Didn't we almost have it all?
Season three episode twenty-five
Eight weeks ago
After Max woke up they immediately moved her to a bigger room with a comfier bed, a crowd started to form outside and since she was only allowed a couple of visitors, everyone had agreed that Mark and Maeve should see her first.
"Oh, my angel. I have missed you" Max cooed at her daughter with open arms letting Mark know that Maeve was okay to sit with her.
"Hi Mommy" Maeve laid her head on her Moms chest with a yawn. Max presses her lips on top of Maeve head, rubbing her back for comfort.
"Hi" Mark finally said from beside her.
"Hi, Mark" Max smiled up at him, she was happy for this moment.
"How are you feeling? Do you need some water or ice chips?" Mark asked her, she thought it was cute the way his forehead wrinkled when he was worried.
"I'm fine, I swear, I just want to spend time with my family" Max said as she continued to rub her daughters back.
"Right, I'll, uh I'll go get them" Mark stuttered out, putting his hands in his pockets, he began to walk toward the door.
"Be my boyfriend" She blurted out, spur of the moment type of thing but she meant it non the less.
"What?" Mark swiftly turned his body around, his mouth hung with shock.
"Do you love me?" Max questioned, she was so sure that the answer would be yes.
"I Uh, I- what?" He stuttered again, this time walking closer to Max.
"Mark, Do you love me? Because if you are in love with me just as much as Im in love with you then there shouldn't be a reason that we don't try to be together, but if you don't love me then tell me now or else I will still be pining over you like a lovesick fool. So tell me, do you love me" She wasn't messing around, she was too old to be playing a guessing game and life was too short not to spend every moment with someone you love.
"You love me?" Mark was still processing, he had gotten into Columbia, aced his finals and internship but right now, his mind was overheating.
"I swear to god, Mark. Are you really that den-"
He kissed her. Without warning, he had made the few short steps to her side and kissed her, he didn't need for her to finish her sentence and he didn't even need to fully understand what was happening, all her knew was that the woman that he loves was telling him that she loves him back, and that was all that he needed.
"You um, you still didn't answer my question?" Max whispered when they pulled apart, his face was still inches from her.
"Yes, to both of them" He whispered back, giving her another kiss, "I think there are more people here to see you"
She nodded her head in understanding as he went to tell the next person to go in, which was her Mom, Dad and Monty.
"Monty?" Max was surprised, seeing her eldest brother here after all these years was shocking.
"Maxi, wow you're a little pale" He cracked a joke, the tension was thick but the mood was high.
"Thanks, I almost died. Anyway, what are you doing here?" Max asked him.
"Why does everyone keep asking that?" Monty looked at his sister and then to his parents.
"Well you didn't really leave any room for hope" Max confessed and it was true, in the beginning maybe, but after awhile of no calls, text or even emails they all kind of lost hope.
"Yeah" He whispered, "I'm sorry about that, it just got hard with my heart diagnosis and then Edie dying, I thought the best thing for me at the time was getting away and I didn't mean for it to be this long, I just got shameful and embarrassed so I thought the best thing to do was to not come back at all"
"So you thought that it was a good idea to leave your family, a family who stood by you and never stopped looking out for you to be by yourself? Nice, real nice Beaumont" Max snapped at him.
"You're right, I'm sorry and I promise that I'm not leaving and there isn't anything that I won't do to make it up to you guys" Monty told the three of them.
"Try starting with Leo, I mean after all he did become a cardio doctor because of your condition" Piper put her hand on her son's shoulder, it was time for the next group to come in. Max watched as they left and smiled when Leo and Christina were next.
"EEEEE!" Max squeals, "I am so excited to see you guys" She gave a nod to Christina, understanding that she most likely didn't want a hug and then motioned for her brother to give her a hug.
"We are so glad to see you, sis" Leo sighed with relief.
"Not as glad as I am to see you" Max gave his forearm a slight squeeze.
"We have something to tell you" Christina interrupts their small conversation.
"Okay?" Max gave the two of them a look before settling on Christina.
"We are getting Married" Leo finally tells her with a smile.
"Uh, you're what?" Max opened her mouth to say something else but it was lost on her.
"Yeah, I mean I love her and we already know we want to spend the rest of our lives together, and since Mom would just love to see me get Married we decided that signing a piece of paper couldn't hurt" Leo grabbed Christina's hand and smiled.
"And you want this too?" Max looked at Christina, she knew that she didn't want to get married so it was a little odd for her to want it now.
