(4.01) 

   ANUBIS THOUGHT HE WOULD NEVER COME TO TERMS WITH WHO HE WAS. He didn't want to be the type of person to bring misery to people. At any given moment, he could take a human life and hide it under a car accident or any other way. While he was in his sleep, he thought no more harm would come from him but he was wrong. Mankind was corrupt, they hurt their own and the ones they loved. 

   Anubis saw those people enter the underworld, he saw all sorts of people. Good, evil, young, or old. He even saw supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves, and witches. He saw everything and he experienced everything, even heartbreak and what he assumed to be death. 

   All he saw was darkness. He knew that Elena and Alaric died but they wouldn't be going to the underworld. Alaric was going somewhere else since he died as a vampire, he took one glance of Alaric before he disappeared. Anubis saw everything shift, all at once. He no longer saw darkness but he saw himself in Mystic Falls. He sat on a bench with a black suit on, when he looked up at the sky, it was clear. 

The shone brightly on him and then he felt someone next to him. He prayed for it to be someone familiar, that he knew, like Bonnie, but it wasn't. It was Elena Gilbert. She was wearing the same clothes she had died in except she wasn't wet. Elena sat on the opposite end of the bench and the two locked eyes. 

"Anubis?" she whispered softly, "What's going on?" 

Anubis sighed, "Elena, you're dead. Not in a metaphorical way but literally dead." 

Elena felt a knot tying up in her throat, "Oh my god," she croaked, "I-is that why we're both here, you're going to take me to the underworld or where ever it is that I'm going?" 

Anubis furrowed his brows, "I don't think so," he started, "There's something going on. The ring the witches created for me was tied to the Petrov doppelganger line. The ring loses its power when the last generation dies out. The ring was losing power because it was predicting your death." 

"B-but, there's something wrong. I can feel it," she started, "I don't think I'm dead." 

Anubis furrowed his brows, "Why not?" 

Elena shook her head, "I think its just a gut feeling, I don't think things would end this way. Plus, you're here and the ring is tied to you if I die that means something happens to you. Something is wrong." 

Anubis let out a sigh, "There is something odd." 

Elena pouted her lips, "What is it?" 

Anubis sighed, "This place that we're in right now, it's only temporary. When I wake up, something's going to be different." 

"Like what?" Elena asked desperately. 

"Elena," Anubis started, "I don't think you're dead." 

Elena rolled her eyes, "Well, I was dying." 

Anubis shook his head, "If you were dead dead, we wouldn't be here." 

Elena turned her head in confusion, "The only way that's possible is if..." she trailed off and her eyes widened when the realization hit her, "That would mean I have vampire blood in my system." 

Anubis nodded, "You're going back, Elena," he started, "Aren't you happy?" 

Elena's chest started rising and her eyes became glassy, "I don't want to be a vampire, Anubis. I-I don't. It's o-overwhelming. I-I can't do this." 

Anubis' face softened, "Elena," he started, "Don't cry. You're going to come back to people who love you and would sacrifice everything for you. This is a second chance at life, after everything that has happened, you're not going to die because of some drowning. If you're going to die it's going to be because of some badass reason." 

Elena smiled as she used her thumb to wipe the tears off her face, "Thanks, Anubis," she wiped her hands on her clothes, "What's going to happen to you when you come back?" 

Anubis shrugged, "I don't know, but I have a feeling I'm not going to be the same person." 

Elena held her hands in front of her, "You're going to turn into a jackal?" she asked worriedly. 

Anubis nodded, "Yeah," he answered, "The thing is it's all complicated. The ring would die with the last generation of the Petrov bloodline which would be you. The ring is still powerful though, which means you're not going to be the last of doppelgangers. The ring was created as a balance, you die, I sleep or whatever the hell it is. The thing is you're both when you go back, and I don't know in what state I'll be." 

"The ring," Elena started, "You said it could bring people back from the dead. Couldn't you do that to me?" 

Anubis shook his head, "No, the ring would require me to turn human so that the magic can bring back a human. It wouldn't work on you since you're probably a vampire. The ring would most likely leave me in a state or bring me back as a jackal." 

Elena sighed in defeat, "I want to stay here," she said softly, "I-It's so peaceful." 

"Elena," Anubis started, "You have to go back." Anubis stood up from his seat and Elena stood up slowly. 

"I guess I'm going to have to do this?" She asked, "Thank you, Anubis. If you're not in your right state when you come back, I'll help Bonnie bring you back." 

Anubis smiled, "Don't worry about me, Elena." Elena walked over to Anubis and gave him a small hug and Anubis returned it as well. With that, Elena had disappeared, she was nowhere to be seen. Anubis stood by himself with no one nearby. He was alone but he was used to it. 

Bonnie was still in the same spot that she was. Anubis was unconscious and Bonnie felt like giving up. His hands were limp and his eyes were shut closed. She couldn't think of a spell to help him wake up. He was too powerful and she was certain it wasn't something simple. Bonnie quickly picked up his hand and saw the ruby red ring on his finger, the ring was dull with color which looked unusual. The color was starting to come back but he wasn't changing. 

"Miss Bennett," Bonnie picked up her head to see a woman standing in a long black trenchcoat and a bag in her hand, "I suggest you step away." 

Bonnie furrowed her brows as she stood up from Anubis' side, the woman had jet-black curls and skin that resembled Anubis', "Like hell, I'm leaving him," she started, "Who the hell are you and why do you know my name?" 

The woman sighed, "Anubis was right, you are feisty," she commented, "My name is Isis. I assume you've heard of me from books." 

Bonnie furrowed her brows in confusion, "I-Isis?" 

Isis nodded, "That is me," she answered, "Now, I need you to step away from Anubis." 

"Why?" Bonnie asked. 

Isis sighed, "Because, in order for him to come back, I need to use some herbs and magic." 

"You're a witch?" she asked. 

Isis laughed, "Sweetheart, I'm the goddess of magic and life. All of these spells, I practically made them all." 

Bonnie folded her arms across her chest, "So, why didn't you stop the witches from putting Anubis to sleep?" 

"Anubis was in a rabid state, he could kill anything in his path. He was far too dangerous to stop, the witches knew what they were doing," she answered, "Now, bring him inside. We have work to do." The two dragged Anubis' body inside the house and placed him on one of the beds. Things were going to be different.

i hoped you all enjoyed this chapter! things are going to pick up now. Bonnie and Anubis will start having cute moments in such and Isis is going to be badass and I hope that you'll enjoy her character.
