TWO; THE ORIGINALS

(3x15)

ANUBIS SAT WTH A CIGARETTE HANGING FROM HIS LIPS. Esther was annoyed by the smell emitting from the cigarette, she scrunched up her face at the smell. She got up from her seat and found some scented jasmine set near her. She burned the jasmine, so it would cancel out the smell. After Anubis finished, he threw the cigarette away in a small can near him.

"So, are you going to tell me why you woke me up from that, oh so wonderful sleep?" Anubis asked, looking at Esther.

Esther sighed deeply, she knew that in order for Anubis to take over her task she had to explain to him about what she had created. Esther walked over to a bookshelf that was against the wall, her fingers skimmed the book and found one from over a thousand years ago. "This is a long story, so sit tight."

"I've been asleep for over a century," Anubis reminded her, "I'm patient." Anubis crossed his legs and held his hands in front of him, he cocked his head to the side waiting for Esther to respond. Esther sat down across from Anubis-placing the book in front of him- a small part of her feared how he would react.

"A thousand years ago, my son, Henrik, was killed by the wolves in our village," She started, she held her hands in front of her on the table and looked at Anubis. The memory was still vivid, she remembered Klaus carrying her son's body in his arms, his eyes red and puffy and his scream infiltrating the air. "My husband Mikael and I decided to look for a way to protect our children from the wolves. We asked our witch if she could perform a spell to make them immortal but she refused, so, I took matters into my own hands. I created a spell for my children to become immortal, we used the blood of a girl in the village who Niklaus and Elijah fancied. That night we poured her blood in their drinks and when they fell asleep...Mikael killed them and when they awoke, they were vampires."

Esther paid attention to Anubis' reaction, his eyes brows were furrowed and his jaw was clenched, "Go on." He ordered, Esther simply sighed.

"Ever since they were protected from the wolves but with every power there was a weakness. The thing that surprised most was the bloodlust, it was like a drug, it was something they craved and innocent lives paid for it. Then, they were able to turn others into vampires but they didn't have the same abilities. There are hundreds of thousands of vampires roaming the Earth and thousands of lives had paid for it. I want you to kill my children and with that, the world will rid of all vampires." Esther spoke slowly and firm-making it clear to Anubis that what she wanted-It was her one wish in the world. If she could go back and time, she would and she would've listened to Ayana.

Anubis licked his lips slowly and took a deep breath. After listening to Esther, he was angry but he didn't show it. How could she create such monsters? While Anubis was asleep he was surprised about all the people that had died, after all, he was the god of death.

"Do you know how many dead people I had to lead into the underworld?" Anubis-who had been looking at the shelf-faced Esther, his expression was blanked and his words came out like poison. Esther held her head up high despite the tone of his voice.

"I can only imagine and that is why I need your help to the rid the world of them." Esther kept her voice calm, she didn't want to anger Anubis anymore than she had.

   "I'll do it."

Esther's lip curled into a smile of relief, "Now, meet me in an old witch house in a few hours," She started, "There will be other so I suggest working on your social skills."

Anubis walked through the door of the Mystic Grill, no one paying attention to him. Ever since the ball, Anubis had been fond of suits, he liked the way they felt and how he looked in them. He fixed his tie on his way to the bar. He sat on an empty bar stool and the bartender made his ways towards him. Anubis looked up at the bartender and remembered him vividly from last night, the messy blond hair and the ocean blue eyes.

The bartender had a cast around his wrist and Anubis furrowed his brows, "So, what happened to your wrist?"

The bartender sighed and looked at his fractured wrist, "Uh...football." The bartender pursed his lips. "Uh, what can I get you?"

"Scotch," Anubis answered in a suspicious tone, the bartender nodded his head and went to bring Anubis the beverage. Anubis looked around, towards the end of the bar were two of the Original brothers, Anubis quickly looked away and a man sat next, sighing deeply. The man had dirty blond hair and it was almost brown, he had dark-brown eyes and a stubble on his face.

"So, what's with the suit?" The man leaned in towards the bar and looked at Anubis. Anubis was silent for a second before answering, unaware that the man was talking to him.

"Uh...work." Anubis lied, the bartender came over a gave Anubis the scotch.

"Matt, bring me some bourbon." The man told the bartender. Anubis brought the glass to his lips and took a sip. "Well, a long day calls for a drink."

Anubis brought the glass to the table and moved it back and forth with his hands, "I'm Alaric by the way." The man introduced himself, Anubis looked at the man and the bartender, Matt, brought him the glass of bourbon.

   "Anubis."

"Like the Egyptian god of death?" Alaric asked furrowing his brows, "I'm sorry, I'm a high school history teacher."