"I want this, I really do"
Eight weeks later
Max had been invited to Christina's bachelorette party, which wasn't really a party. She sat on the couch next to Izzie Steven who was making the vail for Meredith's tissue wedding dress.
"I thought I was gonna hate this party game thing, but it's kind of great. Can we set her on fire after?" Christina sat on the floor in front of the coffee table with her hand stretched out so that Callie could write on it.
"No, Christina. We are not lighting anything on fire" Max rolled her eyes at her soon to be sister-in-law.
"I'm sorry, I'm just stressing out about my vows, I mean what do you say to a man whom you want to spend the rest of your life with? 'Thank you?' No it's got to be meaningful" Christina took a drink of her beer and looked down at Callie who was writing some of the vows onto her own hand.
"Okay, these wedding vows are not all gonna fit here" Callie stresses, the ink was mostly wiped off because Christina wouldn't stop moving.
"Okay, then write smaller" Christina laughed at Callie.
"Be still, please. 'Vow' just became 'cow'" Callie said to Christina now bothering too look up.
"You don't need vows on your hand, when you get up there just speak from the heart" Izzie told her, Max could tell she was getting annoyed by the sound of her voice.
"The heart is an organ. It pumps, it circulated blood, it gets clogged from time to time, it does not however, speak, it does not have tiny little lips on it" Christina sassed back.
"Forgive her Izzie, it's the bridezilla talking" Max joked, grabbing onto Christina's shoulder and giving it a tight squeeze.
"Well, you're all 'glass totally empty" Izzie commented, fixing the beautiful gown made of toilet paper on Meredith's body.
"I'm gonna like being married, it's the wedding part that's ridiculous. I don't need some ceremony to make me happy, I've got Leo and that's all I need" Christina replied back.
The girls laughed at Christina before all of their pagers went off, well except for Christina's.
"Hey, mine didn't go off. Piece of crap" Christina said before getting off the floor.
"Maybe it was on purpose, you are getting married ya know" Max laughed before grabbing her coat and running over to her house to get ready.
"What's going on?" Max asked as soon as she walked into the patient's room, grabbing her stethoscope from around her neck to prepare.
Joe and Walter stared at the doctor who just walked in, glad it was her but terrified that they called her in.
"Joe? Walter? What's wrong? What happened?" Max worries, she grabbed their arms for comfort before looking down at Rina.
"She's been having chest pains" Joe replied back.
"I need to know what time your chest pain started" Leo asked her, he held the monitor to her chest so that he could see if anything was off.
"I don't know. Yesterday afternoon" Rina told him.
"What time exactly? This is important" Leo asked her, wiping the gel off of her chest.
"Around 3:00, what's wrong with me? And why did you call another Doctor in?
"I'm going to explain everything to you, I promise. This is Dr. Mallard, she is here to make sure everything goes smoothly with your babies" Leo replied back gently.
"Please, call me M2. And I don't want you worrying about me, I'm just a safety precaution" Max smiled down at her.
"Right, and right now we need to get you up to the surgical floor" Leo messed around with the minister.
"Surgery? But what about my babies" Rina cried out.
"I think those babies are coming out today" Leo informed her, making Max nod sympathetically.
"But I-I haven't decided, I I haven't chosen the parents, I need time to decide" Rina looked at both Joe and Leo.
"You don't need to decide anything right now, right now the most important thing is making sure that you are okay. All right?" Joe told her, holding her hand to comfort her slightly, with a nod of her head, both Leo and Max left so they could get ready.
"Leo" Christina called out to him while the two were walking to the desk.
"Ah, I've got a surgery, but it shouldn't take me more than four, five tops" Leo informed her.
"He needs to get a C.T amigo, and we are pretty sure there a tear in her aorta, her heart is about to go bomb" Max told the interns, making a bomb noise and motioning it with her hands.
"Most dissecting aorta burst within 48 hours" Addison said popping into the conversation.
"Which means we have less than 12 hours to fix it before she's dead" Leo deadpanned, looking right at Addison.
"So that's where I come in, I need to get the babies out" Max smiled and pointed at herself.
"So I can save her life" Leo finished.
"You have an aortic dissection?" Christina said practically drooling.
"Sweetheart, I promise I will make it to the chapel in time. I love you" Leo said leaning over the counter to kiss his fiancé.
Max was sitting in Christina and Leo's apartment with her Mom, who had laid out all of the family heirlooms.
"Mom, you know Christina, she isn't going to want to wear this thing" Max turned to her Mom while holding this big chunky necklace.
"I know dear, I just think it'll be fun to see her reaction" Piper chuckled deviously.
