"I really don't have time for this shit."

Fallon lowers her newspaper and looks at the pacing brunette. Her eyes shift back to the picture in the newspaper.

Gus opens her drawer and searches through it. "Okay, uh...what about this?"

Fallon once again lowers the newspaper and looks at the black and blue dress in Gus' hand. A small snort leaves her lips.

"Seriously?"

Gus' eyes widen, "It's not...cute?"

"Oh, it's cute." Fallon nods her head. "But, it's just not...you." she looks back at the newspaper.

Gus inhales, "Well, this would be easier if you put the newspaper down and helped me." She tosses the flannel back in the drawer. The brunette turns to Fallon with her hands on her hips.

"What are you doing over there anyway?"

Fallon shrugs and motions to the newspaper. "Reading."

Gus lets out a laugh. "The only thing I have ever seen you read are the nutritional facts on your food."

"Well, I have other interests now." Fallon looks back at the newspaper.

Gus raises her brows, "Okay, now this is getting weird, Fal." She holds her hand out toward her friend. "Give me the paper."

"Uh—no."

"Yes." Gus walks toward her.

"August, absolutely not." Fallon seethes.

The brunette raises her brows, "Oh, so it's August now?" She tilts her head. "This must be serious."

Fallon rolls her eyes, "Fine. Here." She holds the paper out to her.

Gus grabs the paper and looks at it. The brunette pulls her brows together. "The marching band?"

Fallon keeps her eyes on her fidgeting fingers. Gus presses her lips together, thinking. Her eyes look over the picture and inspect each person in it. Her eyes land on the girl pressing her lips into an awkward smile.

"Robin Buckley."

Fallon's heart skips a beat.

"Is that who you're looking at in this...grainy photo?" Gus arches a brow.

"No!" Fallon sputters.

Gus raises both her eyebrows and Fallon slumps her shoulders. "Yes."

"Oh, so I'm yesterday's news now..." Gus sets the newspaper aside. She sits next to Fallon.

Fallon presses her lips together, "I didn't know how to tell you this, but..." she turns toward the brunette. "...Gus, my crush on you has evaporated."

Fallon touches Gus' shoulders. "You must be disappointed."

Gus lets out a dramatic gasp, "Disappointed? Fallon, I am devasted!" she stands up and grasps at her chest. "Do you know how this makes me feel?"

Fallon pulls her brows together, "Devasted?--"

"Devasted!"

Fallon throws her head back and laughs.

"I don't think I will ever get over this..." Gus scratches at her brow.

Gus stops her theatrics and laughs too. "I'm happy for you, Fallon."

"And if you need a wing woman--"

Fallon laughs, but she quickly slaps a hand over her mouth. Gus' mouth hangs open. Fallon's eyes widen and she turns to the brunette.

"What the hell was that?" Gus shrugs.

Fallon takes her hand off her mouth and holds her hands up. "I'm just saying...you have never been in a relationship of any kind."

"Exactly." Gus holds a finger up. "I have been single for 16 years of my life and I think I have been around a lot of people to understand what I want."

Fallon deadpans, she then rolls her eyes. "Gus, you want a taken man."

Gus' eyes widen. Fallon knew it was blunt, but she felt like Gus needed to hear it. She didn't want Gus to be hurt by the end of this.

Gus scratches her neck and looks away from Fallon. The coiled hair teen tilts her head and inhales. She knows that Gus still wasn't over her crush on Steve. And ever since they started hanging out as friends again, Gus was beginning to bring her walls down. But she wasn't being cautious around Steve. And that made Fallon uneasy. If Gus wasn't going to be cautious, you know Fallon was going to be.

Fallon stands up and walks over to Gus' drawer. She opens it and her eyes land on a shirt. Fallon grabs the white Star Wars graphic tee. "This is you." she hands it to Gus.

Gus looks back at her friend and her face was beat red. Fallon didn't know if Gus was flustered at the mention of Steve's name, or if Gus was embarrassed that she still wasn't over Steve.

"Also, that black turtleneck." Fallon points at Gus. "It's freezing out."

"And those blue jeans with the rips in them?" Fallon smiles softly. "Wear those."

Gus grabs the shirt from Fallon's hand. "Uh, thank you."

