Howard Benson stood over the decapitated body and eyed Harper suspiciously. He knew what Harper thought of Harry's innocence but it didn't explain why they were together or how neither of them heard the commotion that was happening outside.
"Why were you with Harry Winks?" His words were harsh and Harper had no idea how she was going to get herself out of this one.
"I was just talking to him about the case." Harper shrugged her shoulders, trying to be nonchalant about the whole situation. It was important so that Howard didn't grow suspicious but it was too late. He was already suspicious.
"Again? What for?" Howard trusted Harper. He knew how good of a detective she was. Her intuition was outstanding but something didn't sit right with him about Harper and Harry.
"You know that I'm trying to find the missing link, Howard." The older man simply nodded his head at that. He still wasn't convinced but he needed his best detective on the case so regardless of what her personal feelings were, he wasn't taking her off it. She had been the one to realise that thirteen is what connected everything.
"I don't understand why the killer struck today. It disrupts their pattern of thirteen." Howard spoke absentmindedly, watching as the forensics team bustled around the crime scene, making sure that nothing was missed. Every single detail was crucial. They knew that now.
"Howard, what's the date today?" Harper questioned although she already knew. The realisation had become too much for her. It suddenly dawned on the male detective as he spoke,
"It's the thirteenth."
How Howard and Harper had missed this was unknown to either of them. they were becoming tired and their fatigue caused sloppiness, something that they didn't need at this moment in time. The detectives needed to be on their top game if they wanted to bring the killers to justice. Although as far as Howard was concerned, he had all the evidence he needed.
"Harry Winks, you're under arrest for the murders of Cassandra Barker and Ian Jones. There may be a later charge," Howard approached Harry and started to handcuff him. Harry looked surprised but he really shouldn't have. He knew it was coming, that's what Harper had come to tell him after all but he didn't expect it to be so soon.
"Anything you do say may harm your defence and can be used against you in a court of law." The older of the two detectives continued as he started to lead Harry out of the training centre.
All of his teammates stared and watched him be taken away. It was a sad sight for someone like Sonny. Harry had always been a warm and welcoming individual when he had joined the club. They had gotten on so well, Dele included and now, his two best friends were going down for murder. Sonny had iced them out but thinking about it now, he wasn't sure either of them were capable of murder. Especially not when they had been so calculated. That wasn't Harry or Dele at all.
The team then turned their attention to Dele who had also been cuffed and was in the process of being taken away. He would remain in police custody until his bail had been posted. It was a scary situation for both boys but they knew it was coming and so they decided to accept their fate and hope that Harper would pull through last minute, just like their team had done on many occasions in games.
"Detective, can I talk to you for a minute, please?" Harper was pulled out of her trance by the quiet words of Heung-Min Son. He looked worried and Harper wondered what was wrong with him. She knew that he had drifted from Harry and Dele since it had been leaked to the public that they were the top suspects. Perhaps Sonny just needed to be talked through the process of what his friends were going through for some reassurance.
"Of course you can. Come over here where it's a bit quieter." The detective lead him over to a hallway that was much quieter and less chaotic than the crime scene. Everyone was talking. Why wouldn't they be? Two first team players had just been arrested and a member of the coaching staff was the third victim in this series of cruel events.
"I don't feel right about Dele and Harry. They couldn't have done it." Son started and Harper nodded her head for she too felt the same way as he did. The evidence pointed towards the two boys but it was almost like it had all been handed to them as a gift with the ribbon tied in a perfect bow. Everything seemed too easy and that unsettled Harper.
"How did Harry find Cassandra that morning? If he was the only one there, he couldn't get in." Son's words confused Harper. Harry had gotten in because the door had been left open but Sonny didn't know that, it hadn't been released to the public and the boys were told not to say anything.
"What do you mean? I thought you all had key cards to get in?" Harper asked and Son nodded his head which only made the detective feel more stupid. What was it that she wasn't getting?
"Harry lost his months ago and there was a glitch in the system so the security guys hadn't gotten him a new one." Son cocked his head at Harper. how did she not know this?
"Sonny, you're amazing. Thank you!" She yelled out before running out of the training ground and getting into her car.
Harper had been handed a lifeline for Harry and Dele and she needed to put it to good use.

a/n: another week and another update! A lot happened in this one and there's still a lot more to come!
What do you think? Has Sonny saved the day or will it all amount to nothing? (Look at me trying to build suspense, who do I think I am?)
Today's question:
Is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe a Christmas film?
- I was talking to my Mum about this earlier because Disney + says it is and we think it is. The whole film is set in this sort of Winter Wonderland and based around Christmas. Mr Tumnus tells Lucy that they hadn't had a Christmas in over 100 years and let's not forget that Santa Clause himself makes an appearance!
To finish off, Die Hard is a Christmas film too ;)
Enjoy and stay safe!
Lots of love, e x
