Beginning

Max has been in Seattle for about a week now and it's been two weeks since her and Mark broke up. Max has been staying with her older brother at his apartment but currently she was looking at a house to buy. She had decided that she would stay in Seattle for as long as she was welcomed, she didn't want to go back to New York and she already talked to Derek and Addison and they both agreed that they would visit every once and awhile.

Max was sitting on her brothers couch scheduling a viewing for this amazing house she found earlier, it was close to the hospital and it had four bedrooms so when and if she was ready to start a family she had plenty of room.

"Hey Max, What are you doing?" Her brother Leo asked walking through the apartment door.

"I'm looking at houses" Max said simply then turning attention back on the house "Here come look at this! It's amazing!" She grabbed the printed paper of the house to bring it over to her brother.

"Look It has a wrapped porch and a swing, it's three story's, has three bathrooms and four Bedrooms" Max said excitedly pointing to all the features.

Leo sighed grabbing the papers from her hand and setting them down on the table "Max, what are you doing" He asked softly grabbing her shoulders to steady her rapidness.

"If I think about it I cry so I'm not thinking about it, I'm thinking about a house" Max said moving from her brothers hold and grabbing her papers again then turning toward the guest room that she was sleeping at.

It was the next day, and Max had a meeting with Richard Webber about the job offer at the hospital. She was doing her normal morning routine in her bathroom, taking a shower, brushing her teeth and everything else.

Max was pulling back her short hair as much as she could when she heard a knock on the door "Maxine its time to go" Leo's voice called out.

She rolled her eyes at the sound of her full name "I'm coming Leonard" she said with a little attitude opening the door and walking out.

"Come on, we've got to go and you've got to see the Chief" Leo said pushing Max out of the door and into the car.

Leo parked his car in his spot and they both got out, walking toward the front doors of the hospital, Max turned to Leo "I'm gonna go find the Chief, I'll see you later Leo"

She walked up to the receptionist "Hi, I'm Maxine Mallard, I have an appointment to see Chief Webber" She said putting her keys and phone into her purse.

The receptionist nodded grabbing the phone to call the Chief, "Chief Webber, I have a Maxine Mallard here, do you want me to send her up?" Max heard the girl say "Okay, I'll send her up, thank you"

The doctor gave the helpful receptionist a small smile of gratitude before Max goes and tries to find his office but as soon as she turns around she see's a short black women standing right in front of her "Oh hello" Max said kind of startled

"I heard you wanted to see the Chief, who are you?" The lady asks crossing her arms

"I'm Maxine Mallard, who are you?" Max was now confused, wondering who this women was.

"Great, there's two of you. I'm Miranda Bailey and until I tell you otherwise you can call me Bailey, I'll take you up to his office" Bailey said walking off, Max stood there wide eyed walking after the shorter lady.

They got onto the elevator and Bailey was standing straight, not giving the new doctor the time of day. The doors to the elevator opened and Max got out, still not completely sure where they were.

Bailey rolled her eyes "His office is the room right there, all you need to do is walk there"

Max gave a small thanks to Miranda Bailey and then she walked across the bridge to the Chiefs Office. She reached his door, giving herself a little shake to ease her nerves before knocking of the door, she heard a muffled 'Come In' so she opened the door to see Richard Webber sitting at his desk probably doing paper work.

"Maxine Mallard! How are you doing," Chief said getting up from his chair to give the girl a hug 

Max laughed, patting his back as they hugged "I'm doing well, it's been what almost 5 years since I saw her and Adele?" She said agreeing with him.

Webber pulled away from the hug "It's been that long already, Adele would love to see you, she's always raving about you" He told her smiling, he gestured for her to sit at one of the chairs in front of her desk, which she gladly took.

The young doctor thought about the many times she had dinner with Adele and Richard Webber, she's known since she was a baby but when her family moved to New York she never really got the chance to see either of them.

"Yes, tell her that we can have Dinner some night" Max told the older guy sitting across from her.

"I will, okay let's get into this" he said grabbing the small stack of papers and handing them over to her "I already know I like you and I know you are a fine doctor, so I would like to welcome you to Seattle Grace Hospital"

She blinked in surprise, obviously she was going to say yes but for her she was shocked that it took so little convincing "Wow thank you so much, I swear you won't regret it"

Richard nodded his head, already knowing that we wouldn't, he grabbed a pen handing it to her "Now all you have to do is sign"

Max was having the best day, working with her brother and now being the Head of Pediatric Surgery, and still she wanted to pick up her phone and call Mark but she knew it was not the best idea so she decided to call the next best thing, her best friend Derek.

She heard the sound of her best friend after three rings "Hello Maxine Mallard Head of Pediatric Surgery, to what do I owe the pleasure" He said in a playful manner.

"Oh shut up Shep, you're just jealous that I get to work at this spiffy hospital and you have a lame practice" Max replied back just as playful.

"Okay okay ouch, but seriously how is everything" He asked still worried for the girl.

"I'm uh I'm okay, I just need to get used to not being with him you know but other then that I've been happy, excited to start my new life here" Max said trying to be positive about the situation

"Well you guys have been together since College, these things take time, you're not going to get over him that fast, but I'm glad you're better" He gave her some encouragement "I'll still kick his ass for you" Max laughed at that but as soon as she started laughing she started gagging

"Max, are you okay?" Derek said now concerned.

"Oh yeah I'm good, I've just been throwing up here and there, no big deal" She reassures him, hoping it'll keep his worrying at bay.

"Um I don't want to alarm you but didn't you say that you and Mark were gonna try to start a family, which means no condom, which also means that there's a chance you could be pregnant" He told her slowly trying not to give her a reason to freak out.

"God dammit Shep" Max sighed hanging up the phone, she was in the waiting room so the people around saw her in tears, hoping that she wasn't pregnant and that she just had a minor stomach bug.

"Why are you crying in my waiting room" Max heard the voice of Miranda Bailey and looked up "You know what, never mind don't tell me, I don't care" Max watched Bailey walk off and then got an idea in her head so she called out for her, getting up from the seat and running after her.

"Bailey wait!" She called out from behind, Bailey stopped walking and turned around waiting for Max to speak.

"I know we've just met but I really need a favor" Max told her slightly out of breath, Bailey gave Max a single to finish speaking "I need a pregnancy test"

Bailey sighed turning back around motioning Max to follow her. Bailey put Max in an exam room and gave her a cup to pee in "Pee in it and I'll run the test" Max nodded grabbing the cup and going to the bathroom that was connected.

Once she got some of her urine in the cup she walked out of the bathroom and gave it to Bailey, who was now wearing gloves, "I'll be right back"

Max had been waiting thirty minutes before Bailey opened the door with a neutral expression "Congratulations you're pregnant"

"Son of a bitch"
