"Repeat. All hands and all passengers report to the tween hull immediately."
"They did it! They took the bridge!" John B grinned as the message on the intercom came through.
"That's our boy," JJ grinned, reaching up to take the grate away. "Okay, so once they're all in the hull, Kie and I will lock them inside."
"Yeah, and Elle and I'll be on hand to help if there's any problems," Tyler nodded.
"And I'll find Sarah and get the lifeboat," finished John B.
"Then we'll meet you, load the cross and get the fuck outta here," Elora nodded.
"Okay, let's roll," Kie smirked.
It was a fucking blessing to get out of that container. Elora went last, just after Tyler, and all the others watched her as she maneuvered her body onto the barrels outside and down onto the ground.
The first thing she did was assess her surroundings. They were on the ship, alright. All around them, all she could see was supplies and then, beyond that, water.
However, she didn't get much time because next second, all five of them were sneaking round the back of the container, John B taking the lead because he'd done this before.
"Hey," Tyler whispered to her, because he'd seen her looking around. "It's alright. We'll be okay."
Elora looked at him, and nodded.
And did her best to believe him.
๐๐๐
It wasn't any colder down in the hull, crouched in a hiding position as she watched people crowd in.
"Where are we going? And where's dad?"
"I don't know, Wheezie."
Her eyes widened as her gaze caught on three of the five Camerons, walking in. Wheezie came first, then Rose, then Rafe. Sarah and Ward were nowhere to be seen.
But no. Because last second, Rafe switched courses. Elora's body locked up as she squished futher against the wall, the blonde boy walking away from the hull, and not towards it.
"That's everyone," she hissed to Tyler. "Everyone except Ward and Rafe."
"We can't wait," Tyler shook his head. "Kie and JJ just need to lock them down and we'll deal with Ward and Rafe."
And it seems their friends saw this point of view as well, because next second both Kie and JJ were sprinting out from their hiding place towards the door, slamming it shut.
However, in the last second they were spotted, and met with resistance as they tried to shut the door, the crew inside yelling and shouting.
"Ty! Elle!" JJ yelled behind him as he and Kie struggled to shut the heavy metal door.
"Go! Go, go!"
Elora's legs burned as she and Tyler sprinted out to help their friends. They rammed their bodies against the door, adding extra weight to get it shut and managing to close the lock on it.
"Try the other door!" Elora heard a man shout inside.
"Shit there's another door-"
"Elora!"
Without another word Elle was sprinting round the side of the boat and trying to find the other escape route. It wasn't hard, and as soon as she saw it she ran straight at it, slamming it shut hard and turning the lock with Tyler's help.
Elora grunted, shaking out her hands as she and Tyler looked at each other.
"C Team comes out on top," the blonde grinned, doing the Pogue handshake with her.
Elora chuckled slightly. "As always."
Tyler smirked back at her, looking more handsome than ever in the dim red light. "Come on, we have a cross to find."
๐๐๐
She grunted heavily as went down the ladder after JJ into another compartment which contained the cross.
"Time to jack this loot," JJ commented as he landed, Elle right beside him.
"Yep."
They all smiled slightly as they looked down at it in all its glory. Yes, it was in a wooden crate, surrounded by a grey cloth, but it was still the same cross they'd found in the church only a day and a bit ago.
"Bingo," Tyler said, running a hand along the golden surface.
"Hell yeah," Kie grinned, hi fiving him.
"Right, let's cover this," Elora said, leaning over to move the cloth and cover the cross back up again.
Just as the roof above them opened up, revealing Pope, standing over them with an awestruck yet strong expression on his face.
A relieved chuckle escaped all their mouths as they stared up at him, and JJ and Tyler both whooped in joy. Elora and Kie put an arm round each other, giggling like crazy.
"That's what I'm talking about! Let's go!"
"The time where people do shit to us and we just sit back and take it is over!" Pope held a hand up to the sky.
"Fuck yes!" Elora screamed in joy.
"Whoo! That's my boy!"
"Hell yeah!"
"Let's get this cross, baby!"
The plan was set and in motion.
JJ, Tyler, Elora and Kie would attach some sort of rope to the cross, and Pope would use the crane on board the ship to transport it. They couldn't afford to take the crate.
"Here, let's tie it up," Kie said, as Pope disappeared from above them on his own mission.
"Yep," Elora said, as they cut off a bit of the grey cloth and tied it up onto the cross.
When the crane hook appeared in front of them they knew Pope had been successful, and Tyler worked hard to attach it to the cross so it wouldn't fall off.
