― may & june 2021 exhibit.
So, these last two months haven't been very productive request-wise, but in my defense, I was working on a graphic war. (Please check out "Food Fight" if you haven't already!)
I completed seven requests in April, and I finished seven requests again throughout May and June. I didn't think May's requests were enough for a whole chapter, so here we are with two months added together!
I'd love to hear what you guys think!
I really enjoyed making these! Logo design is always very fun, and it's one of my favorite kinds of graphics to make. I had a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for the logo, and I enjoyed illustrating the BTS members. I'm pretty satisfied with how everything here turned out!
Now, I'm not entirely happy with how these turned out. While I'm very proud of them, and I'm satisfied with them, I know I could come up with a more exciting concept. Here, I went for a movie-poster-esque concept, with the empty-ish composition and soft lighting. I do wish the colors were more pink than their current peachy browns.
Also, since the four covers have relatively different themes/settings, I'd like to know which of the covers you guys like more! I'm a bit torn between "La Douleur Exquise" and "Galaxia".
Once again, I'm not very very proud with these. While I absolutely loved making these, and I remember being extremely proud of these when I finished them, I think these could be more polished and creative. Again, I truly enjoyed making these, especially since I loved the concept behind both the book cover and map. It was a very enjoyable process, and I really appreciated astrayseoul's patience and cooperation!
I'm very happy with the result of these covers! They could be fixed up a bit here and there, but I still love how these look! I especially like how "Heaven's Runaway" turned out, since the shapes of the subjects' bodies allign well with one another, and the overall lighting turned out okay! "Heartland" was a bit more experimental, so it sticks out among the three. I'd like to know which one of the three you guys like most!
This request felt a bit nostalgic to make, since I dabbled back in my older typography-illustration style. I haven't done a whole lot of typography in May and June, since I did the majority of my editing on my laptop, which doesn't have as many options typography-wise.
I like how "Amortentia" turned out a lot more than "Euphoria". I enjoy the reds and pinks, and I think BTS' ties with their matching Hogwarts house colors don't look too out of place. Though I'm happy with both covers overall!
Now, this was my biggest request from these past two months, but it was absolutely my favorite to work on! The covers did take a while, since they handled a concept that I was entirely new to, but both the covers and banners allowed me to dabble in various genres and themes! I was also able to practice my skills with lighting, colors, and portraying different kinds of stories.
I'd absolutely love to know which banners you like the most! I'm pretty proud of how "Colors" and "With a Dash of Mischief" turned out! I think the overall colors look nice in both of them.
I really enjoyed this request, since it was a pretty small request compared to the others. It concluded the two months well! I was also glad to work more on profile pictures! I was a lot more detailed on editing faces, especially in the black, white, and red profile picture.
I also really enjoyed making the character banners! I had a lot of fun editing the lighting, and I tried my best to make the banners look intense. They do look a bit too dark, but I think they still look nice overall. Let me know what you guys think!
Final Thoughts
These past two months were pretty messy-
Despite of the mess, I did end up learning quite a bit, and I experimented with a lot of different kinds of requests, graphics, and genres. Though at the same time, I feel like I didn't make much progress? I've had much more time to practice my editing skills during summer, but I feel like I've barely done anything. Maybe it's just me, I'm not sure.
Aside from that, I've kind of been thinking of making a whole new portfolio/shop book maybe? I'm not super committed to this yet, since I'm really proud of how much "Zero Oasis" has achieved these past few months (thanks to you guys!), but then again, I'm still not entirely satisfied with this book.
I'm more of a spontaneous person when it comes to creative work, so maintaining a theme in this book, with the same banners, loading gifs, and layout, is personally draining. And I don't actually dislike the idea of themes, I actually love the idea! I just can't be committed to one, single theme.
So, I decided that I'd like to make a graphic book that can present a new theme every update! Maybe there would be a sci-fi theme for one chapter, then a sweeter, cookie-cutter theme for the next! I'm sort of in love with this idea, and I like it a lot better than assigning singular concepts with their own individual books. I'd rather experiment with different themes and concepts more quickly, through a more spontaneous graphic book!
But I still don't know yet! I've already had four graphic-related books in the past, and "Zero Oasis" has barely existed for much time, so I'm not exactly sure if I should just keep updating this book until publishing a new book seems suitable. I've been feeling very conflicted about this, so your guys' thoughts on this would genuinely help me a lot!
