TO SAY THIS WAS HER DUMBEST IDEA TO DATE WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Adelaide knew Lilith wouldn't be stupid enough to attack her here in Edom, but still being here was not the highlight of her year. She shouldve said goodbye to Alec at least but she didn't want to waste any time. Jace would tell him why she did what she did and that would have to be okay. Maybe they'd reunite in the next life.
A bat flies the the air, letting out a squeaking sound as it comes toward them. Adelaide lifts her hand but a fire ball hits it before she can do anything. She moves her eyes to Isabelle, raising an eyebrow at the woman. "I could've done that but okay." Adelaide says as she places her hands on her hips. Her eyes move around the area, a sigh leaving her lips. "Magnus, where are you?" She mutters to herself as she just wanted to find him before Lilith did.
"We'll find him." Isabelle assures her. Adelaide nods her head but looked a bit distant. Isabelle had been seeing that for a few weeks now. "Is everything okay?" She asks, furrowing her eyebrows. She wondered what might be on her mind.
"Why wouldn't it be?" Adelaide replies as she meets Isabelles gaze once again. Isabelle narrows her eyes a bit.
"You've been acting off lately." Isabelle points out, noticing a change in her behaviour.
"No, I haven't." Adelaide denies, moving her eyes to the ground. Isabelle just raises an eyebrow at her.
"For someone who just got engaged recently, you're not jumping for joy." Isabelle points out, crossing her arms against her chest. It was clear that something was wrong, Adelaide just wasn't saying what it was.
"I hide my emotions." She retorts as she shrugs her shoulders. Isabelle sighs as she shakes her head, gazing at the woman. She would grab her hand if she wasn't afraid to hurt Adelaide.
"Adelaide, it's me." Isabelle says, wanting Adelaide to know she can tell her instead of keeping it a secret. "You can tell me anything." She assures the woman. Adelaide frowns, she didn't want to lie to her but she felt it was for the best.
"Not this." Adelaide denies as she shakes her head, looking away from Isabelle.
"Why not?" She asks, confused on how bad she thought it was that she couldn't say what it was. Adelaide sighs as she closes her eyes for a moment.
"Iz, it's more complicated than you think." Adelaide admits. Isabelle stays silent for a moment, biting the inside of her cheek.
"If it's something about Alec--"
"It's not." Adelaide assures her. She didn't know what Isabelle mightve been thinking but Adelaide would never to anything to purposely hurt Alec. Well, Isabelle may think differently when she learned what Adelaides been keeping from everyone.
"Then I will support you no matter what." Isabelle tells her. If she did something to her brother, she wouldn't be too eager to support the girl, but she didn't believe Adelaide would ever want to break Alecs heart.
"You'll probably get mad at me." Adelaide says. Isabelle tilts her head, a slightly confused expression on her face.
"I promise you, I won't." She assures her. Adelaide still hesitates, biting her bottom lip as she fiddles with her fingers.
"I did something, to get my magic back." She states. Isabelle was a bit skeptical, nodding her head slowly.
"Okay... what was it?" Isabelle asks curiously. Adelaide didn't know whether or not to actually say it. Isabelle might end up slapping her over how dumb of decision she made.
"I made a deal with Jonathan." Adelaide admits and she could see Isabelles eyes soften.
"Adelaide." Isabelle says with a sigh, closing her eyes. Jonathan was never someone who you could trust, especially to make a deal with.
"He uh... wanted me to bring Lilith back and I didn't. So, he linked me to her." She starts to explain. Isabelle already knew where this was going, her hands coming up to cover her face. "Whatever happens to her, happens to me." Adelaide says, drifting her eyes to the ground.
"So, if she dies..." Isabelle trails off, not even wanting to say it out loud. But Adelaide nods her head which confirms her suspicions.
"Yeah."
"And yet you're here to kill her." Isabelle points out, furrowing her eyebrows. Why would she want Lilith dead? Isabelle wasn't about to let Adelaide kill herself just to stop the woman.
