Nine
The three friends walked over to the empty table in the corner, Max took the chair facing the bar so that she could see the people coming and going, Callie and Graham took the seats next to her.
"I'm gonna get a drink, you guys fancy something?" Graham said looking at the girls either expecting eyes.
"No, no. I've gotta drive home, just a water for me is fine" Max said shaking her head immediately.
"Give me a few shots, you can choose how many" Callie said waving her hand in the air.
Max laughed at her friend, Callie literally lived at the hospital and since the hospital was only across the street, it didn't matter how drunk she got.
Max was having a great time, she couldn't even remember the last time she had this much fun. Her and Callie were in the middle of the Bar dancing to whatever song was on, it didn't even matter that Max wasn't drinking, being around Callie's big personality made everything twenty times better.
Callie was swinging her hips while Max just shimmied her shoulders, she looked around the room noticing the stares that they were getting, her eyes stopped at the grinning guy at the bar and she stopped dancing and smiled at him, which he gladly returned so she took that as a sign to go over.
"I'm Max" She said holding her hand out for the man to shake.
He gave her a small laugh and shook her hand, "Levi"
"Levi" She said back to him with a hum and tapping her finger on her chin, "I like that, mind if I sit?"
He nods his head and gestures to the chair next to him, "Go ahead, this is the first time a pretty girl has walked up to me in a bar"
Max began to blush, this was a first for her too but she was not going to leave here without getting to know this guy.
"This may seem like a weird fast date, but I'm up for it if you are?" Max said sheepishly, tucking the fallin' hair from her bum behind her ears.
"I'm game, if it has anything to do with you, I'm up for anything" He says back to her with a smile, she could tell that he knew why he was doing, and he was good at it.
Max definitely was not going out that night to find someone, it was just supposed to be a fun time with some friends but she was glad she had met Levi, they had really hit it off and a couple weeks later they were still talking and later tonight she had a date with him.
"Callie, I am so grateful, really I am" Max says to her friend, Callie has offered to watch Maeve while Max went on her date so she was really grateful.
"Go! He's outside waiting, and you're loosing precious time!" Callie yells out with a laugh pushing Max toward the door.
"Okay! Okay! I'll be back in a bit" Max tells her friend and then walks out of the house to Levi's car.
"Hey!" She says once she sees him, he was leaning on the outside of his car, waiting for Max so that he could open the door for her.
"You look beautiful, but of course you always do" Levi says with a cheeky smile then turning to open the passenger door.
Max gives him a soft kiss and gets into the car, watching Levi run around the car to get into the drivers seat.
"It's freezing!" Max says, rubbing her hands together with a shiver.
Levi reaches over and grabs Max's hands, cupping them with his own and bringing them to his mouth, blowing out his hot air onto her freezing fingers. She looks at him with such adoration, leaning over the middle and kissing him again.
"I'm really glad I met you" He says as they break away from the kiss. Max sets her forehead on his and smiles, "Me too"
Levi opens the door to the cafe, letting Max go first then walking in himself. He grabs her hand and pulls her to the table in the middle, pulling out a chair for her to sit at.
"Wow, Levi, this is just...wow" Max says completely speechless.
"I'm really glad you like it, I wasn't sure" Levi replies back with a grin, he knew Max wasn't the fancy dinner type so he took his best shot.
"It's really amazing, and it smells even better. What is that?" She asks looking around the cafe trying to find the source.
"I called ahead and asked them to bake every one of there cookies, I hope that's okay"
"I get to try different cookies all night? Levi that sounds so perfect, I never get to eat like that" Max says back with excitement.
"Good, let me go tell them that we are ready"
As Levi stands up, Max looks around more intrigued. Never in her life has she been on a date like this, sure Mark and her went on plenty of dates but she couldn't remember being on one this thoughtful and she was loving it. She turns her head and sees Levi walking over with a huge plate of cookies.
"Yum, I can't wait to eat all these" Max says running her hands together, Levi laughs at how excited Max was, he thought it was cute.
He sets down the plate and sit back down but this time he sits on the chair next to Max, grabbing a cookie and handing it to her, "This one says it's Ginger Bread"
She puts the cookie in her mouth and hums, "This is so good"
Max grabs all of her cookies and puts them in front of her, then smelling each one to see if she could guess the flavor before she tries it, she put the second cookie in her mouth and sighs, best cookie ever.
