Chapter 1- The application
"Yep, this is it, I'm done for," Y/n spoke, laying restlessly at 3:00 pm in the empty bath of their apartment room's bland bathroom. They'd just lost their previous job, and were rapidly falling into a deep hole of debt, their landlord refusing to lend them money until they could sort themselves out. Y/n had been trying desperately to find a replacement, but was unsuccessful.
"Oh come on," They muttered, "I might as well keep on looking..."
They heaved themselves out of the bath and stumbled to their bed, where their cheap nokia-ass laptop was left. They slumped down on the bed lazily, and continued to look through job applications on a dodgy site. They sighed deeply as they kept on scrolling aimlessly.
Suddenly, a job came up that somehow interested Y/n. They clicked on the link to the website, and were greeted by a cheaply made, outdated web page with an odd informational video. They didn't bother with the video however, and skipped onto the job information.
'Become a councillor at Camp Campbell! Gain useful skills and help out with the children as you explore the vast wilderness around. Apply today!'
Something about this seemed... sketchy. But intriguing. Y/n phoned the number below but with slight caution, and placed the phone on speaker whilst continuing to scroll the web page. Quickly, a tired female voice could be heard from the receiving end of the phone.
"Hello, you're speaking to Gwen from Camp Campbell, how can I help you?" The voice spoke, her speech slightly slurred.
"Oh, hello, I'm applying to become a counsellor-" Y/n began to speak, but was cut off.
"Oh thank fuck, we've been waiting for an applicant for so damn long. So, your name?"
"Y/n L/n,"
"Age?"
"22"
"Ok... any qualifications?"
"I don't think so-"
"Ok, perfect. If you come over in an hour or two then I'll sort the rest of your application out and get you working in no time. See you soon!"
Gwen held up before Y/n could even respond to anything that had just happened. But they realised, they'd gotten a job almost as soon as they'd lost one! Y/n's mood almost instantly changed, and they rushed to pull on their walking boots and coat as they tried to remember the location for Camp Campbell...
Almost an hour later, Y/n was driving down the rural road towards the camp in their old Jeep Wrangler, which pretty much was worth barely anything since it was close to falling apart. Soon the rusted sign for Camp Campbell was visible, and Y/n took the required turning, arriving in a small driveway in front of a wooden cabin. Outside stood a young woman, who they assumed to be Gwen, and a couple of kids who were around 10-11 years old. Y/n sighed, before stepping out of their car.
'Welp, this was quick, but here I am. At the start of my new adventure as camp counsellor of this odd place,' Y/n thought, walking quickly towards the group.
'Yeah, this'll be fun... I hope...'
