REAL LIFE

LUNA WAS IN the midst of making her bed when she heard the sound of glass tapping.

She had been awake for a little bit and had finally gotten the willpower to get out of bed. After opening up her windows to let in some light, she had moved onto making her bed. Luna glanced up from placing her pillows over her comforter to see Noah across the way, standing right by his window. Once their eyes locked, he smiled brightly and waved at her. Luna grinned and waved back before grabbing her pen and paper on her bedside table, noticing Noah had his.

Noah wrote for a moment before holding up his paper. Nice shirt.

Luna looked down for a moment — it was famous Ohio State Buckeyes long-sleeve — before writing her answer. Thanks. It's comfy. Good luck getting it back.

Looks better on you anyways. Noah then wrote for another moment before holding up a new message. I've been waiting for you to get up for ages.

She let out a small laugh. You know you could've texted me asking if I was awake, right? There's this thing called technology.

Noah rolled his eyes at her. This is way more fun. He then hesitated for a moment, and even through the glass and from some distance, she could see the slight nervousness on his face. I believe I promised you something for when I came back from North Carolina.

Luna felt her cheeks get warm — she, of course, knew what he was alluding to, but she wanted to actually hear it . . . or see it written, in this case. And what would that be?

Noah flipped to a new page and wrote four letters before holding it up. DATE?

Her smile widened, her heart racing fast against her chest. I would be honored to ♡ When?

He seemed to lose some of the tension in his shoulders, and his expression automatically got happier. You free today? I have an idea.

I'm all yours, Luna replied, both in the sense of the date itself and actually dating him.

I'll pick you up in 30.

Luna nodded enthusiastically before turning around. She, very ridiculously, squealed to herself. But who could blame her, really? It her first real, real date, with someone she liked so much she thought she would combust. Luna placed her pen and paper down before rushing over to her closet. What could she wear? Noah didn't actually tell her what they were doing, but knowing him, it was probably something casual.

Mary Jane knocked on her door before peeking her head in, also still in her pajamas. "Did you hurt yourself? I heard a noise."

She looked over and shook her head. "Nope. Just excited." Luna then started to rummage through her closet again. "Date day."

Mary Jane gasped. "Date day? It's finally here? It's finally happening?"

Luna laughed a little. "You sound excited."

"Because I fucking am." Mary Jane stepped into her room fully and joined Luna by her closet. "I've been waiting for this moment forever."

They picked out an outfit together before Luna went over to their bathroom. She brushed her teeth quickly before changing into her outfit, which was a white tank top that had two strings above the scoop neck to tie into a bow, a thick black cardigan, a pair of jeans, and black Converse. Luna then brushed out her hair and straightened it. Once she was finished, she went back into her room and applied some mascara, blush, and lip gloss — nothing too crazy. She had just closed the tube to her lip gloss when a knock was heard at the door downstairs. Luna immediately straightened up — oh God, this was it.

"Oh, Luna," Mary Jane practically sang, her voice traveling up the stairs.

Luna stood up from her vanity and packed her phone, wallet, and lip gloss in a small bag. She slung it over her shoulder as she descended down the stairs. Mary Jane was smirking slightly to herself as she leaned against the counter, her arms crossed as she sipped on coffee through her mug.

She slowed to a stop, her eyebrows knitting. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You're nervous," Mary Jane answered.

"Nervous? No, I'm not nervous." Luna then paused for a second, her hand gripping the strap of her bag. "I'm actually incredibly nervous. Holy fuck, I'm going to die. He's going to be the absolute death of me."

"I knew it." Mary Jane fake-sniffled. "I'm like a proud mom."

Luna shook her head. "Whatever, it's fine." She then started to walk towards the door. "I can do this, I can do this, I can do this."

She let out another deep breath before opening the door. Noah was standing there, his hands in his pockets. His long hair was slicked back into a backwards hat — his usual whenever his hair was making him mad. Something so normal, yet always made Luna's stomach flutter with butterflies.

"Hi," Luna breathed out.

"Hey," Noah responded. He then leaned down and kissed her for a moment — okay, she still had to get used to that was a normal thing now. Noah then stood back up straight, extending his hand out to her. "Ready to go?"

Luna smiled and took his hand. "Ready."

Mary Jane pointed to him. "Have her back by midnight."

Noah looked confused. "It's eleven in the morning."

"I'm not really seeing your point."

"You know what? Fair enough." He saluted her. "Back by midnight."

Mary Jane grinned. "Have fun, you two."

Luna allowed Noah to lead her out of her house and towards Karl's car, which he was borrowing, before squeezing his hand. "So . . . where are we going?"

"It's a surprise," Noah revealed. "But it's fun, promise."

"Yeah, no, I trust you." Luna nodded once to him when he opened the passenger side door for her. "Thanks."

He planted another kiss to her head before letting go of her hand. "Of course."

