Blues for sister someone
Season two episode twenty-three
"God dammit...stupid Mark...stupid Addison...just stupid stupid stupid" Max mumbles to herself As she cleans on the spilt coffee that was on her coat.
"She's still mad about the whole Mark Sloan thing?" Christina whispered to Meredith as they both looked over at a crazed Max.
"Well you try getting knocked up and then dumped and then basically stranded" Meredith whispered back to her friend "Just run if she looks at you"
"I need an Intern, now" Max said to the three interns that were standing right next to her.
"I'm with Bailey" Meredith told the Doctor then walking away very quickly.
"I'm with Mallard" Christina said right after Meredith did.
Max sighed at the two "Karev"
"I don't do vagina, not as a doctor anyway" Alex said talking back to the Doctor who was not in a great mood one bit.
"Oh, great, back talk" Max called out after him, "Actually, I think you would be perfect in pink scrubs, you just bought yourself a case" She gives Alex the patients binders that she had to see today and walks away.
"How are you today?" Derek said turning to walk next to her.
"Mark finds out he has a child, which I didn't know he didn't know, then he leaves again and I know, okay, I know that I shouldn't be mad because I have Levi now but all I can think about is how crushed I was when he didn't show up" She huffed out, why is everyone being so stupid today?
"Right, well have a good day?" Derek said to the girl not really sure how to end the comment.
"Yeah whatever" Max sighed continuing to make her way to the changing room.
"Hello, Wards" Max said smiling to all the children in her patients room, "We're just waiting on your labs, How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling large, large and cow-like" The mother of six, not including the one in her stomach, told the doctor.
"A cow?" Timothy, one of Rose's children says looking up at his mother.
"Mommy is a cow who need a quiet talk with the doctor" Rose says to her husband who quickly complies.
"Hey, guys, who wants ice cream" Chris says which was followed by his children getting excited.
Alex walked in as the group of Wards walked out, "Uh, C.B.C. and chem-7 look fine" The intern says.
Max looks at Rose when the doctor notice the shift in mood, "Rose?"
"Sorry" Rose said sighing "I'm so tired"
"Oh, six kids, thirty-eight weeks pregnant a saint would be tired" Max says giving her a light smile trying to cheer her up.
"Well... I'm no saint" Rose vegans wiping a loose tear "This baby... Joseph... Dr. Mallard, I need him to be my last, and I really seem to be the most fertile woman on the planet.
"Well, if you're interested in alternative forms of birth control, I-" Max began to tell the women her options but she didn't want to hear it.
"No. What I mean is, today, during the c-section, I need you to tie my tubes and I need you to do it without my husband ever knowing" Rose told the doctor with hope written all over face, while Max looked back at her with confusion.
"Rose, you're an adult, he's your husband, he isn't your parent so he can't make these choices for you. You have decided wether not not to tell him" Max replied back, there were to many risks and Max wasn't sure what to do.
"Well, if you charged my insurance, he would see it, any bill you sent, he would see it. I've been saving for this, and I can pay you privately" Rose says trying to convince the doctor to do this.
"So, what you're saying is that you want me to do the surgery and leave no record of it?" Max questioned the patient.
"Mrs. Ward, if you're being abused there are people you can talk to" Alex told her sternly, he couldn't believe that she was asking something like this.
Rose scoffed, "Oh, Chris is- He's the opposite of abusive"
"So if we pull up your medical records, we're not gonna find a bunch of old broken bones or-"
"If you pull up my medical records, you'll find three natural child births, three C-sections, two hospital stays for exhaustion and one for dehydration because I was so busy chasing my kids around I forgot to take a sip of water for three days. I think god understands what I'm going through and I think god will forgive me but Chris- for him religion isn't like a buffet table where you get to chose what you want to take and leave the rest and the pose says no to birth control, so... I need your help" Rose says while she got better situated on her bed and looking at Alex at the times she needed too.
"You don't need out help, your husband is not abusing you, and you don't get to lie to him and blame it on the pope" Alex says harshly while staring at Rose.
Max glares at Alex and points to the door, "I'm sorry Mrs. Ward, I will come back with an ultrasound. Stay rested till then okay?"
The doctor follows Alex out of the room after Rose nods, "Dr. Karev-"
"No offense but I have no interest in obstetrics or gynecology, Dr. Mallard, so if you want to throw me off the case, feel free" Alex says rudely to the Doctor that is basically his boss.
"I understand that you have no interests in this field and you hate me right now for putting you on my service but that does not give you a reason to be a dick to a patient of this hospital, I don't care if you don't agree with her but you will respect her decisions. I may be a board certified Pediatric Surgeon and OB-GYN but I also have a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine. I have people from around the world coming to me for help, so when you can top that, you can run your mouth. Until then you will do your job and you will do it right, at this point that means you will shut up and only answer questions that are easy to answer, I promise you Dr. Karev I have more pull in this hospital then you know" Max told the intern harshly, she wished Addison was on this case, she would love to see her tear Alex a new one but until then Max walked away from the ignorant intern.