Fallon shrugs, "Don't need to thank me for simple best friend things, Guster." she tilts her head. "Just...be careful. Please."

The brunette pulls her brows together.

"Steve tried to kiss you in his car, right? At the drive-in theater?" Fallon raises her brows. "Don't get under his spell again. I don't want you to make any questionable choices."

Gus inhales, "I get it. And I'll approach him slowly." she nods. "I am a slow approacher..."

Fallon snorts, "If you were a 'slow approacher'. You would think twice before breaking someone's nose."

Gus purses her lips, "Mmmm--I disagree."

"You disagree with that?" Fallon cranes her neck forward.

A knock is heard at the door. Gus and Fallon turn to the door that is still closed.

"Come in!" Gus calls out.

The door opens, revealing the Chief of Police. "Hey, I have to head back out to the station."

"Wait..."

Gus and Hopper look at the confused Fallon. "Hopper, you don't open the door after immediately knocking on it?"

Hopper pulls his brows together, "Nope."

Fallon huffs, "You should talk to my parents about that."

"I've talked to your parents before, Fal," Hopper says. "And they don't like me."

"You're a cop. It happens." Fallon shrugs.

Gus chuckles softly, Hopper glares at her, and her smile drops.

"Uh, hey, Hop. Is it cool if I go out tonight?"

Hopper raises his brows. He looks at Gus, then slowly shifts his eyes to Fallon. Hopper was asking Fallon if this was actually happening and Fallon nods her head, a large smile on her face.

"I am right here, guys." Gus holds her arms out.

Hopper and Fallon look at Gus.

"Sorry."

"That's fine, where are you guys going?" Hopper looks between the two teens.

Gus slightly opens her mouth, "Oh, well...it's actually not with Fallon...it's with..." she rocks back and forth on her heels. "...steve harrington..."

Hoppe cranes his neck forward. "I'm sorry?--"

"Steve Harrington," Gus says, raising her voice.

"Oh..." Hopper nods. "...no."

"What do you mean--No?!"

Fallon lets out a sharp breath. "It seems like you two have a lot to talk about and I should...get going..." she pats Gus on the back and gives Hopper a fist bump. Fallon quickly exits the room. She was not going to be in the crossfire of that.

"Gus, I'm sure you know the definition of what No means." Hopper folds his arms and leans against the doorframe.

"Well, of course, I do. But...you were fine with me hanging out with Fallon, but now you're being weird when it comes to Steve." Gus states.

"He's a boy. And I don't want him kissing you."

Gus tilts her head, "Why do you only assume I'm kissing guys?"

Hopper blinks and Gus shrugs, waiting for his answer.

"Well, I didn't think you were kissing anyone--"

"Hopper, I'm not, but I'm just making a point." Gus exhausts.

Hopper scratches his forehead. "Are we still talking about Steve or your sexuality?"

Gus looks at the ground, "I mean...I guess both."

Hopper smiles softly. Gus and Hopper's relationship has come a long way. Hopper wouldn't even knock on Gus' door to check in on her. And Gus would never talk to Hopper about anything personal.

"I just want you to be happy, August."

Gus' eyes widen and she looks at Hopper. "Oh...thanks." she chuckles softly.

Silence settles into the room and Gus blows air out of her mouth.

"Can we hug?"

Gus softly laughs, "Yeah, we can hug."

Gus wraps her arms around Hopper's middle and he touches the back of her head, hugging her back.

"You have a curfew of 10."

Gus raises her brows, "Really?" she pulls out of the hug, to observe Hopper's expression.

"You have 3 hours--"

"And I will be back at 10 pm. I promise." Gus stands on her toes. She then squeals and wraps her arms around Hopper's neck. "Thank you!"

Hopper lets out a chuckle and hugs Gus back once again.

Gus looks at herself in the mirror and chews on the inside of her cheek. The brunette tightens her yellow belt around her waist and sighs. She ties her vans then looks back in the mirror to examine her eyebags. The brunette exhales a soft breath, "Nothing you can do about them, August..."

The brunette runs a hand through her curly brown locks. She looks to the side at the brown bunny in the cage and holds her arms out. "So, Hedwig. What do you think?"

