ADELAIDE HAD BEEN HIDING OUT IN HER APARTMENT, too afraid to go to the institute because she thought she would for sure run into Magnus there. She couldn't face him, because she didn't know what she would say. How would she leave his life without mentioning the deal she made? Magnus would never let it happen. She just had to find a way and quick. But as she sat there, thinking of a way to let him down easily, the door to her apartment opened.
Glancing over, she sees Magnus enter and she almost just wanted to run to the balcony and jump. "Hey, I've been looking everywhere for you." He says with a smile as he sees her sitting on the couch. Adelaide had to force a smile as she looks back at him.
"Oh, I've just been here." Adelaide responds as she clears her throat, Magnus making his way over to her.
"You will never believe what just happened." Magnus states as he sits down beside her. Adelaide could guess what it was but obviously that would make it too obvious. The man shows her his magic and she just has to pretend to be shocked.
"Your magic." She says, smiling forcefully, trying to look at him but she found it almost impossible to meet his eyes. "How?" Adelaide asks, brushing her hair out of her face.
"My father gave them back." Magnus tells her, he was still confused why his father had a change of heart. Although it wasn't really because Asmodeus wanted Magnus to join him.
"That's amazing, Magnus." Adelaide replies as she fiddles with her fingers. He seemed happy having his magic back which is what she wanted.
"Now get up, because you and I are going to celebrate." Magnus says as he stands up, leaning down to grab her hands but she just pulls them away making him a bit confused.
"I can't." She denies, biting the inside of her cheek. Magnus furrows his eyebrows as he looks at her.
"Why?"
"Magnus, I need to talk to you." Adelaide says, her voice wavering but she tries to keep it stable. Magnus immediately became worried that something bad had happened.
"What is it, buttercup?" Magnus asks, sitting back down and grabbing her hand, giving it a squeeze. Adelaide closes her eyes for a second, trying to brace herself.
"I can't... I need some space." She tells him softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"From me?" Magnus questions, trying to make sense of it all. Adelaide nods her head which confirms his thoughts.
"Yes." She replies, still not being able to really look at him.
"Did I do something wrong-"
"You just.. I just don't want to be around you anymore." Adelaide lies and it broke her heart to be saying all of this to him. But she knew she had to or else Asmodeus would take back his magic.
"Why are you saying this?" Magnus asks, his jaw clenched as he had become suspicious. She wouldn't just be saying this out of the blue with no reason.
"Because I can't--"
"No, you have never once wanted me out of your life and now you are doing this out of the blue?" Magnus accused as he narrows his eyes at her. Adelaide knew it would be hard to convince him.
"Magnus, I know it's strange, but I can't." She tells him with a sigh, just wanting him to leave so this could all be over with but he wasn't budging.
"Can't what, I just don't understand." Magnus admits as he was trying to put all the pieces together but it was all a jumble.
"Just leave!" Adelaide screams, finally looking at the man who was quite taken aback by her outburst. "Okay?!" She pleads as she just needed him to be out of her sight. "Just get out and don't come back." She shouts at him with a scoff but again, he didn't make any attempt to leave.
"No, I'm not just leaving." Magnus denies, crossing his arms against his chest and Adelaide was growing very frustrated.
"Magnus, please." She just needed him to leave but as she looked at him, she knew that wasn't happening. "Fine, if you won't leave, I will." Adelaide states, deciding to just take herself out of this situation. But as she stands up and goes to walk out, Magnus grabs her arm.
"Stop, okay?" He tells her but she only removes her arm from his hand. She shakes her head, giving a saddened smile.
"Goodbye, Magnus." She says gently before heading towards the door and leaving the man, alone and confused.

JACE WALKS THROUGH THE INSTITUTE HALLS, heading towards the command room as a sigh leaves his lips. As he walks in, he notices that Adelaide was practically hidden behind the computers. Furrowing his eyebrows, he makes his way over to her wondering what the hell she was doing. It seems that she noticed him since she slowly lifted her eyes. "What are you doing?" He asks her curiously, raising an eyebrow at the woman.
