CHAPTER ONE, SOS

TW - mentions of child abuse

WIND BLEW PAISLEY'S HAIR BACK, the sound of skateboard wheels scratching the ground and a quiet hum coming from her mouth as she sings to her playlist. peeler only skateboarded on her own when she wanted to keep herself busy. she needed to keep herself busy. sadness overwhelmed her as she stopped at heyward's. she picked up her skateboard and pushed the door open.

"good morning peeler",,heyward says from behind the counter, "hi heyward, how're you doing?",,peeler asked, placing a cherry coke on the counter and grabbing a bag of cheetos. "things are pretty quiet at home without pope, im just glad i get to distract myself with the shop",,heyward smiled through a sigh. peeler frowned, she knew heyward, she knew that all he wants to do is make people smile so it hurt her knowing that he wasn't doing well.

she sat on the boneyard, staring out at the water. her mind went to the pogues. last time she saw them they were talking about gold and acting weirder than usual. she shook it off at the time but know she had herself really thinking about it. "why would they just disappear like that",,she mumbled to herself, digging a stick into the wet sand. it wasn't like them to keep quiet about anything. all she wanted to know was why they went out of the blue.

she got her phone out and started typing.

aj maybank

okayyyy??

aj maybank is the little sister of the infamous jj maybank. aj is probably the only person peeler properly trusts, mostly because of the fact that aj hardly talks to anyone anyway but peeler knew that if anyone knew anything about the pogues running away it would be aj.

the two girls sat on a fallen tree, peeler could see a faint bruise below aj's eye. it was no secret that luke maybank was a horrible person but peeler had never seen luke cause any harm to his only daughter, aj was always the golden child. aj noticed peeler staring and covered up her bruise with her hand, "jj always handled my dad when he was angry so he didn't go for me",,aj explained while looking down at her feet, peeler gave her a sympathetic smile and gently held her hand, "there's always a spot on my couch for you",,peeler assured, aj nodded, still looking down.

"so what was the emergency",,aj changed the topic and finally looked up, peeler looked confused and then she realised what aj was talking about, "oh, the sos",,she laughed, "i wanted to ask you if jj had said anything before he disappeared",,peeler added. aj sat still for a moment, thinkinking about the last time she spoke to her brother, "he said something about john b and sarah still being alive and in the bahamas but everyone knew that eventually",,she mumbled, "he also said how he found the royal merchant gold and some important cross that was connected to the heyward's somehow",,aj stated, "the royal merchant gold?",,peeler gasped, "yeah?",,aj said cluelessly, "ashtynn juniper maybank do you not know about the royal merchant gold?",,peeler laughed, "am i supposed to?",,she asked, "uh, yeah",,peeler scoffed sarcastically, aj just looked at her friend and shrugged, "the royal merchant is a really famous boat, especially in the obx, it sank with 400 million dollars worth of gold on it and people have been trying to find it for years",,peeler explained, "wait, wasn't that the boat big john was trying to find when he went missing",,aj stated.

peeler looked at aj for a moment, "holy shit",,she mumbled, "what?",,aj asked, concern deep in her tone. peeler hopped off the tree branch and started pacing, "this is bigger than we thought it was, they obviously knew a lot more than we know, what if they are running away from someone, a lot of people would kill just to get information on the gold",,peeler added, "we should go to the cops, they can help us",,aj said innocently, "aj, has your brother not taught you anything, one, the cops don't do anything to help us anyway and two, we don't know who is working for who, we need to create our own team",,peeler stated, "how do you know who we can trust enough to help us?",,aj mumbled.

 "oh, i think i know a few people who can help",,peeler laughed as she stuffed a cheeto into her mouth.

chapter one of canyon moon is finally out omgg!!

this chapter was more like a prologue to set the beginning up but I promise you'll meet more of your characters soon

I think im going to dedicate a different chapter to different characters and show how each of them get into the group

im also liking how short the chapter is, its easier to write and it still gets what I want across
