— she grew up in a divided home. her father was an alcoholic who under appreciated her mother's work. her mother was a lawyer, which was impressive in young alaska's eyes. her father didn't ever get abusive, he was just absent and he didn't help at all. it was almost as if he wasn't there, just her, her mother and her older brother, jeremiah.

alaska and jeremiah didn't have the best relationship growing up. jeremiah was popular, she was not. they had varying interests that caused their relationship to constantly cause conflict. it wasn't until a bad car accident that killed their mother they were brought closer.

alaska didn't take her mother's death very well at all. she fell into a depression, and her father being absent didn't help. in fact, he got worse after kamala's death. he verbally abused his children, but it didn't last long before both alaska and jeremiah were out of the house.

alaska, by the time she was 20, was involved heavily with her college town's law enforcement. she interned there, worked as a receptionist; she did anything she could to gain experience. she was finally accepted to the fbi academy the same year she graduated college.

she made it through the academy, mostly. she tore her acl performing one of the physical exams, causing a huge setback. while she was healing, she performed other exams. she came an expert on weaponry, perfecting the use of a sniper rifle. so much so, she was trained with SWAT to become one of them. it was there she met aaron hotchner.

she left SWAT when she was 30 for the fbi, specifically the behavioral analysis unit.
