iii. bella notte (isaac)

isaac kaviloda

every full moon, the young children of union gathered together in secrecy for a night full of fun and festivities. they would sneak away from their sleeping families and make their way deep into the woods until they approached a clearing. they would, for once in their overworked lives, let loose and enjoy their adolescents, drinking and singing together until their throats burst and feet detached from their restless bodies. they would smile and laugh, which was quite different from their frowns and groans back in union.

tonight was indeed another full moon, and the festivities had already begun.

henry strummed a soft melody on his guitar while mad thomas hazily drummed gently along. lizzie sang a sweet hymn together with the music and had a sleeping constance's head laying on her lap. hannah and sarah laughed drunkenly together while chasing each other around the trees, occasionally passing between dancing pairs, interrupting their moments shamelessly. abi sat beside lizzie and sang along with her, though she stopped fairly often to take swigs of her drink.

gillian mayfrield's wrinkled dress swirled around her legs as she twirled around in the clearing, humming softly along with the music. she didn't have a partner or group to dance with, but she didn't mind. she quite liked her small sways and occasional spins. it was a peaceful and beautiful night if you ignored the loud cheering and laughter of the others. her hair was ruffled and wavy, her once perfect braid crown now fallen into waves. her corset still hugged her body tightly and her shirt underneath was short, no longer than her elbows, and exposed her bright chest.

to isaac kaviloda, gilly looked radiant in the moonlight. it was like the stars had fallen from the sky just to dance alongside her. it was like the moon shined extra brightly just to light her way. it was like the sky dimmed just so she could be in the spotlight.

he found himself staring at the girl longingly as she danced.

he was sat in front of the small bonfire that they had lit for the full moon festival, a half empty mug in his hand. though he was on the verge of being intoxicated from all the applejack he had drunk, he could not see her clearer.

he longed just to have just a minute, a second, of her touch. and not just a friendly pat or a handshake. he wanted to hold her hand while taking strolls in the spring sunlight, to hug her near as she falls asleep in his arms, to feel her cherry lips against his as they kissed goodnight. he didn't long to spend nights with her, in the way the devil would smile upon, the way that people like caleb did. he wanted the real her, not the her you just shag and then ignore the rest of your life.

he longed to be loved by her the way he loved her.

all reality stopped after he caught her eye for a moment. she smiled at him with a heartfelt smile before turning back towards abi and lizzie, grabbing the ends of her skirt and spinning it around with her merrily.

he couldn't help himself from standing up and making his way towards her.

"you look beautiful tonight, gilly," he flattered, catching her hands as they dropped her skirt. he placed them around his neck and held her small waist in his hands. they fit perfectly around her, like they were created just to hold each other.

she looked up at him through her lashes and hummed, "you don't look to bad yourself, kaviloda. one might even say you put effort into your appearance tonight."

it was true. after isaac had confirmation that gilly would be at the festival, he put extra care into brushing his hair and making sure his clothes were perfect. sure, his clothes weren't too much evidence of it at the moment, due to the fact that his pants were messy, and his shirt's tie was no longer knotted, revealing his upper chest.

"I'm glad you noticed."

they swayed around in circles together as lizzie started lulling a slow song. it was a romantic song that even hannah and sarah stopped their mischief to gently dance to.

"oh, this is the night, its a beautiful night, and we call it belle notte,"

even with the girl he loved with his whole heart in his arms, it still wasn't enough.

"look at the skies. they have stars in their eyes, on this lovely belle notte,"

gilly ran her fingers through the short strands of hair on isaac's neck, sending shivers up his spine. he watched as her eyes flickered yellow in the light of the fire and her skin lit an angelic pale from the moonlight. he knew for sure that heaven had been sent to earth just to bless him with this moment.

"side by side with your loved one. you'll find enchantment here,"

gilly sang along softly with lizzie, moving her eyes to gaze up at isaac's.

"the night will weave its magic spell when the one you love is near,"

he joined in, chuckling lightly as she smiled drunkenly back up at him in childish delight.

"oh, this is the night, and the heavens are right,"

the pair couldn't stop staring into each others eyes. they enchanted each other with the twinkles in their eyes. their heartbeats were in sync and cheeks the same shade of rosy pink. gilly's chest rose with her breaths and simon's caught in his throat.

he knew he might screw this up, and that there was a high chance that he would only have her for the remaining few hours of the night, but he couldn't help himself. he just had to see how she felt for him.

"on this lovely belle notte,"

in a swift movement, he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to gilly's lips. he moved his firm hands off her waist and up to her face, cupping her cheeks. as he moved, her arms dropped from around him and froze by her sides. he didn't move any further, fearing that if he did, she would snap back to reality and smack him silly.

he felt a knot in his stomach squeezing tighter and tighter as second after second, she stood still, paralyzed. he felt panicked, more sober than ever. he flet like he needed to pull away and run far from union.

but a touch, her touch, brought him back.

she slowly lifted her relaxing arms up and held him by the waist, pulling him impossibly close. once she had finally processed the moment through her intoxicated mind, she felt a strange bubbly feeling in her stomach, almost as if a thousand butterflies were trapped inside of her. she could feel his eyes on her, even after she closed her eyes to enjoy the moment. she could feel his warm, shaky breath ricocheting off her hot cheeks and his chapped lips moving slowly against hers.

they stayed in each others arms until a new song began to play, a more wild song. and everything was back to the way it was before. hannah and sarah began their chase again, couples began to drink and dance again, and even little constance woke up again to rejoin the festivities.

the only thing that was different, however, were isaac and gilly. they stayed in each other's embrace, smiling at each other for so long, so hard, that their cheeks were sore and were going to be stuck like that until morning.

gilly held onto isaac, brushing a fallen stray of hair behind his ear, before leaning back up and kissing him again. they smiled into the kiss and were inseparable the rest of the night.

everyone couldn't believe it.

he got the girl.