"I'm not gonna let her hurt Magnus, Iz." Adelaide denies with a shake of her head. She wouldn't allow Magnus to he harmed because of her.
"Does he know?" Isabelle asks and Adelaide shakes her head. If Magnus knew, Jonathan would be six feet under by now. Isabelle stares at her for another second. "Does Alec?" She questions, wondering if her brother had any clue what was going on.
Adelaide wanted to tell alec but she couldn't. She knew he would stop her. "I can't." Adelaide denies as she shakes her head. "They'll want to figure out another way and there's no time for that." She points out. Maybe before, but right now, it was either kill Lilith or she'll kill Magnus and open the rift.
"Maybe there is another way." Isabelle suggests, mainly just trying to think of something that wouldn't end up killing Adelaide.
"Iz, if you get a chance. Kill her. Don't hesitate." Adelaide tells her, not needing something going wrong. Isabelle doesnt say anything, mainly because she didnt want to be the one who got her brothers fiance killed. "Promise me you won't hesitate." She stares at Isabelle. The woman knew Adelaide wouldn't let up about it.
She didn't want to promise her, but she knew that no matter what, Adelaide would get rid of Lilith. Isabelle knew Adelaide would never allow Magnus to be killed instead of her. She just wished there was another way that didn't leave her brother without his fiance.
"I won't hesitate."

THEY WERE MAKING THEIR WAY THROUGH EDOM, trying to find Magnus when they heard a voice behind them. "Isabelle. Adelaide." As they turn around, they see Jace walking over to them. Adelaide lets out a sigh as she glances away from him for the moment. Of course he would come and try and stop her. "Are you guys okay?" He asks them curiously as he stops in front of them.
Isabelle sighs as she nods her head, crossing her arms against her chest.
"We're fine. But you shouldn't have come." She denies as she looks at Jace who probably thought the opposite. "We need to get to magnus." Isabelle says as she starts to walk again but Jace stops her, clearly concerned for her.
"You don't look so good Iz." Jace tells her but she just holds her hand out.
"I told you, as long as I stay away from anyone with demon blood I'll be fine." She responds. Jace just glances over at Adelaide, raising his eyebrows. "We've been keeping our distance, plus she's half angel blood." Isabelle points out and Adelaide nods her head.
"We just can't waste time." She tells them wanting to find Magnus so that she could protect him from Lilith.
"Including Simon?" Jace asks, clearly not listening to what Adelaide had said. Adelaide groans as she tilts her head back. "It's okay, I get it. He's a good guy. He's been through too much already. It's lucky he's tougher than he looks. I actually always kinda admired that about him." He explains to them. They both jusr stare at him like he's grown two heads.
"You have?" Isabelle asks, slightly amused. But they saw how Jace closed his eyes, scrunching his face up a bit. "You're bonded with Meliorn. You can't lie, can you?" She questions, raising an eyebrow at him. Adelaide laughs as she smirks at the blonde.
"What do you think about me?" Adelaide teases him as she tilts her head. Jace just rolls his eyes as he meets her gaze.
"I'm not answering that." Jace mutters. He would never live it down if he was completely truthful to how he felt about Adelaide.
"Shadowhunters. Over here." Meliorn calls out as he ushers them over to where he was standing. "Is that the keep?" He asks as he points out to a castle that was nearby.
"No. That look like a castle fit for a queen." Jace says with a sigh, looking toward Isabelle and Adelaide.
"Lilith. If those wraiths are piling inside, she must be in there." Isabelle points out, beginning to walk in the Castles direction.
"Hey, hey." Jace stops her from moving, furrowing his eyebrows. "What are you doing?" He asks her and Isabelle just stares back at him.
"Now's our chance." Isabelle points out, wondering why he was stopping her. Jace's eyes move over to Adelaide and she already knew what he was going to say.