For Christmas, Jonathan got Gus a bunny. He kept saying that he saw the bunny and decided to buy it for her. But Will told Gus the truth. Jonathan was looking for the right bunny for Gus for weeks until he found the small brown bunny. As soon as Gus held Hedwig in her hands she knew that she would die for that bunny.

And she knew that Jonathan's favorite animal was turtles. So she bought him one. And he named it Stewart.

Gus watches Hedwig nibble on his celery and she chuckles softly. "I think this outfit is cute too."

A knock is heard at the front door and Gus slightly jumps. Her eyes widen and she swallows. "Okay, he's here." she turns to Hedwig, who was now staring at her.

Gus lets out a breath, "Thanks for the luck."

Hedwig blinks and Gus rolls her eyes.

"I know he's taken. He's just a friend." Gus shrugs.

Hedwig tilts his head and Gus' mouth hangs open. "You're the bitch!"

Gus covers her mouth, "I just had a conversation with my bunny...and I just called him a bitch."

"I'm sorry." Gus sighs, her shoulders sagging. "I didn't mean to yell at you."

Gus grabs a strawberry from the bowl and makes her way over to Hedwig. The bunny gladly eats the strawberry and Gus smirks. "Everybody likes strawberries--shit, Harrington!" she grabs her messenger bag and sprints out of the room. The brunette makes it to the front door and quickly opens the door. Gus was a chill girl when she wasn't running on anger. But every time her eyes would land on Steve Harrington, she was a puddle of 'ordinary teenage girl'.

"H-Hi." Gus tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear.

Steve instantly smiles, meeting the brunette's hazel green eyes. "Gus, hey." His eyes shift to her shirt. "Star Wars. Cool."

Gus raises her brows, "So, does this mean you watched the first one?"

"Yeah!" Steve sputters. "Of course..."

One of Gus' brows quirks and Steve's stomach flutters. He looks at the ground for a moment, wanting to get his bearings. Chill out, dude.

"No." He says, looking back at the brunette. "I've never watched it. Like...at all."

Gus slowly nods her head, "I wish I could that I'm surprised."

Steve lets out a soft chuckle and Gus smiles softly. She readjusts her bag on her shoulder. Steve clears his throat, noticing he was staring at Gus for far too long. "Okay!" he claps his hands together and Gus slightly pulls her face back.

"Are you ready for today?"

Gus purses her lips, "UH...sure, but I've only got 3 hours to hang."

Steve pulls his face back, "You say that like 3 hours isn't enough time." he smirks and holds his hand out toward the brunette. "Let me show you the world, Guster." he then moves his head from side to side. "In...3 hours."

Gus lets out a snort and she covers her mouth to suppress her laugh. "Did you really just say..." the brunette clears her throat. "To show you the woooorld." she mocks in a deep voice.

Steve lets out a chuckle and shakes his head, "I don't sound like that--"

"I don't sound like that." She mocks him again. Steve's laugh grows and Gus' heartbeat accelerates.

"You are something else, August Castillo." Steve's eyes land on hers once again.

Gus raises her brows, "Well, then, Steve Harrington. Show me the woooorld."

Gus takes his hand and he lightly tugs her out of the house.

The first thing on Steve's list:

Driving.

"OH MY GOD--GUS--"

"I CAN'T CONCENTRATE IF YOU'RE YELLING!!!"

"STOP THE CAR--"

Gus slams her foot on the brake, and both the brunettes jerk forward. Gus holds an arm out over Steve's chest. Steve lets out a sharp breath. He looks at her arm touching his chest and he looks at her. "You are such a soccer mom."

"Am not!" Gus exclaims, turning to him. She notices her arm in front of him. She pulls her arm back and clears her throat. "Am not!" she repeats.

Simultaneously, Gus and Steve laugh.

"So, I think you definitely need the Chief to help you with driving. Because...you are psychotic--"

"Are you shitting me?" Gus snaps her eyes over to him. "I was not that bad! I am actually a quick learner, so this is nothing for me, Harrington!"

The car slowly starts to move again.

"Gus--"

"Shit, yeah--yeah!" Gus hits the brake again and puts the gear shift into park.

Gus lets out a sigh of relief, "See? I'm learning."

Steve lets out a small laugh. "And to think I was debating on letting you drive on the road."

"I would make that road my bitch." Gus chuckles.

Steve slowly nods his head. "You would, but not in the way you think."

