's body. She felt sick to her stomach, but didn't need to throw up. Her heart felt heavy and a large lump formed in her throat. She thought she had become numb to this feeling, whatever it was, but god, was she wrong. It took every bit of willpower to keep herself from crying right there in the bathroom.

"You're fucked" she whispered as she looked into the mirror.