"It's fine and yeah, like the god of death," Anubis replied awkwardly. Anubis looked at his watch, checking for the time and realized that it was time, he had to go help, Esther. Anubis got up quickly. "Well, it was nice meeting you but I have plans."

"Well, it was nice meeting you, Anubis," Alaric said as Anubis ran out of the bar.

***

Anubis ran up to the old witch and found a pentagram made of salt on the ground. When Anubis reached Esther, she was surrounded by three other people. One of them was her son, he had a strong jawline and light brown hair. The other was a girl, she had ebony hair and emerald green eyes. The other was what Anubis assumed to be her mother, they had a strong resemblance to each other.

"You're late." Esther spat with her arms crossed.

"Do you want my help or not?" Anubis spat back as he placed his hands in his pockets.

"Who's this?" The girl asked in distaste.

Esther walked over to Anubis and placed a hand on his shoulder, "This is Anubis, the god of death and he is going to help us."

"The god of death!" The two women asked in unison.

"He will continue the plan if I fail." Esther continued, "That is my son, Finn, that young witch is Bonnie and that is her mother, Abby." Esther introduced Anubis to each and one of them. The young witch, Bonnie gave Anubis a dirty look, his presence made her uncomfortable.

"You don't have to worry about me," Anubis started, "After this is done, I will gladly go to sleep."

"Just don't pull any tricks," Bonnie warned, Anubis smirked at the witch. She wasn't threatening, although she was a little intimidating Anubis wasn't scared of her. He had seen pretty much everything before he was put into a deep sleep.

"They call me the god of death and people should fear. So, I'm not afraid of some witch with parlor tricks." Anubis spat, Bonnie furrowed her brows and walked up to Anubis and stood face to face with him staring into his azure eyes. She curled her fingers into fists and clench her jaw, although she was just a witch, she was still powerful.

"I may seem like a witch with parlor tricks but I'm not afraid to back out of fight." She stared into Anubis' eyes with every word gracefully escaping her mouth.

"Bonnie, it's not worth it." Abby walked up to her daughter and placed a hand on her shoulder, Bonnie turned around towards her mother and stood next to her. Anubis had to admit, he did admire the witch's bravery.

Esther's son, Finn, was lighting torches around the pentagram on the ground. Esther made her way towards the outskirt of the pentagram. "The pentagram represents our connection to magic. The salt is a symbol of the Earth."

The young witch spoke up, "The torches?"

"Five torches. One for each of my children."

"What's the spell you're doing?" The young witch asked as she folded her arms across her chest.

"As the witch who cast the spell that made them vampires, I can also reverse it. When they become human again, they can be killed. As they are linked as one, my brave Finn will be the sacrifice. With his death, will come theirs." Esther explained, the spell sounded simple but Anubis knew something would go wrong. It always does, he's lived since the creation of the Earth and he knew how things went.

Abby turned her head towards Finn and raised an eyebrow, " And you're just willing to die?"

"My mother has released me from an eternity of shame. It's not a sacrifice, it's a gift."

Before Esther could continue talking, Finn's knees buckled underneath him and he collapsed. The four of them rushed over to him, his skin was turning gray and veins started appearing all over his body, taking over. "Something's wrong," Esther said quickly, Anubis placed a hand on Finn's shoulder, he was unconscious. Esther slapped her son's face but she got no response.

Suddenly, Anubis felt a rush, he took in a deep breath and his eyes glowed gold before turning back to their Azure form. The witches looked at him confused, Anubis looked up and saw Finn standing behind Esther, his hands behind his back. Anubis got up slowly and looked down and saw Finn's corpse on the ground. He walked over to Finn's ghost and started at Finn, his eyes were dark and gloomy and his lips didn't curve into a smile.

"Finish the job, Anubis." Finn reached out his hand to the god and with a simple touch, Finn's ghost started disappearing, within a couple seconds, he was gone. The witches had watched in awe, they couldn't see Finn only Anubis could.

"What did he say?" Esther asked frantically.

"They're coming," Anubis answered still looking at the spot where Finn's ghost was.

"No, it's too soon, the moon is not high enough. Go! Quickly!" Esther looked around for any figures, "Anubis, they can't see you, you have to go!"

"What about you?" He asked worriedly.

"I've died more than once, and if I die once again. I will come back. Now go!" She ordered. Bonnie and Abby had run into the witch house to hide from Esther's sons, Anubis followed them, worried for Esther.

The three walked inside of the witch house looking at their surroundings. The house was old and the floorboards had popped out, the wallpaper was peeling and it was dark and gloomy inside. The place had no smell, but it gave Anubis chills as his eyes shifted from place to place.

"This place has some serious vibe in it," Abby commented in awe as she looked around.

"The witch spirits will protect us from the Originals, but we should get into the basement," Bonnie explained as they walked around.

   "I'm not a witch."

