"gosh mi, you really suck at volleyball." seyeon laughed as miyong lamely attempted hitting the ball over the net and across the gym — failing miserably doing so.

the two girls were currently in the middle of their physical education class, which seyeon adored but miyong hated — and with a passion.

physical education was the only subject at seoul high that split guys and girls apart into different groups, which miyong was very thankful for as she didn't want anymore people seeing her dreadful athletic skills.

miyong rolled her eyes and pouted playfully. "sorry yeon," she said looking at the other girl, "not everyone can be talented at athletics like you."

seyeon laughed, "ah you know i love it when you complement me," she sighed jokingly, batting her eyelashes at her smiling friend, "let the professional show you how it's done."

she tossed her neatly tied-up hair over her shoulder and prepared herself to hit the ball.

throwing the volleyball up to a perfect height, seyeon swiftly jumped up and slammed the ball with the heel of her palm. the ball smoothly sailed over the net to the other side of the gym, landing right in the center of the court with a spin.

she grinned in triumph and turned back to a bitter miyong.

"go away seyeon stop being such a show-off." miyong grumbled pushing her friend ever so slightly. seyeon held back a smile as her dramatic friend continued, "ugh, we get it you're amazing at sports — while me on the other hand, i'm a disaster." she let out a dramatic sigh, leaning backwards pretending to faint, "oh to be the kim seyeon..."

"shut up idiot, i should be saying 'oh to be the park miyong' instead. imagine being artistic and actually good at drawing? — uhm have you seen my stick figures? also imagine being the lead in the past three school musicals, you were the best alice in last year's 'alice in wonderland' production..." seyeon rambled on.

it was a habit of seyeon's to ramble a lot, and being a best friend of hers, miyong was quite used to it. "...oh about that, didn't the drama department just release news of this year's musical this morning?"

"they did?! no i haven't actually... did they say which musical it is this year?" miyong excitedly questioned.

seyeon nodded, "yup... drum roll please, dearest miyong..." miyong drummed the air dramatically as she continued, "...or should i say future princess ariel?"

"the little mermaid? yes! i love disney." miyong cheered and hugged seyeon out of enthusiasm. "but hey! i still have to audition first, i'm not guaranteed the lead just because i got it last year..."

"and the year before that... and the year before that... oh shush, we all know ms. shon loves you. you'll get the lead for sure." seyeon reassured her.

ms. shon was the young, ditzy, yet creative drama teacher and director at seoul high. she always had new ideas up her sleeve and never failed to cheer others up with her positive aura. she was someone miyong looked up to a lot and wanted to be like... minus the slightly ditzy part, which meant sometimes her ideas could be a little crazy.

"hey girls, gather round!" a voice which belonged to their coach seulgi suddenly yelled, catching the group of girl's attention.

miyong and seyeon dropped their volleyballs and headed over to where the coach stood.

"i see you've all been working well in your volleyball skills, girls. especially seyeon and hyejin, you two have been doing exceptionally excellent." she smiled at the two young women, "now how about we switch it up and play a game of dodgeball instead?"

"thank you ms. kang, you're so kind." miyong quickly glanced over at the pretty girl who was showing off her pearly-whites in a gentle smile of pride. there was no doubt that hyejin was also excellent at sports... like she was at everything else. she had a ton of stamina from her cheer training which meant she was quite fit and overall well balanced. it had always been seyeon and hyejin fighting for the top spot in the class, yet hyejin always seemed to pull some trick out of her sleeve to come out on top.

'damn, i forgot she was in this class for a second...' miyong huffed, thinking to herself. she had done her very best to avoid hyejin after their encounter not long ago, which was considerably easy when this was the only class they had together.

the group of girls nodded and began to set up for the game, placing a line of dodgeballs at the center of the gym.

"now girls, this is a free-for-all game, alright? if you get hit you are automatically eliminated and you'll come sit on the side here. remember to be safe and play fairly, okay? no teaming up." coach seulgi reminded, looking around at the group of girls who nodded in return. "okay then... ready? on your mark... get set... go!"

the group of girls rushed to garner themselves a dodgeball, while others had already began throwing them. a bunch of teenage girls throwing dodgeballs at each other was a much scarier sight than some would assume.

the game progressed quickly as a few minutes later only a few girls remained in the game. unfortunately this included miyong, hyejin and her carbon copies — soomin, kyongja, and jiyoon.

miyong stood partially to the side hoping someone would hit her quickly so she wouldn't have to participate anymore, but to her dismay she had someone ended up being one of the last ones standing.

she watched as the cheerleaders threw dodgeballs around aimlessly, clearly uninterested in the game. she glanced over at hyejin, and watched as her eyes scanned over the gym until they fell on miyong's gaze. a smirk slid onto her face and she gave her fellow cheerleaders a signal that miyong couldn't understand.

before she knew it, miyong had been helplessly cornered, with multiple dodgeballs flying straight towards her face.

keep in mind these weren't soft, light, foam dodgeballs, like the ones used in primary school.

the last thing miyong remembered was the smirk on hyejin's face, and the high-pitched sound of seyeon's scream echoing throughout the gym, before it all went dark.
