𝟷𝟼. Year 2000

It had been five incredible years since life changed for the Calvin's. Scott Calvin took on the mantle as Santa -- Admittedly, he had been hesitant at first. At the same time, Noelle Calvin had proven herself to be Christmas Spirit in human form -- something that no one doubted. And though both missed Charlie -- Scott's son, Noelle's brother -- dearly, they made time to see him in the middle of the year when a majority of the Elves were on break before the chaos of Christmas consumed their time. But it hadn't only been their new jobs that had changed their lives -- or more specifically, Noelle's life.

Noelle and Bernard had now been an official couple for almost five years, the two were happy in love and had moved into Noelle's cabin in their third year of being together. And despite the stress around Christmas time that often tore them apart and left them wanting one another's company while being too tired at the end of the day to do anything more than crawl into bed and sleep -- sometimes Noelle would get home later than Bernard leaving the tired Head Elf to fall into a restless sleep without her by his side. Santa could see that Christmas was becoming a stressful time for the couple and wished to do something about it.

So the 21st century began and despite the chaos that was Y2K, the year 2000 had promises for a new world and a whole new era in technology and education. And so Santa had made the decision to send Noelle and Bernard on a three-month vacation to ensure that their positions in the North Pole wouldn't tear them apart. And so the young couple had packed their bags and on the first of March, they headed out of the North Pole leaving Santa and Curtis in charge of everything; Noelle had ensure that Judy, Abby and Felix were watching over them too.

Their first stop was Chicago, Bernard was beyond ecstatic to see his partner spend time with her mother, step father and siblings, Charlie and Lucy. They stayed with them for two weeks and the family showed Bernard around the city teaching him more about their family traditions and the life in the big city compared to his life in the North Pole. By the end of the two weeks, Noelle's light had returned and she had a new bounce in her step that made Bernard light up too. The couple seemed to have their spark again, their exhaustion faded thanks to the proper sleep they got and they were finally eating properly.

Their next destination was Hawaii, the place was somewhere that Bernard had wanted to visit and Noelle was craving something warm. Upon their arrival, Noelle used her magic to make them appear human to others. When they arrived at the hotel, they were informed that they had the penthouse suite and were given a list of things for them to do as a couple. Noelle's smile never faded as the couple spent the time doing different activities and learning about the culture. On their last night, the couple sat on the balcony with Noelle lying in Bernard's arms as they watched the stars, Noelle falling asleep leaving Bernard awake in his thoughts.

Five years of being with Noelle and he knew wholeheartedly that she was his one; His Soul Light. And while some will think she was made for him, he fully accepted that he was made for her. His hand moved to his favourite jackets pocket, he pulled out a small green velvet box and opened it to reveal a golden ring with a diamond snowflake. She was his forever and he only hoped that soon she would be his wife, just thinking of Noelle as his wife made sparkles flutter around the area; he swatted them away before stuffing the ring box into his jacket and pulling Noelle closer to him. By the end of their vacation, Noelle Calvin will be his wife.

By the last week of their three month vacation, the couple found themselves in Greece on an Island known as Skopelos. The hotel they were staying in was beautiful and they spent plenty of time on the beach under the warm sun listening to the laughter in the air. And the nights were spent together with passion in the air and plenty of sweet kisses shared. But as the days went by, Noelle took notice of Bernard's nervous behaviour and how he would whisper to himself occasionally. Admittedly, Noelle worried that being away from the North Pole for so long had affected her boyfriend and she was thinking it may be best to head home early.

"Bernard," Noelle called as she walked into their bedroom, Bernard sat on the bed with a book in his hand. "Yes, my snowflake?" Bernard asked as he looked up at her. "I was thinking that maybe we should head back home a few days early," Noelle told her boyfriend who immediately put his book down and walked up to her. "Wait, why? Are you okay? Feeling okay? Homesick? Or did someone say something to upset you?" Bernard rambled making Noelle smile before she cupped his face and kissed him. Bernard grabbed her hips and pulled her in to him, deepening the kiss that made his body tingle; snowflakes falling on them.