Gus pulls her brows together and looks at the boy.

"You would scare the street into becoming your bitch." Steve shrugs like it was such an obvious answer.

Gus raises her brows and snorts, "Am I really that intimidating?"

"I mean...yeah." Steve shrugs a shoulder.

Steve notices Gus' energy lessened. And a crease forms between his brows. "You okay?"

Gus looks back at Steve and he leans his head against the seat, staring at her with a glint of curiosity in his coffee eyes. Gus inhales a soft breath. She absolutely despised the way he looked at her. He had no idea how it made her feel.

Gus looks away from Steve and keeps her eyes on the steering wheel, hoping to get her thoughts in order. "Um, I just feel like I've wasted most of my life hating myself and making other people's lives a living Hell..." she explains. "...and now I feel like it's too late to make amends."

"Are you talking about Hopper?" Steve knits his brows.

"Hopper, Jonathan, Nancy, you..." Gus taps her thumbs against the steering wheel, not even wanting to look at Steve.

"Me? What did you do to me?" Steve slightly sits up. "If anything, I hurt you."

"But, I never told you that." Gus states. "And I was angry at you for all those years. I was punishing you and you didn't know why..." she forces herself to look at him. "...and for that, I'm sorry."

Steve inhales, he looks across her face, examining the bashful sincerity across her face. He knew that Gus needed to be saved from this moment. Now. So, almost like second nature, Steve smiles. "That must've taken a lot out of you. Apologizing like that."

Gus exhales a soft laugh of disbelief.

"No, no, I'm serious. That apology looked like it hurt. Did it hurt?--"

"Stop it!" Gus lightly nudges his arm, her laughter increasing.

Steve's heart thumps against his ribcage from the hearty racks of laughter, escaping Gus' lips. A smile tugs at Steve's lips, but it gradually lessens and guilt floods into his chest. How could he be thinking of Gus in this way, when he was with Nancy. He loves Nancy. Right?

"Steve?"

The boy snaps out of his thoughts and looks at the brunette, her starry gaze already on him. "You spacing out on me?"

Steve blinks and inhales, "No, no, I'm here." he focuses on her. "What's up?"

"I was just wondering, what's next on this 3-hour adventure." Gus raises her brows.

"Oh. Well, first things first..." Steve unbuckled his seatbelt. "...Steve is now taking the wheel."

"Okay, don't ever refer to yourself in the first person." Gus shakes her head. She then unbuckled her seatbelt.

Once Steve and Gus got in their respective seats of the car, they made their way to the next location.

Loud laughter erupts in the library, catching everyone's attention. There were either glares aimed at the two teens or glances of curiosity. Steve places a finger over his lips, quietly shushing Gus. The brunette covers her mouth and lowers her head behind the book that was sitting up on the table. "This is so stupid..." she whispers.

"And yet you're laughing at it." Steve looks at her from behind his book.

Gus rolls her eyes and snorts. "Okay, okay, my turn..." She lowers her book and her eyes skim over each person in the library.

When Steve and Gus were younger, they used to always go to the library and observe the people living their lives. They would always come up with different scenarios of what the person's outside life was like. At least, that's how Steve played the game. Gus never followed the rules.

Gus points at the couple talking with a book they were sharing. "Today, my son asked "Can I have a bookmark?" and I burst into tears. He's 11 years old and still doesn't know my name is Randall."

Gus turns to Steve and he was already looking at her with a deadpanned expression. She gasps softly, "What? That was funny!"

"You're supposed to come up with a scenario for them." Steve states.

Gus rolls her eyes, "Fiiine..."

"But it was funny, right?" Gus arches a brow.

Steve shakes his head but still laughs. Gus smiles and pokes his side, "I knew it!" she squeaks.

Steve lightly jumps and grips her wrists. "Stop, I'm ticklish!" he laughs.

"Hey!"

Gus and Steve look over to the librarian and her finger was over her mouth.

"Sorry." The teen's chorus.

They both look at each other and laugh quietly. As soon as their laughter dies down, both the teens look down at their hands. Steve's hands were still wrapped around Gus' wrists. Gus' mouth slightly opens and her face heats up.

Oh my god, why aren't you moving? Move. MOVE--

Steve unwraps his hands from Gus' wrists and she slightly sighs. "So, uh...how is everything going? I mean you and Nancy still going strong?" she scratches at her neck.

