Tanaka was head over heels in love with you (and Kiyoko... and Yachi, which was a problem since you and Tsukishima were dating. Well, it wasn't like the rest of the team knew that. It wasn't a secret necessarily, since you never kept it from anyone, and you were pretty close. Neither of you were big PDA fans, so it could seem like you were just very close friends, or whatever. Either way, Tanaka was shocked and heartbroken when you turned him down for the literal fourth time. When he asked why, you explained that you and the middle blocker were dating, and apparently that was shocking.