"Alright, take her up, Pope!" JJ shouted once they were sure their rigging was secure.
"Okay!" They heard him shout back, muffled by the glass of the crane
"Slowly! Slowly!" Kie warned as the cross went shooting upwards, standing up in front of them before they knew it.
"Alright, bring her into the middle!" Elora instructed, Pope going the wrong way and heading too far left. "Wrong way!"
"Your other middle!" Kie roared.
As Pope got the cross in the middle and began to take it up higher, Cleo came running out and began to instruct him.
"Okay, we're done here," JJ said, looking round. "Listen, let's split up. Kie and I'll go and help John B get the lifeboat, you two head up to where Cleo is and help her and Pope get the cross. Once JB has Sarah we'll all meet in the lifeboat."
"Bingo," Elora said, doing the Pogue handshake with them before they all ran off.
"C Team?" Tyler smiled at her as they climbed back up the ladder.
Elora grinned back at him. "C Team."
๐๐๐
"
Where the fuck are they?" Elora shouted as she and Tyler ran along the side of the ship, now out on the deck and looking for where Pope and Cleo were.
"I don't know but we need to find them soon," Tyler panted as they sneaked along the side of the ship, both of their hearts beating fast and in sync.
"We- we have to get that cross," Elora said, peeking round the corner. "If we don't, we've just lost agai-"
"Well, well, well."
Elora's whole body locked up at that voice.
She could barely bring herself to turn around, let alone look at the boy.
Rafe Cameron. Stood barely three metres away.
Tyler reacted first, shoving Elora behind him and spitting out. "Get the fuck away from her."
Rafe just chuckled. "Should've known you'd be here, Ty. What is this, you protecting your girlfriend?"
"She told me what you did to her," Tyler snarled.
"Yeah," Rafe grinned, looking past him. "You fancying round two, Elle?"
Elora shouldered her way in front of Tyler, snapping. "Just get out the way, Rafe."
"I'm afraid I can't do that," Rafe chuckled, looking down and shaking his head. "First John B and then you guys, huh? Guess the Pogues are having a party on this ship."
"We're smarter than you think," Elora shot back. "Now get out the fucking way."
"Are you deaf or something? That's not happening," Rafe snapped, tossing his head behind him. "You know, I could call them right now, have you tied up until we reach land and then shipped back to Kildare."
"Do it then," Elora dared him. "What's stopping you?"
Rafe looked at her in disbelief. "You know, you really are just like your mom," he said, voice low. "She was exactly like this as well, arrogant and selfish and nothing more than a woman who opened her legs for Kooks and got a little money for i-"
SLAM.
Elora didn't even have time to process what was happening.
All she knew was that next second, Tyler was darting forward and punching Rafe straight in the face, sending him toppling backward. He charged at him, punching him again, and again.
"Don't you ever say that again!" He roared, sending Rafe's head side to side with how hard he was punching him.
Elora, meanwhile, was shaking her head, shouting. "Tyler, stop! STOP!"
They couldn't afford to be caught on this ship, and if Tyler fought Rafe then they totally would-
THUMP.
Then the horrifying truth slammed into her.
She shouldn't have been yelling for Tyler to stop at all. Because at least he was giving Rafe what he deserved.
But when Rafe got the upper hand and took control back, that's when her heart really started to shatte4.
"This is what you get, Ty!" The Cameron shouted, his mouth bleeding slightly. "Pogues always lose eventually!"
And when his fist slammed into the boys' jaw, eye, cheek, chest, stomach- Elora wanted to scream.
She did scream.
"RAFE, STOP!" She shrieked, holding onto the side of the ship for balance. "GET OFF HIM!"
Rafe paid no attention, pummelling his fist into Tyler again and again, winding him, picking him up and sending him down to the ground.
"Get the FUCK OFF HIM!"
Elora didn't know what she was doing.
All she knew was that Tyler needed her, and she couldn't let him down.
So she had kicked Rafe in the back, hard, and sent him flying off.
"Urgh!" She grunted as she sent her foot flying into his side, once, twice, three times. He grunted every time, his body curling on his side and his whole form disintegrating.
"You're gonna regret that," he muttered, managing to sit up slowly, his eyes crossing slightly.
"Maybe," Elora replied bravely, before turning and running straight back to Tyler.
He was on the ground, his head bloody and bruised, his eyes unfocused. His whole body was crumpled and shaking, and the sight of him, so weak and battered when he was usually so strong and steady, made her break.