"Are you forgetting what will happen?" Jace asks her discreetly. Adelaide knew he wasn't trying to tell Isabelle but she just gives him a smile.
"I told her. And she's on board." Adelaide points out, gesturing to Isabelle. Jace was shocked as his gaze snapped to Isabelle. He was also a bit angry that she agreed to it.
"Iz, it'll kill her." Jace points out with a slightly angered tone.
"Jace." Adelaide says softly, grabbing his hand in hers. Jace moves his eyes back to her, tears starting to well up in his yes. "Its okay." She assures him, offering him a small smile but he shakes his head.
"Alec-"
"You'll tell them we did what needed to be done." Adelaide responds as she stares up at Jace. She could see that he didn't want to do that and he'd rather save her. "And that I'm sorry." She finishes, with a frown. Adelaide couldn't look Alec in the eye and say it herself, she would never be able to go through with it.
"Now's our chance, she won't be expecting an attack. We'll bring the fight to her." Isabelle explains to him, not really wanting to wait around.
"Iz, if you use your heavenly against Lilith, it could kill you." Jace points out, thinking she wasn't really grasping what would happen.
"Not if I use my magic as well." Adelaide denies. She wouldn't allow Isabelle to die as well, not on her watch.
"Listen to your brother, Isabelle." Meliorn says, not wanting to lose the woman either. Isabelle sighs as she looks between both of them.
"Now's our only chance." Isabelle states before she began to walk, not really giving them anytime to complain.
"Why does everyone have a death wish all of a sudden." Jace mumbles with a scoff as he shakes his head. He couldn't believe they both would rather risk their lives instead of finding alternative routes.
"Because we want to protect the people we love." Adelaide answers him, staring at him for a moment before following after Isabelle. Jace frowns as he looks after her. He didn't want to see her die, especially knowing how Alec would feel about it.
But Jace didn't want to lose her either. She was like his best friend and he couldnt even begin to imagine his life without her.

THEY MAKE IT TO LILITH'S CASTLE, seeing the woman standing at the end of the room as they enter. "There she is." Jace points out as they stop in their place. Adelaide gets ready to stop the woman if she dares to attack them. But she had a guess that she would rather find Magnus then deal with them. At least then she would escape to the real world again.
"Lilith." Isabelle calls out, gaining the attention of Lilith who turns to face them. It seemed she was covered head to toe in black blood as she started to make her way over to them.
"My old friends. The shadowhunters." Lilith says with a smirk on her lips. "What brings you to my neck of the woods? New York too cold this time of year?" She asks them, tilting her head. Adelaide rolls her eyes at the woman's lame joke.
"We've come to stop you from killing Magnus." Jace tells her. Lilith can't help but chuckle as she raises her eyebrows at the man.
"You?" She questions, staring at the blonde. "Cute." Lilith responds as she takes more steps towards the trio. "You're in my realm now. Those silly blades are nothing but toys here. And I know you do not want to hurt your precious Adelaide." She points out, gesturing toward Adelaide who only glares at her.
If only she knew just what they were willing to do to get rid of her. "Who said we needed blades?" Jace asks her, looking at the woman. Lilith was confused for a moment until she sensed something behind her.
Meliorn had jumped was coming at her from above with his seelie spear. Lilith turns swiftly, allowing her wing to slice through the man's stomach. Meliorn groans as he hits the ground with the thud. Their eyes widen as they rush over to him and Lilith turned into a wraith and flew off before they could do anything to her.
"He's losing a lot of blood." Jace tells them as he presses his hands against the man's stomach. Adelaide didn't want this to happen, she didn't want anyone else getting hurt.
"Hang in there, meliorn. Okay?" She says with a reassuring smile on her face.
"Just try to relax, nice easy breaths." Jace adds, glancing toward Isabelle who had knelt down beside them. Meliorn moves his eyes to her.
"I am not ready to die. But if I do, at least it will be with you." Meliorn admits with a light smile on his face. Isabelle just shakes her head.
