Liana winced as their healer, Cassie, replaced the bandages on her shoulder.

"Sorry, am I pressing too hard?" she asked, washing dry blood off her smooth brown skin.

"No, it's fine," she glanced over at Jerik, who was pacing the room. She could see blue marks cutting across his arms and shoulders. "What did they do?"

He sucked in a breath. "Nothing that you should worry about."

She followed his gaze towards Taylor, who was still unconscious from his bullet wound. He too, had ugly blue cuts lacing across his shoulders and back. "I can take it," she insisted.

Jerik pointed to his arms. "These are from interrogation."

    "Did you break?"

He glanced away. "They held Taylor at gunpoint and said they'd shoot him if I didn't tell them how many Psychokinetics there were."

"Why would they want to know that?"

"It means that we have less powerful people then they think. They thought there was more than one of you, but now they know if they take you out, we'll be done for."

    "That's not true."

"You're the most powerful person on this island, Liana."

    "But you-"

"It's true. Don't even try to deny it," he sat next to her cot, and she noticed more grey flecks appearing in his hair.

    "You're stressed."

Jerik ran his fingers through his hair. "Looks like my age is finally showing."

Liana looked back towards Taylor. "Can you read his thoughts?"

He smiled. "He keeps on saying the same thing over and over. I can't make much sense of it."

    "Does he respond to you?"

"No. He just keeps thinking, No matter how hard you try to forget us, we will always be there."

Instantly Liana remembered the vision she had shared with them. "That's what I heard in the dream."

He nodded. "Do you want to go in? He might respond to you."

Liana smiled, unable to stop the redness from crawling into her cheeks. "It's worth a try."

Jerik closed his eyes and linked their minds. Instantly she heard the phrase, repeated over and over.  No matter how hard you try to forget us, we will always be there.

    What do I say?

    Anything.

She forced her thoughts into Taylor's head. Taylor.

    The phrase went silent.

Liana tried again. Taylor, it's me. Liana.

With her name, she felt a knot of emotions bubble up from his mind. She would've missed the whisper, it was so quiet. Liana.

A breath of relief tickled her cheeks. It's me. You're safe.

    Are you?

    I'm right next to you.

He took a soft breath, and Liana smiled.

Cassie crossed over to Taylor, holding a cup of warm broth. "Give this to him one he wakes."

Liana felt warm fingers curling around hers. Can you wake up?

I'm trying. My body feels stiff.

You got shot in the stomach.

    Ooh, fun.

She chuckled, glad that he was back to his normal self. How are you feeling?

    "Just dandy."

It took her a second to realize the words were not his thoughts. She nearly strangled him with a hug, trying to hold back the tears that were brimming in her eyes. "You're awake!"

"I'd prefer it if I could breathe," he coughed, and Liana drew back, flushing pink.

"Sorry." She twisted her fingers nervously, trying to tame her fluttering heart.

He grinned. "I missed you, Liana."

"Take it easy," Liana said as he tried to sit up. "You just got shot."

"Psh, that's nothing," but his eyes dropped to his stomach and he paled. "Okay, well.. guess not."

She pushed him back down. "You need to rest."

He grumbled something about Psychokinetics being bossy, but finally obliged. Liana tilted the broth into his mouth, wiping away the excess that landed on his lips.

Jerik coughed, reminding her that she was not alone. "I'm going to give you two some privacy."

Liana glanced away, her face hot. "I'll let you rest."

Taylor raised an eyebrow, but didn't argue. "Don't do anything stupid."

"Why do you keep saying that? It's not like it's going to stop me from doing stupid things!"

"That's true," he smirked. "But try not to, okay?"

She got up to leave, but glanced over her shoulder with a grin. "I can't promise you that."
