SEVENTEEN; DEATH BECAME HIM

(4.08)

OVER ONE THOUSAND YEARS AGO IN ANCIENT EGYPT, LIFE HAD SEEMED PERFECT. The gods and goddesses were worshipped by the people, everyone worked to support their families, the pyramids were being built. Everything seemed to fit all together, the witches were in harmony and they didn't see any threats at all.Β

Also living in Egypt was a little boy with azureΒ blue eyes. The village gave the boy weird looks, no one had that eye color in Egypt. Everyone chose to ignore him as he worked, they didn't pay much attention to him. The little boy would run around and play with the others but he always stood out due to his eye color. Yet, there was something that made him stand out more.Β

The people in the village found it odd when they found the boy in the cemetery. They would often find him there talking to himself. They found it even weirder when they'd see him playing with jackals. What threw them off was whenever someone had died, the little boy knew exactly who they were, he could have been miles away but he knew who they were, even if he had never spoken a word to them before.Β

Many of the people in the village spectated as to why he was the way he was. Many had different theories but the witches had one that was mostly correct. The witches theorized that the little boy was the embodiment of the god of death, Anubis. Many feared that the by was the god of death, but they didn't know how to prove it.Β

One day, the boy had found an odd mark on his abdomen. When he showed the witches, they gasped. The mark was the eye of Anubis, the witches were surely right that the boy was the embodiment. Then, one day, a goddess had appeared in Egypt. Everyone knew who she was and they praised her, for it was Isis, the goddess of magic.Β

The goddess had found the little boy in the cemetery playing with a jackal, Isis picked up her head and knelt down to meet the little boy's height, "They say that you can talk to the dead," the little boy looked at her with questionable eyes.Β

He nodded his eyes, "I can, people in the village fear me. They think that I'm different,"Β

Isis tilted her head to the side to look at the little boy, "You are but being different is good, they also say that you can see the dead,"Β

The boy nodded his head, "I can when they die, but it's only those that are near me, at night I can see them in my dream but I choose to ignore it. It's hard sometimes,"Β

Isis nodded her head and stuck out her hand for the boy to grab, "Well, it's nice to finally meet you Anubis," the little boy smiled at goddess finally finding someone who could understand him.Β

As Anubis grew he became more in touch with his powers. He became more aware and noticed more, the people in the villageΒ soon praised him, since he was the god of death. Yet, many feared him, death had followed him everywhere and few feared that he would signal their deaths.Β

Yet, there was one girl who had grown interested in the young god. Her name was Berenike, she had grown fond to Anubis after a while. Anubis often found himself with the girl, the two would walk around, talk, and do many things together and Anubis found himself falling for Berenike. Yet, her heart yearned for another and didn't know how powerful Anubis was.Β

Anubis had seen Berenike with another which made his heart shatter ultimately. He thought he had found solace, someone who could live him for who he was but it was all a lie, a facade. When Anubis became the jackal, everyone had feared him. All of a sudden their expectations were true and many stayed inside of fear of being dead.Β

Anubis was ruthless and uncontrollable. He shed innocent blood without even knowing it. As a jackal, all of his emotions towards other became more powerful. His anger for Berenike became more prominent and it all washed away after he had bitten her and his venom had infiltrated her blood, she died within seconds.Β

The witches were somewhat fearless, they knew they couldn't let him continue but they weren't powerful enough to create a spell to calm him down. All of the other ways to make him return were useless at that point. That's when Isis had come to interfere, the goddess was wary of what was going on and was determined on finding a different way. It was pointless.Β

There was no other method except for one and Isis had to help him no matter what. That was when the dagger was formed and all the witches were getting ready to put Anubis under a deep sleep. It had taken work but eventually, they had put Anubis under the spell. They had hidden him in a pharaoh's coffin and hidden him in one of the pyramids.Β

Many still prayed and hoped that when they met their end, Anubis would guide them to peace. Many thought that his sleep was peaceful and that he wasn't suffering but they were wrong. Anubis had seen everyone who had died, he had seen their deaths whenever they had touched him. He had never seen the witches but had seen the humans that had met their fate every day. Their faces haunted his dreams, he had kept it a secret for a long time. He hated pity more than anything in the world, and he didn't want that look.Β

Anubis body was soon moved, many had tried to open the coffin but had failed until Esther Mikaelson had come along with rumors about whom was in it. When Anubis had woken up in Mystic Falls, he had found the small town quite boring. He hated the everyday lives, he hated how everything seemed so normal despite the things the small town had hidden.Β

That was until he met Bonnie Bennett. The witch had made Anubis think about things that he normally wouldn't. She was tough and determined and strong, no matter how many things the world had put her through, she remained with the same values. She cared for others more than she did for herself which was her fatal flaw.Β

But Anubis couldn't love her, he just couldn't. He could never trust someone with his heart after what Berenike had done and when Isis used the dagger to put him to sleep. His heart was surrounded by four walls and he couldn't let anyone break them down. But day by day when he was with the witch he had called a friend, he found those walls slowly breaking down.Β

Despite everything, he couldn't let anything happen and he didn't want to put her through the pain. So, in the end, death would be his only friend. The only thing he had to himself, because no one could ever possibly love a beast.Β

author's note:Β