"No one's dying, Meliorn." She denies, not about to let him die after everything he's done for them.
"Actually he might die." Jace interrupts making them all look at him. Adelaide just narrows her eyes. She got that he couldn't lie, but it was a bit annoying. "Sorry." He mumbles as he looks away for a moment. "Look, were gonna do everything we can to prevent that, okay?" He assures meliorn after clearing his throat a bit.
A portal opens causing them to glance in the direction of it. The first they see was Alec which made Adelaides heart drop. "We'd thought you'd be here." Alec says as he looks over at them. Adelaide drops her eyes to the ground. It wasn't like she wasn't happy to see him, she just didnt think she could do what she needed to with him here.
"Izzy!" They hear Simon shouts as he rushes over to the group. "You okay?" Simon asks her, stopping before he could hug her because he remembered that he couldn't.
"Is meliorn okay?" Clary asks, looking down at the seelie.
"Where's Lilith?" Simon questions, wondering where the woman had gone off too.
"She's gone. She turned into this enormous flying wraith." Isabelle explains to them with a sigh as she gestures up toward the sky.
"One of her wings sliced right through meliorn." Jace tells them as he gestures to the injured man. Adelaide was helping a little bit but she was more on guard, knowing that Lilith would come back to find them.
"We'll help." Magnus assures him as he moves toward Meliorn.
"I'll take care of the bleeding." Lorenzo says as they both start to work on Meliorn.
"Ive seen Lilith like that before. When she stole a sliver of my soul, she was strong enough to murder ithuriel." Clary tells them. They knew she was strong so they had to be wary of how they went about stopping her.
"Where is she?" Alec asks them, glancing around the area.
"Coming for Magnus. She wants to reopen the rift." Jace states with a sigh. Lorenzo and Magnus suddenly stop what they were doing, glancing behind them.
"Oh, looks as if she's found me." Magnus points out. As they all turn their heads, they see Lilith flying toward them.
"Not a good look on her." Simon denies as he looks at the group.
"Stand back." Magnus tells everyone as Magnus and Lorenzo join hands before launching a fire ball in Liliths direction. Of course it didn't do anything to stop her. Alec launches his bow, shooting a few arrows in her direction which had no effect either.
Adelaide steps forward, her eyes never leaving where Lilith was. She feels someone grab her arm. "Adelaide." Jace whispers, shaking his head when she looks at him. Adelaide sighs as she pulls her arm from his grasp.
"I have to." Adelaide admits as she turns her head back to Lilith. But before she could so anything, she heard Alecs frantic tone.
"Izzy, don't!"
Isabelle had sent her heavingly fire hurdling toward Lilith. The woman groans as she holds it for as long as she could. She wanted to kill Lilith and at least this way, it might help Adelaide or it might not. At least she wouldve tried something.
An explosion up in the sky catches them off guard and Isabelle falls to the ground, her body still consumed by the fire. Alec rushes to her along with everyone else. Adelaide hung back a little bit, her hand placed on the wall beside her. "Magnus, heal her." Alec pleads as the man used his magic on Isabelle.
"Im trying! It's not working." Magnus tells him. He wouldn't be holding back unlike how Alec may think right now.
"The heavenly fire is stopping us." Lorenzo tells them with a sigh. No matter what they did, it wouldn't break through.
"Adelaide, maybe you can-" Magnus starts to say but stops himself when he sees the woman hunched over. Alec and him quickly move over to her, each grabbing one of her arms. "Adelaide." He says in a worried tone, gazing at her.
"I'm fine." She assures them, putting a smile onto her face. Alec still looked down at her with concern but she wanted him to focus on Isabelle not her. Adelaide didn't need any help.
"What if I put the alliance rune on her?" Clary asks them curiously. "We could bond her to all of us. We could maybe absorb some of the flame?" She suggests, knowing it was a long shot but it was really all that they had.
"How do we know it's not gonna fry us up? Remember, we all have demon blood now." Lorenzo asks her with a slight scoff.