Steve raises his brows. Every time they hung out, it was like he would forget anything else around them. Now, he was back worrying about Nancy and this feeling he gets around Gus. "Uh--yeah...we're uh...good...really good."

Gus nods her head and presses her lips into a small smile. "That's good...really good." the last part she says in a deep mocking voice.

Steve chuckles, "Okay, you most definitely failed the 'In Another Life' game--"

"Nu-uh!"

"Uh-huh!"

Gus looks back at the couple, "Okay, hang on--let me think." she quietly hums. "They have a dog, named Lancelot--"

"What kind of name is--"

"I'm playing the game." Gus glances at him. Steve closes his mouth and holds his hands up in a surrendering motion.

"Apologies, Guster."

Gus snorts softly, but she rolls her lips into her mouth to suppress her laughter. She turns back to the couple. "They have secret ragers in their basement and for vacation..." her eyes shift to Steve and she wiggles her brows. "...Vegas."

Steve raises his brows, "That's an exciting life they got there."

"I know. So, uh...did I win?" Gus raises her brows.

Steve slightly opens his mouth, about to answer. Gus' smile widens.

"No."

Gus' smile drops. Before she could argue, Steve stands up from the table.

"Okay, next up on our adventure." He holds his hand out to the brunette. "I want to introduce you to my friend Mary Jane."

Gus looks at the ceiling for a second, thinking. She's never heard about Steve having a friend named Mary Jan--

"Oh." Gus purses her lips and looks at Steve. "You mean Mariju--"

"How bout let's not announce that to the whole library?" Steve quickly cuts her off.

Gus presses her lips together, "Understood, apologies."

At first, Gus didn't think it hit her. She was just sitting on a fence next to Steve, her head tilted to the sky.

"I don't feel anything."

Steve inhales, "Maybe you just didn't do it right."

"I did it right." Gus turns to him with a scoff. She squints her eyes as she starts to feel lightheaded. "I've gotta get down from here."

"What? Why?"

"I'm too high!" Gus points at the ground below them.

Steve quietly laughs, "High...because you are high right now, but you're also high above the ground."

Gus knits her brows together, "What are you talking about?" she looks at the boy.

Steve glances away from Gus, then looks back at her with a crease between his brows. "What are you talking about?"

Gus rolls her eyes and hops off the fence. She crouches to the ground and presses her hands against the sidewalk. Gus quickly stands back up and Holy Shit.

She stumbles and her back hits the fence. The fence starts to shake and Steve's eyes widen as he teeters. "Hey, hey, hey--watch it--"

Gus lowers her head and starts to laugh. She covers her mouth and shakes her head. Steve raised his brows, "Oh, it's totally hitting you right now." he hops off the fence and stumbles. Steve regains his balance and looks at the laughing brunette. The Harrington boy quietly joins Gus with his own laughter.

"Gus, you've gotta be quiet."

"No, I have to sit doooown..." she laughs and lays on the lawn.

"This isn't even my house." Steve grabs her hands and lifts her up. Gus' body then goes slump. "Gus, don't go deadweight on m--"

His eyes widen and he falls to the ground with the girl. Steve falls on top of the brunette and they both laugh. He presses his palm against the lawn and stares down at the laughing girl.

"Oh, God..."

Gus inhales a breath and opens her eyes. She meets Steve's starry gaze.

"What's up, Buttercup?" Gus snorts.

"You're just really..." He trails off his compliment and shakes his head. "high. You're really high."

Gus purses her lips and hums for a long amount of time. "I don't feel it."

"Hey!"

Steve lifts his head up and Gus slightly tilts her head back, seeing the man on the porch.

"Goddamn horny kids--GET OFF MY LAWN!!!"

"Scram!!!" Gus shoves Steve off of her. He rolls down the lawn and Gus runs after him. "I'm sorry!" The brunette focuses her eyes on Steve and grabs his hand.

"Come on, Harrington--work with me here--"

"GET THE HELL OFF MY LAWN!--"

"I'M WORKING ON IT, DUDE!!!"

Steve stumbles onto his feet and runs with Gus down the sidewalk. "I am so glad I didn't wear a dress today!" Gus lets out a wheezed laugh.

