                chapter one: before and after

three months earlier

her dress rode up her skin slightly as she crossed her legs waiting for lucien to get finished changing. they had the spring fling to go to. the boy had told her to be there at this time yet when she arrived he wasn't even done getting ready.

she looked down at her phone as she scrolled aimlessly on  whatever social media app she could get her eyes on.

she felt her phone get taken out of hands and put on the bed next to her as she looked up at the person who had did such a thing.

" you know you could have just said you were ready" she told him with a smile. " oh yeah i totally know" he told her sarcastically.

she rolled her eyes before reaching besides her to grab her phone and standing up. her dress going up more now as when she had reached to pull it down the boy had beat her to it. his hand touched her bare skin as he pulled it down.

the bottom of the dress stoping a inch after her butt. a inch at most.

" your dress is so short" he told her. she looked at him as he spoke. her answer bouncing back straight away. " i thought you liked girls with short dresses, or well no clothes at all" she told him before walking past the boy and towards the door. leaving him to watch as she walked away from him.

he followed right afterwards.

the brunette had sat on the couch as she drinked out of glass cup that she was guessing was filled with champagne as she wasn't quite sure. only happy she wasn't dying from dehydration.

she felt someone sit next to her as she looked at the person.

caroline.

" do you know where my brother is" she asked bella. the girl shook her head. " probably fucking some girl, last time i checked he was with the red head" bella told her.

" there is like twenty red heads here" caroline told her annoyed. " well you better start asking around" bella smiled at her.

" i'll message him" cece spoke out of nowhere. bella almost jumped out of her skin. if bella was being very honest cece was clingy and never took the hint when she wasn't needed somewhere.

" okay okay so he's in the bathroom" cece huffed out in relief. " where's joseph" caroline asked the girl. bella hummed looking around before she spotted her brother causing her to sit up straighter.

" you see the girl with the half died blonde hair wearing that red dress" she asked the blonde. the girl nodded.

" well avert your eyes two people over and there he is" bella told her. she watched as caroline did what she said as now the blonde had watched bella's older brother dance with a girl. both probably wasted out of there mind.

bella looked back down at her phone as a crowd had approached caroline her mind completely moving away from there previous conversation.

after a few moments she heard another voice step into her ear line.

" i always get what i want" caroline spoke. the new voice now joining it.

" you certainly do dear sister" he spoke. " step sister" caroline added. bella finally looked up from her phone at the two step siblings.

but then cece came into view and looked at bella reaching down to whisper in her ear.

" did you know rourke was coming here and with jenny" she asked bella. the girl shook her head. " you have to tell caroline" bella spoke. the girl was going to be pissed.

" we have a small issue " cece spoke in almost a whisper. " how small" caroline asked with a smile. bella grabbed her hand and squeezed it as caroline looked at her. her smile never dropping.

" on a scale of small to substantial it's closer to substantial" cece was beating around the bush.

" tell me" the blonde still seemed unfazed. bella squeezed her hand again.

" rourkes here" cece told her this sent caroline into a confused look. " rourke, my boyfriend, rourke? that's great. Where is he?" caroline asked.

bella had finally made eye contact with lucien as he let out a small smile towards the girl.

" um the thing is he didn't come alone" cece spoke out. this grabbed not only caroline but lucines attention.

" he brought jenny davenport-" cece was cut off by caroline telling the girl to shut up.

" you know who's running against you" cece kept going, bella took the back of her free hand and lightly lit the girl on her arm.

" i said shut up, CeCe that means stop talking" caroline told her. caroline let go of bella's hand as she got up. cece still speaking.

" i need to speak with rourke now" caroline spoke before walking away. cece following right after her. bella stood up pulling down her dress as she felt eyes on her causing her to look up and see the boy already starring at her.

she walked forward as she now stood behind caroline. cece still fucking talking.

she just never knows when to stop.

" good ol'Rourke. what do we think? a horse head in his bed?" lucine spoke.

" oh my gosh shut up" bella told him lightly hitting his arm. the boy playfully rolled his eyes as he put his hand on the small of her back ad they kept walking.

the boy still adding gas to the fire. caroline seeming unbothered still.

" cece can you please shut up" bella spoke out loud as they kept walking, cece ignoring her crys.