"We all have nephilm blood too." Alec adds, knowing it might stop them from all burning up in flames. Jace wasn't about to think twice in order to save izzies life, none of them were.
"Alec's right. Let's do this." Jace says as he nods his head.
"Form a circle." Clary tells them and they all do what she says. Adelaide tries her best to stay upright.
"It's too dangerous." Isabelle mumbles, shaking her head.
"Izzy, it's the only way we can save your life. We're all gonna die trying." Simon tells her as he looks down at her. Isabelle wasn't really in a place to object as she laid in a circle on the ground.
"We all need to be connected." Clary tells them as she looks around the group. They all grab hands, forming a tighter circle. The heavingly fire starts to get absorbed, making groans leave their lips. Adelaide felt herself growing weaker as she tried her best not to stumble forward.
Luckily, the fire shoots up into the sky causing everyone to let go of each other's hands. Adelaide brings her hand to her head, closing her eyes for a moment. Isabelle stands up from the ground with Simons help. "Thank the angel, you're okay." Alec says as he engulfs his sister in a tight hug. Isabelle smiles as she hugs the man back.
"Thank Clary." Simon says as he looks toward his best friend who playfully rolls her eyes.
"It was all of us." Clary tells them with a smile on her face. Adelaide moves away from the group for a moment, something that didn't go unnoticed by Jace.
They heard another explosion in the sky, causing them to glance up. "Isabelle might be okay but it appears Edom is very much not." Lorenzo points out as they could see multiple parts around Edom start to fall down.
"What's going on?" Isabelle asks, furrowing her eyebrows.
"It looked like the heavenly fire destroyed Lilith. But it looks like the chain reaction is destroying the entire realm." Magnus explains to them as he glances around at the falling fire around the sky.
"Then we should get out of here." Jace tells them, knowing they shouldn't be in Edom when it went down.
"Wait, don't we have to close the rift?" Alec questions, looking toward Magnus who just shakes his head.
"There's not reason to close it if Edom doesn't exist anymore." Magnus tells him making his way to form a portal. Everyone rushes through it, Magnus being the last one through. It was a sigh if relief once they were back inside of the institute.
"I can't believe it." Clary says with a huge smile on her face as she turns to Jace. He tried to force a smile on his face as Clary engulfed him in a hug.
"We did it." Magnus says with a small laugh, shaking his head. Adelaide watched the group celebrate as she turned to lean against the wall. Alec was watching her, his smile fading when he noticed her stumbling.
Taking a step toward her, he noticed her about to fall so he rushed over, catching her mid fall. "Adelaide!" He says, catching everyones attention as he kneels with her on the floor. Alec brushes her hair out of her face as he gazes down at her. "Hey, hey." Alec flickers his eyes over her, trying to find out what was wrong.
Everyone rushes over, surrounding the couple. "Can you hear me?" Alec asks as he gazes down at her with a worried expression. Her eyes meet his and she just puts a smile onto her face.
"What's going on?" Clary asks confused as she stared down at them. Of course, only Isabelle and Jace knew exactly what was happening, both of them already full of pain and remorse.
"Buttercup." Magnus's voice wasn't really audible as he stared at the woman. Adelaide just sends him a smile, tilting her head.
"For a second, I thought Jonathan lied." She admits and she couldn't help but let out a small laugh. This was all happening because she was stupid enough to trust that demon when she shouldve known better.
"Jonathan?" Alec asks, clearly confused on what she was talking about. "What?" He questions, looking around the group. Jace meets Adelaides gaze and he knew she was silently pleading for him to explain in stead of her. And he didn't want her to waste her breath.
"When she made the deal with Jonathan to restore her powers, her half of the deal was the bring back Lilith." Jace starts, barely being able to even glance toward Alec. He couldn't face his parabatai knowing that he had a role in Adelaide dying by not saying something sooner.