"Hiding from Magnus." She responds as she just puts her head back down. Jace was even more confused now, crossing his arms against his chest.
"Why?" Jace questions and Adelaide just sighs, looking back up at him. She couldn't exactly say it's because she made a deal with Asmodeus to leave Magnus' life so he could get his magic back.
"It's a long story." Adelaide admits as she rubs her face. Jace didn't feel like asking any more questions since it seemed she wouldn't answer them anyways.
"Okay.." He trails off slowly, putting his hands in his pockets. "Have you spoken to Alec?" Jace questions, deciding to change the subject. Adelaide just raises her eyebrows at the man.
"What do you think?" She asks him, it wasn't like Alec would talk to her even if she tried.
"You can't just avoid him too." Jace points out, avoiding people was not exactly the best solution for everything.
"I'm not. It's clear he doesn't want to talk to me." Adelaide mumbles as she fiddles with her fingers. Jace sighs as he tilts his head, they were both as bad as each other.
"And how would you know that if you haven't asked?" He retorts making Adelaide clench her jaw slightly. She didn't understand why he cared so much about their relationship. She understood he was Alec's parabatai but was he unable to mind his own business?
"I just know, Jace." She responds, biting the inside of her cheek.
"You and Alec are meant to be together, you can't just let something like this get in the way." Jace tells her, they had gone through too much just to throw it in the towel so easily.
"And what happens when Lilith comes back and we can't break the link?" Adelaide asks him, raising her eyebrows at him. It wasn't as easy as he made it seem. "I'm not going to let her continue to terrorize everyone." She states and Jace furrows his eyebrows.
"She won't. We'll figure it out." He assured her and she just shakes her head. Adelaide knew that not everything worked out in their favour.
"You have to promise me something." Adelaide starts as she stares down at her hands for a moment before hesitantly looking up at Jace. "If Lilith comes back, if she starts to wreak havoc among the world.. I need you to promise that you'll kill me." She says, knowing he would most definitely disagree with her plan but it was the only way to stop her if it happened.
"What? Are you crazy?" Jace almost screams but keeps his voice down to avoid people overhearing.
"Jace, please." She pleads, she knew he was the only person she could ask to do it. "You're one of the only people who I know will go through with it." Adelaide loved everyone to death but Jace knew how to separate what needed to be done from his feelings.
"No, Adelaide. I'm not gonna kill you." He denies, a scoff leaving his lips.
"If we've exhausted all other options and that's the only one left, Jace you have to." Adelaide tells him, if Lilith got to earth, it would be almost impossible to get rid of her again.
"No."
"Jace, please do this. For me." Adelaide grabs a hold of his hand, squeezing it. She could see the hurt in his eyes as he shakes his head.
"I can't do that to Alec." Jace denies, he never could hurt his parabatai like that. Adelaide dying would absolutely break him.
"Alec will understand because you'll explain to him why you did it." Adelaide says as she stares at Jace who still was very hesitant to say yes. "It's just a last resort, Jace." She assures him, it's not like she wanted to die but if she needed to, she would. "Just promise.. promise to possibly kill me." Adelaide was practically staring into his soul. Jace didn't ever want to have to be the one to kill her, but he knew she was right. If he didn't and Lilith got to earth, she would wreak havoc.
"Okay, I'll do it."

ADELAIDE HAD GOTTEN A MESSAGE FROM JACE THAT CLARY HAD BEEN OVERTAKEN BY JONATHAN, and that the two of them were now on the run. Luckily Adelaide was right outside of the club they were in when it happened so she caught them outside. She followed after them but she knew it was only a matter of time before they completely disappeared. So, Adelaide knew she had to do something, even if it meant Jonathan would be after her now.
