SALTY TEARS raced down marie's face, the wind picking up speed making it harder for her to successfully navigate the bike that was barely in working condition. she finally stops at the familiar trailer, throwing her bike to the floor as she pushes herself up the broken steps, trying to ignore the suggestive looks from the middle-aged low lives on the porch. slamming the front door, she frantically looks around for anything she can smoke, snort or put in her body.
"where's barry",,marie says to someone without looking up, focused on rummaging through the piles of mess. "i need some fucking coke",,marie mumbles to herself as she knocks something over, spilling beer onto someone's shoe.
"what the fuck",,an all too familiar voice shouted making marie stop what she's doing and look up, "yo, marie",,the person said, their face lined with a stupid smile.
"rafe",,marie nods politely, resuming her search for narcotics, hoping the tall boy leaves her alone. marie isn't scared of anything or anyone and, although it may seem it, she isn't scared of rafe. it's the feelings she gets whenever he's around that scares her. a feeling she's never had before.
"where's your little blonde friend gone",,rafe mumbles whilst looking up at her from the couch, grinning and lining up some coke.
"why does it matter, life's fucked",,marie notices the white substance that rafe has and plops herself next to him, her heart dropping slightly when their legs touched, smiling when he doesn't move his leg away.
marie stares at the boy while he puts his head to the table and inhales the cocaine, throwing his head back when the drug hits his brain. rafe turned to look at her and half smiled, "you want a bump princess?",,he asked, putting his hand on marie knee to steady himself.
marie was at a loss for words, the nickname making her remember the boy that she turned down not too long ago but the way rafe said it made her spine shudder. not to mention the skin to skin contact on her leg, she bit her bottom lip to think of what she wanted to say. so, she didn't say anything, instead, she made the fattest line of coke and eagerly put it up her nose.
"woah, trailer girl don't mess around huh?",,rafe laughed,"do your pogue friends know about this substance problem",,rafe waved his finger to the coke, a smug smile still on his face.
"you are not going to be the one who lectures me about substance problems, rafe cameron",,marie joined in with the playful 'arguing', avoiding any talk about the pogues. the two continued laughing and doing drugs, talking about things they would never even tell their closest friends. marie stopped for a minute, standing on the porch for some fresh air now that the grown men have left. her head was cloudy, she couldn't tell if it was the mounds of coke she had just done or the realisation that she had just laughed more with rafe cameron than anyone else in her life. she wanted to hate him, he's a piece-of-shit kook who only cares for himself, but she doesn't, she feels comfortable with him in a weird, fucked up way. he makes her feel something.
marie walked back into the trailer, sighing when rafe is nowhere to be seen, slumping onto the couch. "so how come we've never actually talked to each other, trailer girl",,rafe said, walking back from the fridge with two beers in his hand, the boy made marie jump out of her skin but she still sat up, making room for him on the couch while taking the beer out of his hand and quietly thanking him.
"because, golf boy",,marie returned the nickname, making him chuckle under his breath,"you are a kook, through and through, and i am just a dirty little pogue, as they say",,marie continues, looking off into nothingness, letting her mind wander. "well, your dad gives me drugs so that means you get a free pass",,rafe jokes, "my dad?",,marie questions, making her howl with laughter, "yeah, and you are pretty cool too i guess",,rafe said under his breath, not understanding why marie is laughing so much.
"that thing is not my spawn",,barry announces coming out of nowhere making both of the teens shit themselves a tiny bit. "country club! are you having fun with my niece over here?",,barry questioned, getting somewhat protective over the younger girl. marie silently giggling at the nickname barry used. "actually, i was just about to leave",,rafe says quickly while standing up. "are you aware that there is about to be a huge ass hurricane out there, sit back down",,barry says, "oh, look whos getting fatherly over there",,marie jokes, motioning at barry, making rafe laugh and barry flip her off. "aight, this is the last nice thing i ever do for someone",,barry says to himself, shaking his head and walking back to his room,
marie sits on her side of the pull out couch, listening to the storm while rafe arranges the pillows on his side, "are you seriously making a pillow wall?",,marie asks, looking over her shoulder at rafe making the bed, rafe just looks up at her, waiting for a suggestion, "we don't have enough pillows for that rafe",,marie sighs and continues to listen to the storm outside. rafe huffed and aggressively moved the pillows back to the head of the bed, "what the fuck are you doing",,rafe spoke out, watching marie stare into space, "listening to the storm",,marie bluntly replied, "you should try it sometime, maybe it'll calm you down",,marie laughed at herself, not a word was heard from rafe,
a soft thud hit marie in the back, she turned around, noticing the pillow rafe had just thrown at her and looked over at the boy who was stood up with a smirk on his face. "oh my god, we are not doing this right now",,marie rolls her eyes and gets up to get a drink from the fridge. rafe blocks her with his hard chest, playfully putting his whole hand around her neck, marie's breath hitched, she couldn't take her eyes away from rafes.
"are you sure you don't want to play my game, love",,rafe mumbled, leaning down so his mouth was right next to marie's ear. marie shuddered but soon collected herself, standing up straight and smiling, staring rafe straight in his eyes, giving him a challenging look.
"I don't know what game you think we are playing but i was just getting up to get a drink, want anything?",,marie peeled rafes hand from her neck and made her way to the fridge, a smug look on her face knowing shes playing rafe cameron.
"you know exactly what i want",,rafe replied with a suggestive look, his gaze following every move marie made.
what made this boy so obsessed with this girl, she was a pogue and he was a kook, they arent even supposed to be in the same room together, let alone the same bed.
and what made the girl so eager to play the boy. what exactly did they see in each other, competition? similarities? maybe it was a chance they saw in each other.
maybe it was just boredom.
boredom that would soon turn into a dangerous game.