She looks up and sees Levi's eyes staring at her, she leans back in her chair putting her hand on her head embarrassed, "I am so sorry, I can't even remember the last time I even ate cookies, with working at the hospital and having a seven year old daughter, I never really get to do this"
"No, no! It's fine, I think it's cute. I could watch you eat a cookie forever if it means that happy look on you're face" Levi said with a small laugh, he's never met a girl like Max before.
Max leans forward with a grin, taking his face with her heads so that he was facing her, and giving him a soft kiss, maybe Max could find light after the storm.
"Come on Levi!" Max yelled out to the man standing at the bottom of the stairs, it had been almost a full month and Max decided that now was the best time for Levi to meet Maeve, sure maybe she was rushing it but she really felt like she could start a life with this guy and Maeve was a big part of that.
"I'm comin, I'm comin! This huge stuffed dog is not easy to carry" Levi replies back with a grin, yesterday Levi had went out and bought a stuffed dog that looked exactly like Aslan, Max thought it was super cute and she knew that Maeve would love it.
Max opens the front door for Levi, walking in behind him she hollers for Maeve, and it wasn't long before Max could hear her tiny feet slapping against the old oak floor, "Mommy!" Maeve calls out opening her arms so that she could give her mother a loving hug.
"Mae I was only gone for five minutes, but I want you to meet someone, is that okay?" Max asks her daughter as she was crouching to her level.
Maeve turns her head to look up at Levi, her eyes widening as she notices the stuffed dog in his hand, "That's a big Aslan" Maeve calls out letting go of her mothers arm and into Levi's.
Max stands up, laughing at the way her daughter reacted to the dog, she walks over to Maeve and Levi, taking her daughter from his hands and plopping her on her hip, "Maeve this is Levi" She tells her daughter and pointing at Levi.
"Levi? He's your friend?" Maeve asks, propping her elbow on her Moms shoulder then leaning her head on her hand.
"Yes, sweetie he is my friend, I think he's going to stay for dinner, is that okay with you?" Max asks her daughter in a soft tone, looking over at Levi, Max notices a small smile on his face, giving him a smile of her own she leans in a kisses him.
"Ew Mommy! Don't do that" Maeve says grossed out and covering her eyes with her hands, both Max and Levi laugh at her reaction.
"Sorry baby, wheres Aunt Callie?" Max wonders then signals Levi to follow her into the kitchen, she sees Callie making dinner, this time with pants on.
"Hey Callie, this is Levi" Max says gesturing to him, "Levi, this is my best friend, Callie"
"Hi! It is so good to finally meet you, Max talks about you none stop" Callie said to Levi with a little chuckle.
Levi looks over at a blushing Max and grins, "You talk about me? All good things I hope"
"For sure! I don't want to say she's obsessed-"
"Okay! Callie, I think he gets it. Thank you for that" Max says stopping Callie from more embarrassment.
Callie laughs and turns back to her cooking, "After I'm done I'm gonna take Maeve to Derek's, so if you need anything, just call him"
"Oh! Thank you so much" Max replies back, she felt bad that Callie was her go too person but she was glad that she was getting the night alone.
"No! It's fine"
It was after dinner, Max and Levi were sitting on the couch watching a movie, "I really had a nice time"
Max looks over at Levi and kisses him, "Me too, and I'm really glad I met you"
"Um, I don't know if this is pushing it but uh," Levi starts nervously, "I was just wondering what happened to Maeve's Dad"
Max let's out a little sigh, "It's complicated, I'll tell you the short version, so me and Mark, that's Maeve's Dad, were together for almost eight years but I had gotten a job offer at the hospital and I wanted to take it but Mark wanted to stay in New York. So I came here, found out I was pregnant and told Mark, but that feels like a lifetime ago"
"So he didn't come see you when he found out that you were pregnant?" Levi curiously asks, he was deep in thought, wondering how any man could not be in there child's life.
"Uh, no" Max says nervously, she knew she had nothing to be nervous about but she still felt a little embarrassed about it.
"Wow, I would never do that to you" Levi says to her with a frown.
Max pulls his face close to hers and kisses him passionately, she was never the one to be this bold but it was different with him, she wanted to go the extra step.
