            SHORTENED STORY: Persephone was the daughter of Zeus (ruler of all gods on mount Olympus) and Demeter (goddess of agriculture). Persephone was raised by her mother and she was taught innocence. One day, while she was playing with the Nymphs in a field, she caught Hades eye (god of the underworld). Hades was captured by her beauty and tenderness and always returned to watch her from afar. One day, Hades asked Zeus if he could marry his daughter, and Zeus accepted because he thought Hades was a very powerful and rich god. Persephone was swept away by a carriage to the underworld, her screams left unheard. Demeter noticed her disappearance immediately and threw a temper tantrum, freezing the earth and killing all crops until she returned. Persephone did return eventually, after eating 6 pomegranate seeds in the underworld (which bound her to the land), and she had to make a deal with Zeus and Hades. For 6 months, she would be in the underworld, and for 6 months she would be in the over world with her mother.