"That's because you're the god of death and you can protect yourself." Bonnie turned towards Anubis looking at him, unaware of Abby.

"You know, I actually did like the witches once. Until they put me to sleep." He started, "Then again, I wasn't there for the whole Kardashian thing, so I'm good."

Bonnie rolled her eyes and looked around, the two had been walking towards the basement. Once they reached the old basement, Bonnie looked around for Abby, but she wasn't there. Bonnie turned her body frantically.

"Abby!" She called out, her eyes were wide with fear. Anubis furrowed his brows and looked at the other witch but alas she wasn't there. Anubis turned to see a young man in front of the two of them. The man had dirty blonde hair and emerald green eyes. His eyes were full of hatred and he had a smirk plastered on his face.

"Stefan? What's going on?" Bonnie asked worriedly, her eyes wide with fear.

"They took Elena. They're going to kill her unless we stop Esther." The man explained, his eyes shifted to Anubis and he furrowed his brows.

"Stefan, I- I can't stop her. She's channeling us!" Bonnie exclaimed.

"Bonnie, if you can't stop her. I have to find another way." Stefan explained worriedly. Anubis was confused about the whole situation, who was Stefan and what was he trying to do? After a couple seconds of silence, the witch looked at the man with fear written all over her eyes.

"No...Stefan, no." The witch ran to the exit of the basement, but the man vamped in front of her-blocking her way out-Anubis realized the man was a vampire. Anubis took a step back from the two, "What are you gonna do? Even if you kill us, Esther is channeling every witch in our ancestry, living and dead." Bonnie exclaimed.

"Esther's drawing from the witches. The only way to cut her off is if one of you is no longer a witch." Stefan explained that's when it hit Anubis. If they turned one of the witches into a vampire, they would no longer be a witch, they'd be a vampire. Anubis' eyes widened in shock, they were going to turn her mother.

Anubis realized he was stronger than the vampire in front of him and that he could run but before he could, he saw the figure of the witch's mother. She walked up to Anubis and her eyes were glassy. Abby looked around and saw her daughter and then looked at Anubis.

"You'll come back," Anubis said softly.

"I know," Abby replied, her voice cracking, she held a hand up to her mouth, "But as a monster." She placed her hand on Anubis and her form vanished like confetti disappearing into the wind.

***

Abby was laid on top of a bed, she was unconscious and the three girls were waiting for her to wake up any moment. Bonnie sat next to her mother, her fingers intertwined with her mother. Tears danced down her cheeks and her eyes were red and puffy. Caroline stood at the door with Elena as the two watched Bonnie.

"She doesn't want to see you," Caroline spoke softly.

"Please, just let me talk to her," Elena begged.

"Abby's in transition. It's going to be really hard over the next few days and if Bonnie needs some time to deal then I think you should give it to her." Caroline suggested, her eyes shifted from Bonnie to Elena every couple seconds.

"She's always been there for me, Caroline. Please. Let me just be there for her too."

"I'm sorry, Elena. I know that you want to help, but put yourself in her shoes. Everything that happened tonight was to save you and that's okay because she loves you. So much. But somehow she's always the one who gets hurt." Elena understood where Caroline was coming from, ever since the Salvatore's came to Mystic Falls, Elena had been somewhat safe but her friends and family always paid the price, she couldn't help but feel guilty.

A knot formed in her throat and her eyes became glassy, "You know, you're right. I just...just tell her that I love her, okay?" Caroline nodded and gave her a small smile. Elena walked away turning her back towards Caroline.

Bonnie stood in the hallway, her back against the wall. Tears were running down her cheeks and her body slowly went to the ground. Bonnie brought her knees up to her face and hugged them. She heard footsteps coming her way but she didn't pay any attention, she closed her eyes for a brief second, taking in everything that had happened.

"Now, what's a pretty girl like you crying about?" Bonnie instantly perked her head up and stood up, in front of her was Anubis. Her chest was heaving and she wiped the salty tears from her face.

"You know what happened," Bonnie said, her eyebrows furrowing.

"I'm well aware," Anubis spoke, "That's why I need your help."

   "With what?"

"I'm going to kill The Originals and I need a witch on my side," Anubis explained.

"Why me?" She asked, folding her arms across her chest.

"Well, you did say you were powerful, after all." Anubis started, "Or am I being mistaken. Plus, the Originals already claimed too many lives."

"Fine. I'll help you but my friends are off limits."

"You got yourself a deal." Anubis stuck out his hand to shake Bonnie's, Bonnie hesitated before shaking it. Anubis smirked and turned his back, he went to open the door and he looked back at the witch, "Your mother will make up soon." He opened the door and closed it, leaving the witch behind.

Now that he had a witch on his side, the Originals were one step closer to being six feet under.
