"Guys... Please shut up.." Daichi said as he rubbed his eyes. It was an early morning and Oikawa was already arguing with Bokuto about who made a better cocktail.
"Sorry Daichi.." Oikawa apologized.
Only third day in and they're already going diving. That was Oikawa's favorite thing, he even took up special training in order to be able to dive into more dangerous areas.
It was one of the things that Daichi and Bokuto did not have a permission for. That meant that while Bokuto will be diving somewhere near the corals, Oikawa will be diving next to the kelp forest.
Ah, he was so excited. After witnessing that fish tail he just couldn't suppress the excitement in his body.
"Okay, go ans drink a small cup of tea or coffee. No diving after eating, remember?" Daichi said as he finally got out of his bed.
"Yeah yeah, you don't have to remind us" Oikawa nodded his head and went downstairs. It seemed like this day was going to be full of wonders too.
There were no clouds in the blue sky, the sand was already burning his sensitive feet. He stared at the ocean in front of him, the water seemed to be inviting him. All he wanted now was to jump into it and spend his whole day just floating around.
He walked slowly to it and dipped his feet into a rather warm water. Even from here you could see the dark area in the water - the kelp forest.
"Oikawa!" Daichi called him.
"Yeah?" Oikawa turned around and saw Bokuto in his swim trunks.
"Swimming before diving as always" Daichi said and nodded his head, basically giving Oikawa permission to jump into the water.
He smiled and turned around again. Slowly he started walking. The water reached his ankles, knees, his waist. He closed his eyes and relaxed, letting his body get adjusted to the water temperature.
"Ah, this is great. Why isn't Daichi going?" Bokuto asked as he finally caught up with Oikawa.
"He took special lifeguard courses before coming here. He's responsible for our safety. Though, he will be diving aswell later on" Oikawa explained. He did feel a bit bad for Daichi who had to keep track of them while they were diving, but then again it was his own choice.
Oikawa finally decided to let his upper body get adjusted to the water too and withouta word dove into the water, it was so clear and so blue. Once he was finally out he rubbed his eyes.
"Dude, you should have told me you're diving" Bokuto said as he appeared out of the water too.
"Let's go and take that small swim. We have to keep most of our energy for later" Oikawa and Bokuto both started swimming and bit further, they stopped once they realized that their feet couldn't touch the sand at the bottom anymore, after a quick test Bokuto determined that they need to swim back because the depth was already around 2,5 metres.
Unlike Bokuto, Oikawa decided to take his time going back. He started slowly floating back to shore on his back, he kept looking at the blue sky.
After a few minutes he was reunited with Bokuto and Daichi and finally started getting ready for the diving operation.
"Okay, you're gonna be diving in different areas so do not go too far. Bokuto, you'll be exploring the small area of the so called Blue Coral Wave. I think there are Mantis Shrimp there, so be careful. Oikawa, since you're the only one qualified for this - you'll be diving next to the kelp forest, please be careful and do not dive in too deep" Daichi explained whilst the boys were putting on their diving gear.
"Ugh, I wanna dive with Oikawa" Bokuto frowned, but it was his own fault for not taking that course with Oikawa.
Once they were all ready, they climbed into the boat that was given to them. The mission "First Exploration" started.
"I cannot wait... I'm so excited to see what we will find" Oikawa said as he kept fidgeting in his seat.
"Same, I want to find new species" Bokuto said and smiled. They stayed silent for the rest of the time while they were getting to their location.
"Okay, the depth here can reach up to around 50 metres so be careful. Bokuto, you're diving from the right, Oikawa from left. Get into your positions" Daichi commanded as he stopped the boat.
Oikawa put all his gear into place and was all ready to dive. Daichi still checked if everything was okay before giving them a signal.
Oikawa, as he was supposed to fo, fell backwards into the water. It took him a few seconds to get adjusted. He gave Bokuto a thumbs-up before they swam their separate ways and Daichi was left to monitor them.
The water, as expected, was just as clear as the sky. Unlike Bokuto who went straight for the colorful coral reef, Oikawa was left with a stunning miles long kelp forest in front of him. It stood in front of him like a wall, and honestly - Oikawa was a bit scared to dive into it.
He finally moved forward and his body was engulfed into the kelps. He knew that he shouldn't go too far,so he stayed at the entrance for most of the time.
He did get out of it a few times to explore the area next to the forest. The bottom of the ocean here was full of life, from flatfishes to sea stars. He got a glimpse of a bright pink meduzas too, but he knew that he had to dive deeper into the dark dark forest behind him.
And so, he finally did. He knew he had limited time, and yet he was slow. He didn't want to get lost or tangled.
Oikawa spotted movements around him and before he knew it - something or someone appeared in front of him.
His heart almost stopped as he was sure that he saw a human swim by, but that's impossible. They were the only ones here. He swam a bit further and the movements started again. This time he could feel it swimming around him like a hungry shark around it's prey.
And then it happened again, but this time Oikawa saw.
A face appeared and it stared at Oikawa. No mask, no diving gear just those piercing green eyes staring at him. Then a part of his body appeared - no diving suit either.
Oikawa stared at the "person" in front of him. He seemed like a living statue - he was beautiful.
Oikawa didn't know what to do, whether to call for help or no. Though once the "person" finally started getting closer to him he froze in his place.
A long, beautiful and shiny turquoise fish tail appeared instead of his legs. He swam closer to Oikawa and he felt the creatures, if you can call him that, hand touch his face.
Oikawa was just frozen, he couldn't move. Those magnifying green eyes made his body stop moving.
The "person" suddenly looked down and swam away from Oikawa. He was too fast and Oikawa didn't see where he went.
Next thing he knew was that he was frantically swimming out of the kelp forest and up. He finally got out of the water and swam straight to their boat, Bokuto was already back too.
With help he climbed into it and Oikawa practically tore away his swimming gear.
"Whoa.. What happened?" Daichi asked.
"I don't know. Maybe it was an illusion, but I saw someone or something. I don't know.. It looked like a human, but had a fish tail, like a mermaid you know?" Oikawa started rambling. Normally Daichi and Bokuto would think that this was another one of the Oikawa's jokes, but his hands were shaking and his eyes were wide.
And there was a weird blue-ish mark on his chin...

I love Atlantis so much, y'all have no clue. I love writing it so much.
The song that fits Oikawa's encounter with the "mystery merman" (obvs we know who) is DKLA by Troye Sivan. If you want you can re-read the scene but with the song playing.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed.
