August was described as sunshine the second her mother gave birth to her. An hour after giving birth August smiled at her mother and that's when she got the name 'sunshine'. She could light up any room she walked in with her brightly coloured clothes and golden blonde hair. She was a sweet girl with an even sweeter attitude. She rarely hated anyone or got snarking, in her eyes life was way too short to have hate in your heart.

Every summer her family would all go to their summer home in cousins. Her mom bought a house right beside the Fishers because Susanna and Diana grew up together. Diana and Susanna were neighbours when they were teenagers who became best friends and did everything together. When they had kids, their children were only a few months apart, which by the way definitely wasn't planned at all - it definitely was.

August was always a beautiful girl, everyone said it, they never had a bad thing to say about her. But the summer she turned eighteen was different; something changed within herself and within how every other person around her saw her. It wasn't like Belly, it wasn't the summer she became pretty. It was the summer she truly became herself.

Conrad was a prick. He had hated August since he was twelve years old, there was just something about her that pissed him off. Maybe it was the fact she didn't care if he didn't like her or maybe it was the fact that she had everything he wanted.

He never smiled unlike August, and that's how you know he's actually happy. Being the oldest came with a lot of pressure and that pressure was never something Conrad liked nor wanted, but being the oldest also came with a lot of power he liked to abuse. He wanted something he would say, "I'm the oldest, you have to do what I say".

He dreaded the first week of summer because he knew the Madden twins would prank him. Last year they woke him up by putting an ice-cold bucket of water over him. God knows what they were going to do this year; he couldn't wait for it to be over. Something about this summer would be different, he could feel it and he was dreading it.

August and Conrad had grown up as the two eldest - despite Jayden being eleven minutes younger than August. They were constantly pushed together as children, forced to do everything together and with that came a lot of resentment. August had gotten over that resentment very early on feeling it. She knew it wasn't his fault that they were glued to one another's hip as children, but Conrad held onto that like it was his lifeline.

Going from what August would have considered best friends to two people who could barely be in the same room with one another for a prolonged period of time didn't just inconvenience them. It also made everyone around them uncomfortable. Susannah Fisher was sure everything would be fine with them once they got older, but over five years later and them entering their adult life it still wasn't fine. She had one wish before she died and Conrad would rather run into oncoming traffic than deny her of that wish, even if it killed him first.

When Conrad Fisher started to be less bitchy and snarky to August she couldn't believe it. She was sure hell was going to freeze over, but it wasn't like she was going to brush it off especially when she found out the truth.