Max walked past the research room and saw George and Izzie on the computers while Callie was talking to George, she stopped and stared at Izzie Stevens who was staring at Callie and George, What Max didn't know was of it was out of jealousy or curiosity.
The doctor waited for Callie to exit the room so she could start up a conversation "I hate men, especially ignorant little interns that like to talk back"
Callie laughed "Well I love them, like I really do"
Max looked at her friend, "Wait, you and George?" She put two and two together.
"Yes!" Callie said nodding her head, she was clapping her hands with glee.
"Callie Torres!" Max shouts laughing at how sly she was being, "Oh! Don't forget to move your stuff into my house after work, we don't want the Chief to find out that you've been crashing in the basement" She says to friend before they parted ways.
"Right! I've got it all sorted, I just need to get the box's into your SUV" Callie says to the girl while walking backwards, Max shoots her a thumbs up and then walks away.
"Rose... Seven kids... it's a lot, Are you sure that Chris isn't feeling the same way?" Max asked Rose once they were done with the ultrasound.
"When we were first married, we were so broke that I went on the pill for awhile and Chris stopped taking communion. When he does that, he thinks he's-"
"He thinks he's going to hell" Alex said finishing the sentence "He thinks your both going to hell"
Max glares at Alex and shakes her head in disgust, "The reason we haven't had a baby in four years, is because we abstained for three. I mean, can you imagine not being able to make love to your husband?" Rose tells Alex with emotion in her voice.
"Um, the, uh, pill-" Max began to say but she was cut off by the patient.
"I can't hide the pill. He would find out" Rose tells Max like she already thought everything through.
"If he found out, what, I mean, he won't divorce you, he doesn't believe in it" Alex replies back to Rose with the same attitude he started with, Max turns her head to look at him giving him the eye.
"Do you see the way he's looking at me right now?"
"Dr. Karev was just leaving" Max says grabbing the binder out of his hands so he could get out.
"No, no, no, no. Just...just look at him for a minute" She tells Max so she could better understand why this is the only way, "That look he has on his face, that's how my husband would look at me if he knew about any of this and I can't have my husband look at me like that and I can't have any more babies"
"How's your sponge count, Dr. Karev?" Max asks the intern just to make sure they didn't leave anything inside.
"They're all accounted for, but I see a bleeder here" Alex replies back looking at the open stomach.
"It's small. Get the movie and cauterize it"
"All right, got it"
"That's good, uh, there's a little bleeding near the tube here, can you hand be a bovie, Dr. Karev?" Max asks looking up at Alex for a second.
"I don't see any abdominal bleeding" Alex replies back after he looks at the tube.
"I didn't realize that you were the surgeon here, which makes me the ignorant intern. No... I forgot, I'm the surgeon and you're the ignorant intern, now hand me the bovie" Max says to Alex sticking her hand out for the tool, "Give me the bovie, Dr. Karev"
"Hey there, Joseph. Welcome to the world" Max says to the new born smiling at his cute little face.
"Rose, before we bring your family in to see you, I wanted to let you know that there was a complication with your surgery. We had some unexpected bleeding that cause damage to both Fallopian tubes" Max says softly to the patient.
"So you're saying..." Rose asks hoping that it was true.
"You won't be able to have any more children"
"Thank you, Dr. Mallard" Rose whispers with tears threatening to fall.
"Like I said, it was a complication"
"I understand"
Max leaves the room with Alex following right after, "A complication, that what you're calling it?"
"That's what it was" Max says simply continuing to walk away from the patients room.
"Really? Cause I'm that case, it's on of the most bizarre obstetric complications in history"
Max turns around to face Alex, "She is our patient, our concern is to make her happy and do what she asks, not her family or her husband"
Alex gives her a glare and walks away leaving Max to stand there by herself. She really hated interns.
"Richard, we have to talk about Alex Karev, his attitude today toward me and the patient was horrible, and I know he's talented but that shouldn't overrule his bed side manner" Max said walking up to her uncle.
"Max..." He begins to say but stops to make sure nobody could hear, he then grabs her shoulder and brings her closer to the conference room, "You have a bigger problem today then Alex Karev" They both look into the window and see Chris Ward talking with the hospitals attorney, "Mr. Ward has been speaking with our attorney regarding his wife's surgery, now I read your chart. I read the nurses notes, now can you explain to me what kind of complications from a C-Section leads to the severing of both Fallopian tubes?"
Max stares at the upset man and sighs, "She asked me too, Richard, she told me that her husband wouldn't allow her to get on the pill and she already has seven children, all she wanted was for it to stop and I helped, I just didn't know it would end like this"
"Well, since you didn't know, our hospital is facing a law suit and it's on your hands, I expected more from you, Max" Richard walks away in a huff not believing his niece could do something so irrational.