"You are so horrible Mom!" Max laughed back before putting the necklace back in the rightful position.
"You know, you guys really don't have to do this" Christina said coming out from her bedroom.
"We know honey, but you need something old, so might as well bring these bad boys out" Piper said to her future daughter in law.
"Yeah, and if you don't like any of them just tell us, we won't get upset. It's your day Christina" Max smiled.
The three of the looked over the jewels, Piper getting excited very time Christina picked up a necklace or touched a ring.
After a couple of minutes looking over the pieces, Christina's eyes set on a beautiful diamond necklace, piling it up and looking over at Piper, the bride was nervous as if she hadn't chosen right.
"Perfect! Let's just try it on" Piper clapped and dragged Christina over to the mirror, grabbing the necklace she put it around her neck and clasped it together.
"It looks amazing, so beautiful" Piper said emotionally, tears threatening to spill.
"How do you like it Christina?" Max asked.
"I love it, it looks amazing. Thanks you guys" Christina smiled at the two women, grateful.
"We'd do anything for you darling, my great great grandmother wore that at her wedding, years of happiness and bliss with her marriage and I hope it brings you the same" Piper squeezes Christina's shoulders, knowing that the girl didn't like to be hugged.
After leaving the apartment, Max stopped and grabbed some food for Mark, he had been at the hospital all day and she honestly felt bad, she was lucky enough that Addison stepped in on Rinas surgery so that she could be there for Christina.
"One double cheeseburger, large fry and a water from Burger joint at your service" Max said from behind his while basically shoving the bag in his face.
"My girl, how do you always know what I want" Mark turned around and smiled at her.
"Babe, I spent years mastering how you think, I've still got it" Max gloated taking a seat next to him.
"Hell yeah you do" Mark shouted, leaning across the table to give his girlfriend a kiss.
"So how did Christina handle all of your Mom wedding Heirlooms? Did she freak?" Mark asked before taking a big bite from his burger.
"Surprisingly no, she even picked out a necklace to wear" Max told him, picking up a French fry and popping it into her mouth.
"The dainty diamond one?" Mark questioned.
"How'd you know?" Max puzzled.
"It's the same one you showed me" He shrugged.
"Right, when we were getting married" Max nodded her head.
"Right" Mark simply said, the conversation got gloomy fast.
"Anyway, I'm just so excited to see Maeve in her little flower girl dress, we created one pretty girl"
"Gets it from her Momma, look at you, most beautiful women I've ever seen" Mark gave her a cheeky smile.
"Keep it up and you might be getting surprise tonight" Max leaned in closer to his face.
"You are so beautiful and sexy and smart and thoughtful and funny and amazing and-" She cut him off with a kiss.
"I've already asked my Mom to watch her but thank you for that, really stroked my ego" Max smiled into his lips before pulling away.
"You little manipulator"
"Don't hate the playa, hate the game" She gave him a little shrug, leaning down to kiss him again, "I've got to run, Leo was in surgery all day and I'm sure he'll want this burger that I got him"
"I love you!"
"Anyone got any deodorant" Alex asked the group of people getting ready for the wedding.
"Um, You're not putting my deodorant in your hairy armpits" Christina snarked.
"Don't move! You're gonna end up having a unibrow, you've seen my Dad they ain't pretty" Max scolded her, she put a tight grip on Christina's chin to keep her straight, "And I think Izzie has some in her locker"
"Closed? Open?" George asked the group of girls.
"Closed, perfect. Dashing" Meredith commented.
"Thanks"
"You look great" Izzie complimented making Make look up at her.
"Moment of truth people" Patricia said walking into the room.
"Those our scores?" Alex asked her.
"Grey" She called out before handing it to her and then going down the list of people.
Max heard a bunch of cheers before waiting for the results, she looks forward at Christina, "Did you pass?"
"Is that even a question?" Christina smiled at her, Max screeched with excitement, "Did you pass?"
"You bet your married booty, I did" Meredith replies to Christina.
Max listened to everyone say they passed, she was proud and she was excited for them, "Congratulations, doctors. I can't wait to see the future with you guys in it"
"All right! Let's go" Christina shouted, making everyone leave the room, except for Meredith who stayed behind to talk to Derek.
Max stood right next to Derek, Mark and Leo, she had been asked to be his best man and Derek and Mark were the groomsmen.
"You okay?" Max asked Derek, he looked washed out and his eyes were glossy.
"I'm fine. I'm fine" Derek replied after a moment of hesitation, "You need anything? Need a mint, huh? A getaway car?" He turned the attention on Leo.