"But she didn't?" Simon replies, as confused as everyone else was. Jace clears his throat, feeling like all eyes were on him to explain what was happening.
"No. But Jonathan binded them, so what happened to one, happened to both." He finishes making alecs eyes move back to Adelaide. It was clear to everyone what that would mean. Since Lilith was dead, it was only a matter of time before Adelaide was as well.
"He wanted it so that he could get rid of both of us. I was just too.." She starts, laughing lightly as she tried to put on a brave face, not wanting to break down in front of Alec. "Dumb to realize it till after." Adelaide finishes, wanting to be strong for him. But Alec was the one who couldn't keep it together.
"No, no." He denies, not wanting to believe it. "We can fix this." Alec says as he moves his eyes to Magnus who was knelt next to them. "Magnus, do something." Alec pleads but he could see the complete broken expression on the man's face.
Magnus knew he couldn't do anything to save her. If there was a possibility of it, she wouldve come to him earlier. If he hadn't been so worked up about his own magic, he could've stopped her from making the decision to go to Jonathan.
"T-theres nothing I can do." His voice cracks as he said it, the tears leaving his eyes. Alec seemed angry that he wouldn't even try. So he turned his gaze to Lorenzo instead.
"You're the high warlock, do something!" Alec shouts at him, glaring at the two warlocks. Adelaide takes Alecs hand in her own.
"Alec.." She says, squeezing his hand to get his attention. Adelaide knew he would hate this and try to fix it, but there was nothing that he could fix. This was her mistake and she was paying for it. "It's okay." Adelaide assures him, gazing up at the man who didn't seem like he wanted go let her go.
"No." Alec shakes his head, sniffling as he wanted them to try everything to save but they were just standing there.
"Alec, I accepted it before I went to Edom." Adelaide tells him which makes him look at her shocked, his eyes widening. He could only stare at her for a moment, his eyebrows furrowing slightly.
"You knew you would die.." Alec trails off. She knew the entire time and yet she still did it. "You didn't say anything." He points out, an evident frown on his face as his expression saddened.
"I couldn't let Lilith terrorize everyone--" Adelaide cuts herself off, taking a shaky breath before continuing. "--or kill magnus." She says, her eyes moving to the warlock who could barely even look at her.
"The heavenly fire, it should've destroyed the bond." Clary points out as she leans over the woman. Adelaide just shakes her head slowly, her breathing slowing down.
"It was set the moment I made the deal. Nothing was saving me." Adelaide responds. She saw Alecs broken-hearted gaze and she hated that he had to witness this moment.
"Adelaide."
"I love you." She whispers, smiling brightly up at him as a tear escapes her eye. "In my mind, I'm walking down that aisle right now." Adelaide tells him and he couldnt even force a smile onto his face, all he could do was stare down at the love of his life that was dying in his arms.
"I-i can't lose you." Alec stutters out, his grip tightening on her. But he was never losing her, she would always be with him no matter what. In his heart, in his mind, and watching over him for the rest of his life.
"I'll still be with you." Adelaide's voice was gentle as her breath slows down more, becoming more scarce as her heartbeat stops completely.
"Adelaide, please." Alec pleads, shaking his head. He didn't want to be without her. But as he strokes her cheek, he saw her head slightly tilting. "Adelaide?" He asks softly, sniffling as he watched her eyes slowly begin to close. "No, no." He mutters to himself, holding her close as the tears fell from his eyes.
Alec couldn't believe that she was gone. He thought they had a long life together. They had just gotten engaged and instead of having a wedding, he would be holding a funeral. Instead of happiness flooding him, it would be grief. He just hated how he hadn't known of her decision until now.
He thought they had come a long way from where they had started. From when she was so closed off to him that he didn't even know her middle name. Alec believed they would tell each other anything. But it seemed that she had kept this from him. Because she knew he would've never let this happen. He wouldn't have let her sacrifice herself for them.
Because he would rather sacrifice the world for her then the other way around. It seemed they were polar opposites in the end as well.
