xi. i'm not that girl (simon)

simon kaviloda

"hey, si-money."

simon, who was laying on his bed, looked up. he saw that olivia had opened his window and was climbing in. she almost tumbled to the floor when she failed to get her other foot through the opening, but caught herself. the summer wind blew in, and it was warm.

he laughed, "hey, liv. you know, you're gonna get caught sneaking out one day."

she closed the window behind her and jumped onto the bed beside him.

"no way. I'm too slick. besides, my parents don't give a shit. they probably know but don't care enough."

rolling over, she rested her head against his lap and began messing with his rings.

"you never know."

olivia smiled briefly before humming, "remember that guy I was telling you about? the one from the mall."

simon's heart sank.

please be something bad.

not even three days ago, olivia had snuck over, much like today, and couldn't contain her excitement, gushing over this boy she met at the mall. he had accidentally ran into her, causing her to spill coffee all over her shirt. he insisted on buying her a new shirt, as well as a new coffee. he was really sweet and they ended up spending the whole day together. he got her house number so he could call her. that night and the next day, he didn't call, so olivia lost hope. this boy didn't seem like a 'playing hard to get' type of guy, so olivia stopped fretting over if he would call.

simon was so relieved when he didn't call her. of course, he wanted olivia to be happy, but he wanted to her be happy with him. if your in love, obviously, you're not going to want that person with anyone else.

"I bumped into him again!" her gave simon the biggest smile.

fuck.

simon braced himself, biting the inside of his cheek while he faked a happy expression.

"I was at the pool with kate and deena earlier, and a little while after we got there, he showed up with some of his friends. kate started flirting with one of his friends, which is when he noticed that I was there too. he immediately came over and pulled me aside. apparently, the number I gave him was wrong! it was off by a digit, so he did try to call, he was just calling the wrong person."

olivia rambled on, raving about how amazing he was.

when she looked away from simon, his smile dropped and he took a deep breath. he couldn't help it. he hated listening to her talk about him. he wasn't going to do anything stupid, or tell her how he felt. how could he when she's hung up on this mr. perfect?

he could tell that she was already gone, he no longer had a chance. from the way she kept squealing and hiding her face in her hands to the twinkle in her eye, it sank in deeper and deeper. she didn't have that twinkle when talking about simon. she didn't squeal when talking about simon. she didn't blush, or rant, or giggle. he was just a friend.

"I went to go tell kate and deena the backstory of how we know each other, but they already knew. apparently, someone had already gossiped to them about our meet-cute," olivia hummed, giving simon a knowing look. "what? do you talk about me or something?"

oh, if only you knew.

"only good things," simon smirked, shaking his head. "i promise."

olivia rolled over onto her stomach, facing simon. "he asked me on a date."

"o-oh!" simon raised his eyebrows. he didn't know why he sounded so surprised.

of course he did.

"and you said yes?" it was a question, but judging by how olivia slowly broke out into a smile, simon already knew the answer.

she was never going to be his.

i'm not that girl from wicked anyone? i used to connect to that song so much.
