armageddon has come to an end!

i know i sound like a broken record when i say this, but i truly can't help myself — these awards were created with a very specific purpose in mind.

at the heart of it, the goal was always simple: to create a platform for writers who had poured themselves into their stories, who had spent long nights crafting words that carried their deepest thoughts, their wildest imaginations, their fears, and their dreams. writers who had so often written in solitude, only to find their work tucked away in the quiet corners of the internet, unseen and unread, longing for the recognition they deserved.

these awards were about honoring and celebrating the beautiful, incredible works that had taken shape — sometimes over months, sometimes over years — and were now, finally, reaching the eyes and hearts of others.

there is something profoundly humbling about being part of this community, where each story — whether short or long, whether polished or rough around the edges — bears the mark of someone's heart.

and so, as i read through the messages that flooded my discord, i found myself moved in ways i hadn't expected. there were so many stories, each one a whisper of gratitude, each one a testament to the quiet persistence that underpins all creative acts. writers shared with me how their books had been added to people's reading lists, how their words were being noticed, how, in the wake of these awards, they'd found themselves part of a larger conversation, a shared space of mutual appreciation.

some of you wrote to tell me that, for the first time, you felt like your work mattered. that someone had seen it and cared. that your voice, perhaps trembling and unsure, had been heard. and that's exactly what this space was meant to be: a place where voices could be heard, where stories could find their way into the world. where writers could find themselves, not just as solitary creators, but as part of something much larger, a collective of people all bound by their love of words, their love of stories, their shared belief in the power of imagination.

there's an old saying that writers write for themselves, and perhaps that's true. but, as i've come to learn, we also write for others.

we write to be understood, to be seen. to share pieces of ourselves with the world, no matter how fragmented or incomplete they might feel.

and the beauty of these awards, the joy of this moment, lies in the recognition that someone else saw it, too. that someone else felt it, too. that your story wasn't just a lonely echo in the dark, but a lighthouse that reached out and touched someone else's shore.

to the winners: thank you.

thank you for sharing your stories. thank you for believing in yourselves, for trusting your voices, for taking the leap. you've inspired so many.

to everyone who participated, whether or not your name was called, you are a part of this too. every word you wrote, every paragraph you crafted, contributed to this vibrant tapestry of stories we're all weaving together.

and for those of you who still hesitate, still wonder if your words are worth sharing, know that you are not alone. there's always room for your story, always someone out there who will hear it, who will connect with it. if this awards ceremony has done anything, i hope it has shown you that. if you've been inspired to write, to keep writing, then that is the greatest victory of all.

so here's to the winners of the armageddon 2024 fanfic awards, and to all the writers whose voices are just beginning to rise. may you continue to create, may you continue to share, and may we always find ways to honor the stories.

ps. thank you all for the lovely messages about how i was feeling disappointed about the rigging of votes. i can't tell you how much they meant to me.

and when i said i wasn't going to continue the awards for the next years to come, i meant it. i honestly didn't know how to move forward from that, and i figured it was better to let go than to keep forcing something that had lost its spark.

but then, after much consideration — and after some apologies — i've decided these awards will continue, year after year, for as long as i'm writing here on this app.

i've learned from the mistakes, i'll tweak things, i'll try to make them better, but the core of it will stay the same.

so thank you. thank you to everyone who took the time to send a kind word or offer encouragement. i never expected it, and i didn't think i needed it, but now i realize just how much it mattered.

i've learned something from all of you, and for that, i'm grateful.

important reminder! if a category has only one book or author, the first place prize will be changed. since they automatically win, there will be no graphic cover designed by me. nor will they get the votes. but they will get the first place badge and permanent follow.