" cece shut up" caroline spoke out loud this time cece turned aggressive. " why me? what about him? he's not even being helpful" cece spoke out 

" depends on what one finds helpful" lucien spoke. bella rolled her eyes.

" did you know" caroline asked blaise as she walked past him. " what does it mean to really know anything these days?" blaise spoke before looking at bella. " hi bella" he spoke towards her. " hi blaise" she spoke walking past him leaving lucien's hand to drop from her back as she walked a bit faster to catch up to caroline and cece.

" this is so gross why would you even watch this" bella spoke as she watched the hazing happening. " because it's fun bells lighten up" she heard blaise say from behind her as the rolled her eyes before feeling a pair of hands on her hips pulling her back towards him.

she already knew it was lucien.

her eyes went down to the ground before she heard someone hit the floor.

the room went quiet as she saw scott laying down on the ground unconscious. her hand went to her mouth as she heard caroline spoke.

" well this is an absolute disaster for me"

                                     present day

" headmaster i think this might be some mistake i already told you i don't know anything about what happened to scott" bella told the headmaster as she sat down in a chair across from his desk.

" this isn't about scott, bella" the man spoke. she made a confused face. " then what is this about" the school year just started she didn't know what could be so important.

" as you may know the vice presidents daughter will be attending college here this year, as a freshmen" he spoke.

she actually didn't know that. but nonetheless she still nodded acting like she understood what he meant.

" well i want you to show her around. be her buddy. her friend even" the headmaster told her. bella was still confused.

" no offense but why me, why not like beatrice or someone" bella asked him.

" because i trust that you will do the best job at welcoming her to this new atmosphere" he told her. bella nodded.

" when is she arriving" bella questioned. that's when the headmaster smiled " in about a hour" he told her before getting up.

" i accept you to be one of the first people who welcomes her on this campus, you will be staying in the room next to hers as you may have already saw" the headmaster told her fixing his suit that he wore. bella nodded standing up.

" is there anything else i need to know" she asked him. " she's looking for a sorority house, please lead her in the right direction" he told her. bella nodded in understanding before leaving his office.

bella stood inside the lobby as she waited for the vice president's daughter. she could see her outside of he doors with her family. the brunette girl patted down her jeans and nice looking shirt as she had changed within the hour not wanting to meet the vice president's daughter in short shorts and a full length tight shirt.

it just felt unprofessional to her.

she saw a group of people enter in through the door as she put on a smile at them.

" annie this is bella williams she will be showing you around for your first few moments of college i trust that you will be in good hands" the headmaster spoke.

bella smiled before sticking out her hand towards the girl which annie accepted. " hi im bella, welcome" bella greeted. " thank you, i'm annie" the two formally greeting each other.

it took some time before annie's room was completely set up with the help of bella it went quicker.

" thank you for helping me" annie spoke. " oh of course don't worry about to that's why i'm here" bella spoke with a smile before continuing. " i'm in the room next store if you ever need anything" bella told her. annie nodded.

" hey is there anything i should know" annie asked bella. " stay away from the frats, almost all of them are disgusting vile creatures" bella spoke honestly even with knowing that lucien, blaise, joseph and scott were in a frat.

but again disgusting vile creatures ( besides scott ).

" woah are they really that bad" annie asked. " depends on who you meet, but most are" bella told her. " are you in a sorority or anything" annie asked her.

bella shook her head no. " but i do know a lot of people in sorority's so that has to count for something" bella told her.

" what do you know about lucien belmont" annie asked her. that's question caught bella off guard. " what" bella asked confused. " i did research before i came here and he seemed to be a person that always popped up" annie told her. bella nodded.

" well lucien is my best friend, we've known each other since we were kids but he is a well" bella dragged on.

annie waited.

" he's a whore, sleeps with girls and then leaves them with a fake promise" bella deadpanned. sure he was her bestfriend but it was true. everyone knew it around campus it's just annie had to find out from here that's all.

" wait so have you and-" annie started but bella finished it for her. " no, oh god no" bella told her laughing. " i just would have thought" annie told her. bella shook her head no once again.

" me and lucien will never be a thing" bella told her. annie nodding at her words.