"Clary!" Adelaide shouts after the woman making her stop for a moment. They both turn to face adelaide and she could see the slight amusement on Jonathan's face, but it was mainly annoyance.
"Well, well. Look who it is." Jonathan replies, clasping his hands together as he walks up to the woman. Adelaide was on guard but her main priority was Clary.
"Jonathan, just let her go, okay?" She pleads, even though she knew that she wouldn't be able to take Clary unless it was forced.
"Let her go? She willingly wants to come with me." Jonathan points out, gesturing to how he wasn't exactly dragging Clary anywhere.
"You have manipulated her and you know it." Adelaide snaps back with a scoff, clenching her jaw.
"You dare accuse me after I helped you?" Jonathan asks, not liking the way she was speaking to him after he gave her magic back to her.
"You didn't help me." She denies, knowing that he had done nothing but use her. "You tricked me." Adelaide states and she could see that jonathan was loving how angry she was getting.
"Well, it was very easy to do so." Jonathan points out with a smirk on his face. Adelaide glares at him before using her magic to throw a ball of magic his way. He blocks most of it but part of it hits his shoulder, causing him to stumble back. "That wasn't very nice." He sneers at her, narrowing his eyes. Clary seemed to jump a bit, worried about him.
"Jonathan-"
"It's okay, Clary." Jonathan assured her as he looks towards his sister for a moment. "I can handle it." He tells her and Adelaide hated how Clary couldn't exactly fight the hold Jonathan had.
"Let me take Clary, or else." She threatens but Jonathan seemed more amused than anything.
"Or else you'll do what? You won't hurt me, not extensively." Jonathan states with a small chuckle as he tilts his head. "You wouldn't hurt poor Clary." He tells her, looking towards the redhead who hadn't really interrupted their conversation.
"Trust me, I'd be doing everyone a favour. Clary would understand." Adelaide states, narrowing her eyes. She sends another fire ball his way but this time jonathan dodges it completely.
"You are really starting to get on my nerves." Jonathan admits as he takes a threatening step towards adelaide who wasn't affected in the slightest.
"Oh, am I?" She retorts before using her magic to push him back a few steps. Jonathan glares at her before shoving her back. Adelaide throws fire balls at him while also keeping him detained to his spot.
Jonathan groans but gets out of the hold as the fire balls hit him. They burn at his skin lightly but he didn't back down. He kept checking in on Clary but focused more on blocking Adelaide's attacks and throwing her back. Adelaide just uses force to throw him a few feet away from her.
"You can't beat me, Adelaide." Jonathan denies as he gets back from the ground. Adelaide just sends a blade his way, and although he tried to dodge it, it got him right in the mouth.
"You sure about that?" She asks with a smirk as he wipes the blood from his mouth. Jonathan just laughs maniacally as she throws punch after punch. Adelaide could see in the corner of her eye that Clary was in pain, but she didn't let it stop her. She just uses her magic to add power to her punch, causing jonathan to go flying, hitting the ground.
It didn't even seem like he was trying to fight her back which was a bit odd. As she goes to move towards the man, she hears Clary whimper in pain which makes her glance over for a split second. It wasn't even that long, but it was long enough for Jonathan.
He uses the split second to lift her off of the ground, her throat closing. Adelaide immediately brings her hands to her neck, trying to breathe. But Jonathan just tightens his hold on her. "I told you, you wouldn't hurt Clary." Jonathan says with a smirk as he tightens his grip. Adelaide gasps as she fights against him, trying to us her magic but it was no use since she kept getting weaker.
Jonathan grabs her blade from her waist, using it to cut at her numerous times. She lets out pained screams as she tried to get air into her lungs. It was no use, she had been distracted too long to give Jonathan the upper hand and now he had it.
"Clary!" Jace shouts, making both Clary and Jonathan glance in his direction. Jonathan let's adelaide go, making her fall to the ground before disappearing with Clary. "Adelaide, oh my god." He mumbles as he runs over to her, dropping beside the girl who was barely moving. Jace heard her weak gasps for air as she had blood coming out of multiple wounds.