"It's not that, Darling. I'm just concerned about you," Noelle told him after pulling away from him, her heart was racing and every part of her wanted to continue the passion. "Concerned about me? Why, snowflake?" Bernard asked with concern in his eyes. "I've noticed some moments of you... talking to yourself... and... I thought that maybe you've been away from home for too long and I don't want to force you away from home for too long," Noelle expressed to him, Bernard smiled softly at her words. "You don't see it, do you?" Bernard whispered before smirking, he used his magic to change their clothes before teleporting them to the cliff that they had seen on their first night.

The cliff sat above the calm waves, the setting sun created a myriad of colours throughout the sky that reflected off of the couple's eyes. Noelle noticed that Bernard had changed into a green button-up with some black suit pants while she wore a teal sundress matched with sandals. "What is this?" Noelle asked while Bernard took in a slow breath, he reached out and grasped Noelle's hands within his own. "Noelle Calvin, when you came into my life, I hadn't expected to meet the woman I love with my whole heart and soul. You were there for me when no one else saw my troubles and you never failed to help me feel my emotions rather than push them away," Bernard began, Noelle smiling softly.

"I knew from the very first moment I saw you in the stables that you were going to be someone important to me but to be here with you is something I couldn't predict but am thankful for every day we are together," Bernard kissed Noelle's hands before looking back into her eyes, "You are my Soul Light, Noelle. You are my love, my heart, my world... My home. And I only see you." Bernard took another slow breath before letting go of her hands and lowering down to one knee, Noelle's eyes widened as she cupped her hand over her mouth. "Noelle Calvin, will you marry me?" Bernard asked her, Noelle nodded without hesitation.

"Yes! A million times, yes!" Noelle exclaimed before Bernard slipped the ring onto her left ring finger, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and slammed her lips to his causing them to fall back against the soft grass. "I love you, Bernard," Noelle whispered against his lips. "I love you, Noelle," Bernard whispered back before rolling over to hover above her. "You, my snowflake, are the best thing to ever happen to me," Bernard added before he kissed her again, Noelle didn't hesitate to kiss him back. She smirked lightly before teleporting them back to their room, they laughed together when they landed on the bed.

Returning home to the North Pole, the newly engaged couple were eager to inform everyone of the news and Bernard was eager to tell Judy that the plan worked out. "You're home!" Curtis cheered before letting out a tired breath, "I do not envy either of your jobs. Keeping elves in line while working hard on keeping to schedule AND keeping the happy Christmas spirit in the process is not easy." Noelle grinned at the younger Elf before embracing him in a hug, "But I bet you did an amazing job and I couldn't be prouder." Curtis beamed with pride at Noelle's words before spotting the ring on her finger, he grinned at the sight.

Curtis ran off into the middle of the North Pole, "SHE SAID YES!" Everyone in the North Pole cheered for the news, Noelle and Bernard looked at each other with amused smiles. "Well, you were right, he spilled it for us," Bernard said to Noelle who leaned over and kissed him. "He's a little predictable at times," Noelle replied before they headed into the Workshop where Santa stood with a smile and a banner saying "Congratulations". Noelle grinned happily before running forward and embracing her father in a hug, he kissed the top of her head. "My little girl... all grown up. You're getting married," Santa muttered with a smile.

The elves celebrated well into the night, Noelle and Bernard danced together and laughed with everyone else. It was an event almost a big as Christmas itself. Noelle had slipped away to teleport to Chicago to share the news with her mother, step father and siblings who all cheered and congratulated her as well. Noelle felt so happy, her heart was full of love and joy that never seemed to fade. However, only a few days had passed before Noelle felt unwell. Deciding it may be a good idea to speak with the Elder doctor, she learned some pretty life changing information that seemed to change her entire life.