Max walks into Roses room to check up on her, "How are you feeling?"
"Little sore" Rose replies looking down at her new born baby.
"That's to be expected" Max says looking down at that precious baby face, she looks back up at Rose and clears her throat to get her attention.
"I'm sorry I told Chris about the complication. I just... I just thought he should know that Joseph would be our last so he could savor it. I didn't know he was going to do this" Rose tells Max, honest about her intentions.
"Rose... I need you to tell him that you asked me to tie your tubes"
"For you, it just insurance and you don't even have to pay. For me, it's my marriage. It's my family"
"It's my career Rose, it's my reputation, and I may not have seven kids but I do have a family, I have a seven year old daughter and a father in an Alzheimer's home, which I pay for, so it's not just about me and my career it's about the people I love because this will notch me down" Max tells the patient looking at her expectingly.
"You're the best, people come from all over the country to see you that won't change. I can't tell him" Max starts to walk away after hearing this "Dr. Mallard, I-I'm so sorry because I am so grateful to you but I can't tell him"
Max shakes her head and walks out of the room leaving Rose alone with her baby.
Max has given Callie the keys to her car awhile ago so that she could put the boxes in while Max was still working so when Max walked out of the hospital with Maeve then care was filled with boxes.
"Are you ready?" Max asks Callie who was shutting the trunk.
"Hell yeah, I mean living in the basement was pretty cool but I'm excited to be living in an actual home" Callie replies back throwing the keys at Max and taking Maeve so she could put her into the car, which made Max give her a thank you nod.
"Good! And George just lives across the street" Max tell the girl with a wiggle of the eyebrows, Callie laughed at that, "Are you ready for some sleepovers with aunt Callie?" Max turned around and asks her daughter.
"Oh yeah" Maeve says dancing in her seat, Max and Callie laugh at the seven year old.
Max parked her car into her garage and got out, opening Maeve's door and unbuckling her, picking up the sleeping seven year old and then shutting the car door.
"You can just grab the stuff you need for tonight, I've washed the sheets for the guest room and made the bed so all you need is a tooth brush and your clothes" Max tells her friend and then walks up the stairs to her house so she could put her daughter to bed.
"God you are such a life saver, I don't know what I would do without you" Callie says opening the back end of the SUV and getting the box of clothes and her toothbrush.
"Probably be homeless and smelly but what do I know" Max calls back to the person behind her.
Max walks up the stairs in her house and turns into her daughters room, she puts her sleeping daughter on the bed then walks to grab some jammies to put on her, then tucks her into her bed giving her a good nights kiss.
She walks back downstairs just in case Callie need anything else, "Callie? If you need anything I'll be in the kitchen making food"
"Whatcha makin?" Callie asks popping her head into the kitchen.
"Probably Pizza Rolls, there my savor when I don't come home until late" Max replies setting the oven to 450 then getting a sheet pan.
"I'll have some too if it's no big deal" Callie tells her friend as she was pouring some Pizza Rolls onto the pan.
"Of course it's no biggie"
Max heard Callie's footsteps going up the stairs and sighs, she was not having a good day from the start and with Alex and then Rose her bad day intensified, she walks over to her island chairs and sits down putting her hands on her head letting her emotions get the best of her.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Callie asks walking into the kitchen again and sits down on the chair next to Max.
"I'm stupid and sad, usual stuff" Max replied back with a shrug of her shoulders.
"That's not usual stuff, Max. Are you still down from the whole Mark thing?" Callie asks rubbing Max on the back for comfort.
"I mean how stupid could one person be?" Max begins looking up at her friend, "When Mark came into town, a little part of me wanted it to be me, and I know I suck and I know that if I let myself I could really fall in love with Levi but it was hard seeing Mark again because the memories followed, I mean I dated the guy for seven years!"
"I know you did sweetie, but not everyone is the same person you remember, sometimes they changes and sometimes it's not for the better, you just have to remember who you are and why you are here and things will get better" Callie says sighing at the state her best friend was in "You don't need Mark to make you feel complete, you have a wonderful, amazing daughter, who you raise by yourself may I add, and you are the Chief of your own wing at the hospital, you are great and maybe a little all over the place but you don't deserve to feel like you're worthless especially to a man that sucks"
Max laughed at the last part and nodded her head, "Thank you, I'm really glad you came to Seattle Grace and I'm really happy you're my best friend" She gives her friend a hug, letting go when she hears her oven beep.
Eating junk food with your best friend and talking about how crazy life gets is better then what Max could ever ask for.

Eeeeee
I'm going to do a chapter that has nothing to with the actual Greys storylines and then a time jump probably.
LEVI OR MARK????
I know this is like becoming an anti Mark Sloan book but that's how Max feels, Anti Mark Sloan. Just give her a little more time. Getting over a seven year relationship isn't easy especially when there's a kid involved.