Alec had rushed to the sound of jaces voice, wondering what was going on. "Jace, what--" He starts to say until he sees Adelaide on the ground. His heart stops as he doesn't see the woman moving. Alec could barely get his feet to move, he was paralyzed in shock, thinking of the worst possible scenario. He was able to drag his feet towards the pair. "Adelaide?" He asks, his voice shaking as he stares down at the woman who seemed to be very injured. Adelaide had tried to lift her head but Jace stopped her.
"No, don't move, okay?" Jace tells her, not wanting her to make anything worse. "Just hold on." He says as he takes out his stele, activating her healing rune which should hopefully make her feel a bit better.
"Adelaide." Alec could barely do anything but stare at the woman he loved who was most likely in tremendous pain. Jace glances up at him, knowing it must be hard for him to see adelaide like this.
"Alec, she's gonna be fine." Jace assures him, already seeing some of her wounds closing. Although she was still out of it, barely able to keep her eyes open.
"Why didn't she fight back?" Alec asks as he bends down, his hand moving into hers. Jace allows him to take Adelaide out of his grasp.
"She probably didn't want to harm Clary." Jace points out, that was the only reason, she didnt want to harm Clary which gave Jonathan the advantage.
Alec holds her close, his hand on her cheek as he gazed down at her. "You're gonna be okay, Adelaide." Alec assures her as he looks over her injuries very carefully. Adelaide just groans lightly as her vision just becomes darker. Her eyes just close as her head drops into his arms, the exhaustion completely taking her over.
☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎☠︎︎
ADELAIDE WAS SAT IN HER ROOM, just trying to rest after what had happened between her and Jonathan. If she wasn't so afraid to hurt Clary, Adelaide wouldn't have held back. She knew that jonathan was going to do something to get rid of her now. Especially since it was clear that she wasn't on his side. But she didn't know if he was going to try going for Lilith or her. She just had to keep her guard up.
Hearing a knock on the apartment door, Adelaide let's out a sigh. She didn't know who it was but whoever it was, she was not in the mood to talk. Getting up nonetheless, Adelaide makes her way out of her room and towards the front door. Although when she opens it, she was not expecting who was on the other side.
"Alec." She says, her voice showing a bit of shock as she stared at the man. Alec had his hands in his pockets as he just stared back at the woman.
"Can we talk?" He asks her as he looks down at her. Adelaide clears her throat, nodding her head as she moves to the side so he could walk inside.
"Of course." Adelaide replies as she glances down at the ground. Alec walks past her and she shuts the door behind him. She turns to face him, crossing her arms against her chest.
"Are you all right?" Alec questions as he looks towards her. She knew he was worried after what had happened earlier.
"I'm okay, Alec." She assures him as she could barely even keep her eyes on his.
"Good." Alec replies as he nods his head. Adelaide just stared back at him, rubbing at her arms. "You scared me today." He admits, when he saw her on the ground not moving, he thought that was it.
"Sorry." She mumbles, not really knowing what to say.
"Look, I don't want things to be awkward between us." Alec admits with a small sigh as he knew there was a bit of tension between them.
"You broke up with me, so obviously they will be." Adelaide states as she crosses her arms against her chest, kicking her feet against the ground. Alec let's out a sigh as he glances around the room for a moment.
"You have to see it from my point of view, Adelaide." Alec starts but he can see the slight annoyance in her eyes. "You can't just keep making these rash decisions and expecting me to go along with them." He tells her and Adelaide just let's out a small scoff.
"No, but I expect you to at least be there for me." Adelaide points out, she didnt need him just walking out on her when she made a mistake.
"I can't do that if you willingly put yourself in danger." Alec retorts, she wasn't understanding why he truly walked out on her.
"I don't willingly do anything, Alec. I swear, I thought Jonathan was my only solution." She states, what wasn't he getting about that?