"If it's the chief thing, don't worry about it. You deserve it" Leo told him.
"Richard didn't ask me to be Chief" Derek told him simply.
"We all assumed...well, who did he pick?" Mark asked his friend, they were all a little shocked.
"I don't know, it wasn't me"
" You really don't... look so good" Leo told him.
"Meredith and I might not make it" He finally told them, "I think I want it more that she does but today's your day. It's all about you today"
"You really are a good groomsmen" Leo smiled at him.
"I try" Derek joked. Both Mark and Leo left to go to there spots leaving Max and Derek alone.
"It's not true" Max spoke up.
"What isn't?" Derek questioned.
"That you want it more that you, it's not true. I've seen the way she looks at you, the way she talk about you, she wants you, all of you. She didn't grow up with that preconceived notion like you did, she didn't watch her Dad bring her Mom flowers or kiss her while making dinner, her family was broken and it made her wary. Don't give up on her just yet" Max finished her two cents and bid him a goodbye with a kiss on the cheek, walking over to her man and her brother to witness one of the happiest moments she'll ever witness.
Everyone stood in there spot as the music started to play, they watched as the back doors opened to reveal Maeve with a small basket filled flowers, she made her way down the isle throwing the flowers down the isle and making it to stand next to her Mom, next was Christina in her beautiful wedding gown holding hands with Robert which was a miracle that he was even having a good day.
Max looked at her big brother and watched as his eyes glossed over, sniffing his nose to try and hold it together. She looked at her Mom who let her tears flow openly, the look of admiration and happiness she had when she looked at Christina with Robert. Lastly she looked at Mark, his hair gelled back and his black suit, he looked amazing and Max couldn't help herself but to imagine how he'll look when it was there turn.
Christina made it to Leo and grabbed his hands, the officiant waited till everyone to sit before making his speech:
"Welcome, family, friends and loved ones. We gather here today to celebrate the wedding of Leonard and Christina. You have come here to share in this formal commitment they make to one another, to offer your love and support to this union, and to allow Leonard and Christina to start their married life together surrounded by the people dearest and most important to them.
So welcome to one and all, who have traveled from near and far. Leonard and Christina thank you for your presence here today and now ask for your blessing, encouragement, and lifelong support for their decision to be married.
We've come to the point in your ceremony where you're going to say your vows to one another. But before you do that, I ask you to remember that love—which is rooted in faith, trust, and acceptance—will be the foundation of an abiding and deepening relationship. No other ties are more tender, no other vows more sacred than those you now assume. If you are able to keep the vows you take here today, not because of any religious or civic law, but out of a desire to love and be loved by another person fully, without limitation, then your life will have joy and the home you establish will be a place in which you both will find the direction of your growth, your freedom, and your responsibility. Please now read the vows you have written for each other"
Leo grabbed onto Christina hands, wiping a stray tear before continuing with his vows, "Ever since I was young I never really understood anything about the world, and I never understood anything that happened in my life. The only thing that ever made sense to me was you, and how I felt about you. That's all I've ever known, and that's enough, that's enough for me, for the rest of my life, Christina"
The crowd watched as they both silently cried, Christina trying to pull herself together long enough to say her own vows, "I wasn't sure this day would ever come, but you were. I wasn't sure love could survive everything we put it through, but you were. You were always strong and always sure. And now I know I want you to stand beside me for the rest of my life. That's what I'm sure of"
Max watched as the two cry together and share there happiness and love, she couldn't help but cry, she was thankful for the family she was given and she couldn't be happier for the two.
"Do you, Leonard, take this woman to be your wedded wife?" The officiant said beginning his next verse.
"I do" Leo basically shouted.
"Do you, Christina, take this man to be your wedded husband"
"I do" Christina said softly, smiling as her tears fell.
"May I have the rings, please?" Max handed the Man the two rings before stepping back, "Please repeat after me: I give you this ring as a daily reminder of my love for you"
"I give you this ring as a daily reminder of my love for you" both Leo and Christina said.
"By the power of your love and commitment and by the power of me, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride!"
Leo grabbed Christina before pulling her in for a kiss, pulling away to walk down the aisle to begin their new life together
//
I put a little twist on this episode, obviously since Christina actually got married but I really love them together and I feel like if Burke actually understood Christina then they probably would've gotten married too
Also if you noticed, I got that officiant stuff from google and I recently watched Topanga and Coreys wedding so I decided to use their vows.
I am not dead.
How do you guys feel that Leo and Christina actually got married?