Luna got into the passenger seat while Noah rounded around the car to get in the drivers seat. Once they buckled their seatbelts, Noah turned on the car and started to reverse out of the spot. Once he was driving comfortably down the street, he reached over his right hand and grabbed Luna's hand again. Luna smiled slightly to herself and interlocked their fingers, loving the way he always managed to make her skin ignite with just one single touch.

"You can play music if you want," Noah said. "My phone's connected."

Luna took his phone and opened it, immediately going to his Spotify. She typed in the search bar for a moment, adding a bunch of different songs to the queue. The first one being Mine, which was probably her favorite song on Speak Now. Instantly, the whole car filled with the song, making Luna smile. She always loved this song — it made her really happy, and she always dreamed of a love like it ever since she was little.

"You were in college working part time waiting tables, left a small town, never looked back," Luna sang. "I was a flight risk with a fear of falling, wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts." She then felt a burning gaze on the side of her face, and she looked, only to laugh slightly nervous as Noah stared at her. "What?"

Noah shrugged, looking back at the road. "I've heard you sing so many times, but you never fail to impress me." He then winked at her quickly. "Still waiting on The blue, by the way."

Her cheeks turned a light shade of red. "When it's finished, you'll be the first one to hear it."

"Do you remember, we were sitting there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time. You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter, you are the best thing that's ever been mine . . ."

The car ride was silent, as if things were ever silent between Luna and Noah. They talked on their way, or if a particularly good song came on, the two would sing together — except Noah would sing horribly off-key, making Luna laugh uncontrollably. After about maybe thirty minutes of driving, Noah finally pulled into a parking lot. Luna glanced around, only to see they were at an aquarium. Out of all the places Luna thought Noah would take her, she somehow didn't think of this one

Luna raised her eyebrows. "An aquarium?"

"Hey," Noah said, pouting a little. "Aquariums are cool."

"No, I definitely agree. Aquariums are awesome." She then looked at him, squinting a little. "But are you sure you didn't just bring me here to look at sharks?"

Noah sighed. "Well, it was actually to look at you in front of the sharks, which would be my two favorite things in one room."

Luna rolled her eyes, her face feeling warm. "Oh, please."

Noah smirked and leaned across the center console, planting a kiss on her cheek. "It's true, and you know it."

Within lightning speed, Noah unbuckled his seatbelt, got out of the car, and went around, opening Luna's car door for her. Luna stepped out of the car, and once Noah locked it, he took her hand for the third time (wasn't it strange how it was so natural now and felt so right?.) Together, the two of them walked up to the aquarium. Once they got insane, Luna looked around, her eyes wide and bright at the tanks full of sea creatures. It felt so peaceful in here, especially with the blue light from the water shining throughout the room.

"Have you never been to an aquarium?" Noah asked.

"I have, they just never fail to amaze me," Luna voiced. "Which way, handsome?"

"Oh, so you think I'm handsome?"

Luna didn't miss a beat, her response basically on autopilot. "You're handsome and you know it." She then spotted a tank and gasped. "Jellyfish!"

Noah chuckled, allowing her to pull him along. "How much you wanna bet there's one named Jefferey?"

"No, silly, Jefferey the jelly can't be in this tank because he's you." Luna stared up at the creatures in wonder, watching as they moved up and down. "They're so pretty."

He stared down at her. "You're so pretty."

Luna looked up at him, a shy smile on her lips. She then reached up her free hand and hooked a figure on the chain he always wore around his neck. Luna tugged him down, instantly planting her lips onto his. Noah immediately melted into her, as always. Luna kissed him for a long moment before pulling away she would've loved to continue, but they were in a public space, after all. That apparently wasn't enough for Noah, though, because he leaned down and kissed her again quickly.

"I like you a lot," Noah blurted out, not really quite knowing why he said it.

"Right back at you," Luna voiced, her heart feeling like it was about to jump out of her chest. "Come on, shark boy. Let's go find you some sharks."

Together, the two of them explored basically every part of the aquarium, from the smallest fish to the biggest. And yes, they had found some sharks for Foolish, and yes, he had taken a picture of Luna in front of them. After a while, maybe more than hour, they had gone through the entire aquarium, and were now eating lunch in the little café they had. Luna ate her chips with her sandwich, honestly just feeling happy.

"I think we should do a beach date in the summer time," Luna suggested.

Noah tilted his head. "Won't you be on tour in the summer?"

"Only on the weekends. I'll most likely come home in between." Luna took a sip of her drink momentarily. "We can have a boogie boarding competition."

"Oh, just so you can lose?"

Luna narrowed her eyes at him playfully. "We'll see about that."

"I'll hold you to it, baby," Noah responded, smirking as the nickname got the same reaction it always did. "So, you liked the aquarium?"

"I loved it." She grinned at him. "I had a really nice time, especially since it was with you."

Noah coughed into his hand. "Simp."

Luna scoffed. "Oh, you're one to talk." She scrunched up her nose slightly, making his smile widen. "I guess we can just agree that we're both suckers for each other."

He sighed dramatically. "Fine." Noah then stood up, looking down at her. "Ice cream?"

"A man after my own heart." Luna stood up, and Noah instantly slung an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Say less."