"You don't think of the consequences." Alec tells her but it wasn't something that she hadn't already thought of a million times.
"I know, okay?" Adelaide responds as she looks down at the ground, fiddling with her fingers. "I mean, I lost you, didn't I?" She asks, she knew of the huge consequence that she faced other than her link with Lilith, it was not having him in her life.
"You will never lose me." Alec denies as he shakes his head, lifting his hand up to stroke her cheek gently.
"But you don't want to be with me."
"I didn't say that." Alec says as he tilts his head. Sure, he said he couldn't do it anymore but after being alone and his conversations with Jace, he knew he was wrong. "I just need you to actually clue me in on the things you do. I don't want to constantly be in the dark." He states, wanting to be there for her in any way that he can be.
"I just want to protect you." Adelaide tells him, she didn't want to see him get hurt because she would never forgive herself.
"You don't need to." Alec assures her, she didn't need to protect him from anything. "Because we're supposed to be there for each other." He tells her and Adelaide felt a small tear roll down her cheek.
"You still love me?" Adelaide asks, she didn't know what she was hoping to hear, she didn't know if he was going to say no. Even though everything else he was saying would indicate towards a yes.
"Of course I do, Adelaide. That never changed." Alec tells her, he had never stopped loving her. No matter what she did, he didn't think he ever could. "I was just angry, that's why I stormed out." He admits, he needed to wrap his head around everything and he just couldn't do that being around her. "Truthfully, that night was supposed to go a whole different direction." He mutters, biting the inside of his cheek. Adelaide furrows his eyebrows, not knowing what he meant.
"What?" She asks, wondering what he was talking about. But of course Alec just shakes his head.
"Adelaide, I know who you are and I love every part of you. It just frustrates me when you don't tell me certain things that affect me as well." Alec explains to her with a sigh leaving his lips. Adelaide knew that was the reason he walked out, and she had never meant to leave him out, she just made so many impulse decisions.
"I'll tell you everything from now on, I promise." Adelaide assures him as she didn't want to lose him. Alec smiles gently as he nods his head.
"I know." Alec trusted that she would hold her word, he just had to also be more lenient with her decisions. "There's no one else in this world who is perfect for me like you are. And there's no one else who I'd have walk down the aisle." At those words, Adelaide practically froze in her place. It hit her what he meant by how the other night was supposed to go differently. He was going to propose.
"Alec-"
"Adelaide, you are it for me." Alec states as he puts his hands on her cheeks. Adelaide stays silent as she just gazes up at him. "And although we may fight and definitely make some bad decisions. There isn't anyone else who I'd rather be with." He explains to her and she so desperately wanted to say something back, but she was afraid. Because he didn't know what was really going on in her life and she didn't want to lose him yet again. "I love you, adelaide. And I will love you forever." Alec says as he takes her hands in his own. For a moment, she thought he was done with what he wanted to say. That was until he started to kneel down.
Adelaide could feel the shock fill her body as she could only stare as Alec brought a ring out of his pocket. Her eyes were wide as her lips parted slightly. She was not expecting him to do this at all, she never even knew that he had bought a ring. "Will you marry me?" Alec asks her, his eyes full of love and admiration as he held the ring out towards her.
She didn't know how to react. Adelaide knew she should be happy, ecstatic. And she would be if it was under any other circumstances. If she knew that she'd actually make it to their wedding day. A part of her wanted to say no, not because of him or anything involving how much she cared for him. It was solely because she thought it would hurt less for him if in the end, it didn't work out for her with Lilith.
But her heart was screaming at her to say yes. This was everything she ever wanted and the fact that it was Alec made it infinitely better. She was in love with him and no one else would ever compare to what he had given her. Her mind was in a dilemma because on one hand, she would break his heart if she said no, but on the other, he would be devastated if she were to end up dead because of jonathan. Either way it was a lose-lose situation.
So she did what any rational woman would do.
"Yes."