"Tyler..." she started, tears coming to her eyes as she kneeled over him. "Tyler, can- can you hear me? H-how many fingers am I holding up? Do you know who I am?"
"Yeah... f-five..." Tyler said weakly, her five fingers floating in and out of his vision. "And... y-you're Elora... m-my girlfr..."
He didn't finish the word, but Elle knew what he was going for, and it made her heart warm for a fraction of a second as her lips twitched.
"Yeah, that's right," she nodded, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Listen, John B's coming with the lifeboat, okay? He'll get here and all we have to do is get into the water, okay?"
She said it like it was easy, but she knew it was anything but. Tyler was seriously lightheaded, told to her by the pale skin underneath the bruises, and that meant getting him into the water was going to be a problem, because he'd probably pass out if he stood up.
"NO!"
A shout from behind her got her attention and she turned to see Rafe scrambling up, seeing the cross fall into the water. Elora's eyes widened as she saw Pope, in the crane, abandoning the cross by choice to save his friends.
Rafe, however, was not giving it up. He sprinted in the direction of the cross, eyes wide and desperate. Elora turned back to Tyler, however, knowing she needed to keep him awake until the lifeboat came.
"Listen, John B's coming, okay?" She assured him, finding his hand as more tears flooded her eyes, squeezing it tightly. "Stay with me, Ty, please."
"A... always..." Tyler whispered, his voice slurring and his eyes closing slightly.
"Tyler, stay awake! You have to stay awake!" Elora begged, squeezing his hand tight. "Ty, please!"
She looked to the side and down into the water, trying to find any sign of the lifeboat. "JOHN B!" She screamed through the tears, needing him to get here. "HELP!"
She didn't know what to do. She'd never done any of this before, let alone comfort someone who loved her.
But her instincts told her to keep talking to him, so that's what she did.
"Hey, have I, uh... have I told you this story about the first time I saw you?" She asked, smiling slightly as she wiped a tear from her face, more replacing it in seconds. Nevertheless, she smiled as the memory flooded back to her. "It, um... it was the first day of school, and I was wearing this hideous plaid dress and... when I was walking towards the school, I saw you."
Her lips pressed into a smile as she looked into his eyes, which were still open. She pressed her hand upon his heart and felt the soft beat beneath her fingertips, just begging he would stay awake long enough.
"Your hair was all gelled, and you were in a little waistcoat and some shorts, and you... you looked like such a Kook," she chuckled slightly, her hand coming up to cup his bloody face. "But I was drawn to you. Even after my mom told me to stay away from you, I kept looking. I- I had no idea why, but... but now I do."
His lips moved slightly, imperceptibly, and she sobbed slightly. "You have to stay awake," she cried, looking him in his blue eyes. "Y-you have to- JOHN B!" She screamed again, looking around for the lifeboat somewhere, anywhere-
"ELORA!"
She couldn't even describe the feeling of relief that rushed through her at the sight of that lifeboat in the water below them, containing JB, Sarah, Cleo and Pope. A smile rushed to her face as she turned to Tyler. "See? I told you they'd come."
"ELORA! WHERE'S TYLER?" Pope bellowed up at her.
"H-HE'S HURT!" Elora shouted back, wiping her tears away. "HOLD ON, JUST- JUST HOLD ON!"
She kneeled down beside Tyler, voice shaking. "Listen, I- I know this is gonna hurt but we gotta get you outta here, okay? So listen, I'm just gonna lift you, and then we need to jump but I'll be here the whole time, okay?"
Tyler nodded slightly but didn't reply, however he was still awake, and that was all Elora was looking for at the moment.
"Right," she said, slinging one of his arms around her neck. "One, two, three-"
His face drained about two shades of colour when she lifted him, and she tried her hardest to ignore it as she spotted a place without a barrier they could jump off, only a few metres away.
"Come on, come on, come on-" she prayed, lifting his limp body towards the jump point. "Tyler? Tyler, you still with me?"
"Y-yeah," he choked out, and she thanked the lord he was speaking again.
"Okay, so we need to jump, alright?" Elora informed him as she got them to the edge, looking over into the water. It was at least a twenty metre drop, and Tyler would most likely pass out on impact. "B-but I'm gonna be holding you the whole time, and we're going to get in the lifeboat and it's all gonna be okay, alright?"
"A-alrigh..." he slurred, and she looked at him, securing her hold on him.
"Okay," she said, looking from the lifeboat to Tyler and then the water. "One, two, THREE!"