Gus points to the side, "Here!"

"Wait, huh?--"

Gus yanks Steve into the alleyway. She presses a palm against his chest and pins him against the wall, while she looks around. "Okay, the coast is..." she pulls back into the alley and notices how close her face was to his. "...clear."

Steve inhales, trying to control his heartbeat. "How did you know there was an alley over here?"

"Oh, I used to run this course all the time when Hopper and the other cops would chase me." Gus shrugs, nonchalantly.

"Oh...cool."

"Hey, Steve?" Gus breathes.

"Yeah?"

"What did the policeman say to his belly button?" She inquires.

Steve pulls his brows together, "Is this another jo--"

"No, no...no. This is an actual question." she shrugs.

"Okay, uh--what did the policeman say to his belly button?"

A sinister smile spreads across Gus' face and Steve rolls his eyes. Knowing what's about to happen. "Oh my--"

"You're under a vest." Gus throws her head back and laughs.

Steve looks away from Gus and a chortle escapes his lips.

"A vest!" Gus exclaims as she hits his chest.

Gus pulls her brows together, "Oh shhhiiit..." she quietly laughs.

Steve watches Gus check her watch. "Look at that..." she shoves the watch in Steve's face. "Look at it!"

Steve grabs her wrist and looks at the time. "It says 10:20..."

"My curfew is 10!"

"Oh shhhiiit..." Steve quietly laughs.

Both of their smiles drop and they snap their eyes up to each other.

"Oh shit!"

Gus and Steve stumble out of the alley.

Steve inhales a deep breath, "I really wish...I didn't leave the car...somewhere."

"You're running too slow, Harrington!" Gus calls out.

Steve stops and places his hands on his knees. "No, no...yeah. I don't get how you can run that far, but I'm not gonna do it!" he waves a hand and watches Gus run down the sidewalk. "See you later, Gus!"

"If Hopper hasn't killed me--I'll see you later too!"

...

Gus looks at her window and tilts her head. "Do not try this at home, kids..." she walks over to the ladder on the ground and props it underneath her window. As she slowly climbs the ladder, Gus whispers over and over again, "Keep the conversation short and go to bed."

Gus clicks the window open. She crawls through the window, but her foot gets caught on the sill and she falls onto the hardwood floor.

"Fuck..." Gus groans. She then lets out a laugh. The brunette slaps a hand over her mouth. She takes her hand off and places a finger over her lips.

"Shhh...Guster, you don't want to--"

The light flicks on.

Gus freezes in her place.

Silence settles into the room, but Gus doesn't move an inch.

"Gus, just because you don't move, doesn't mean I can't see you." Hopper leans against the door frame with his arms crossed.

Gus slowly turns her head toward the Chief of Police and a sheepish smile forms on her lips. "H-Hey--Hey! Jim!" she stumbles onto her feet, her legs start to shake, but she keeps strong footing.

Hopper squints his eyes, "Jim?"

Gus lets out a sputter and bunches her shoulders. "That is your name, right?"

"Are you...high, right now?"

Gus' mouth hangs open, "No!" she then laughs. "Why would you..." she looks off to the side and her laughter increases.

Hopper slowly nods his head. "Okay, all right--you are high."

"But, I'm not," Gus emphasizes.

"Gus, your eyes are red as hell." Hopper states.

Gus blinks, "Oh, no..." she rubs her eyes.

"You need some water in your system," Hopper advises.

"Yeah..." Gus nods. She then touches her throat. "It...hurts."

"No, that's cotton mouth," Hopper says.

Gus pulls her face back, "You are such an expert, dad. I now know that you have encountered Mary Jane yourself."

Hopper's eyes widen. Dad. She called him dad. Never has he heard Gus call him that. A smile forms on his lips. It made him feel so much more validated than before. He knew that their relationship was better, but just hearing Gus call him dad; made him feel warm.

"Do we have any food?"

Hopper looks at the blank-faced girl.

"I could eat a horse!" Gus exclaims.

"Come on..." Hopper throws an arm over Gus' shoulders. "...I ordered some food earlier."

Gus holds her hands up and cheers. "You are the best!"

"Yeah, well...wait till tomorrow morning. You're grounded."

Gus drops her arms. She blinks, but then shrugs, "Honestly, it makes sense."
