BLAKE DOESN'T HESITATE. He's the first the rise to his feet and run into the burning barn, straight for the plane. Will and Juliana tail behind him.

The pilot is on fire, and screaming out in pain. Juliana steps back, and lets the two pull him out. They drag him away from the destruction, his body looking horrible.

-"Meine beine! Meine beine! Hilf mir! Hilf mir!" The enemy pilot yells. All three understood this to be a cry for "help".

He continues to speak in his language. The trio pick up certain words here and there, but don't understand him fully. One word that they did catch on, however, was water.

The two younger ones turn to Schofield, unsure of what to do.

-"We should put him out of his misery." Will's says in a low voice.

-"That would be the best idea," Juliana seconds this, nodding her head in full agreement.

-"No. Get him some water. He needs
water. Juliana, some medical attention." Blake shakes his head. Juliana turns to him. Their gaze holds and she shakes her head.

-"You don't have to be this good." She says quickly. Schofield has already ran off for the water pump, his back to the other three.

Blake doesn't answer but turns back to the pilot. He gently cradles his head on his knees. The pilot struggles, terrified and in pain.

-"It's alright, you're alright. Stay still. Stay still..." Blake says soothingly to the pilot, in hopes of calming him down. The German continues to ramble on his his foreign tongue.

Juliana's hands tremble horribly as she pulls her bag over her head. She looks through it, trying to find the right thing to give the wounded one. She's on Blake's right, and her back is to him.

"Stop...Stop!" Blake cries out suddenly. Juliana whips her head around immediately, to see a bloody knife in the pilots hand, and Blake's abdomen, bleeding.

-"No!" She screams, jumping into the German with all her might. She knocks the knife out of his hand and tries to choke him. Tears quickly fill her eyes, and they blur her vision. Next thing she knew, she was being thrown harshly off of him, and she land. Her back hits the ground next to him. She lies still, too stunted to move. The pilot grabs the knife and raises it above her.

After Schofield sees Blake's bloody wound, he shakes his head in disbelief. He then sees Juliana struggling, and runs to her aid.

-"No, no, no!" He cries running towards the scene. He fires two shots into the pilot, killing him instantly. He rushes to her side and helps her stand to her feet.

-"Tom," she mumbles with urgency. Will nods and they hurry to his side.

Blake is looking down at his own bloody hands.
He's in a state of shock, and fear. He gets to his feet, breathing heavy. Clutching his wound as he staggers away from the pilot's body.

-"Oh no. Oh no." He mutters, his eyes are wide and full of fear. Juliana reaches into her bag and pulls out a large bandage. She was determined to keep him alive.

-"We've got to stop the bleeding," Speaks the nurse. She chokes on a sob that threatens to escape her throat. She breathes heavily while walking towards him.
Schofield watches the two, too scared to move.
Blood is seeping through Tom's tunic. He drops to his knees. He looks down at his own blood and sobs.

-"Oh no, please, no." He yells. Tears fill Juliana's eyes while watching him.

She moves forward, and Will does the same just as Tom drops down to the ground.
She covers the wound with the bandage, and Will holds onto Tom's hand. She presses it hard into him, trying to stem the blood. He shouts out in pain.

"Stop it. Stop it!" He cries, tears streaming down his face. Juliana cries with him, except her tears fall silently.

-"It's alright, it's going to be alright. We're going to stand up." Will calms him, his voice quivering. His heart aches as he watches Tom and Juliana cry.

He wraps his hands around Tom's webbing. Juliana steps aside, and puts her hands out for extra support if needed.

-"Yes. Yes." Tom says through sniffles.

Tom sets his feet, and Will wrenches him up. The boy screams in agony. His cries causing Juliana to cry even more.

-"No! I can't. I can't." He weeps bitterly as Will drops back down.

Tom is pale, blood already grey. The truth crushes the young nurse even more as she realizes that, he's dying.

They, Will and Tom, go back and forth. Will trying to convince Tom that he'll find help. He looks at Juliana, who was still holding her hand over his wound and crying quietly.

He speaks with his eyes to her, asking, begging her to know if he could be saved. She breaks down into more tears, and he understood immediately. He refuses to believe this.

-"We can't, we have to go together, all three of us." He says, his voice unsteady. Desperation can be seen in his eyes.

"We're going to get up. We're going to get up." Before Juliana can stop him, Will moves behind Tom, grabs him under his arms. He lifts Tom, but Tom can't support his own weight, and his legs become weak and stiff.

-"Stop, please! Stop!" Tom begs, his sobs echoing in Juliana's mind as she holds the bandage over his wound.

Will holds him up again, dragging him. Juliana's eyes go wide and more blood seeps through the bandage, dirtying her hands even more.
-"Put me down! Put me down, please! Put me down!" Tom screams at Will, his motions wild.

-"Just stop!" Juliana cries, for she hated every single minute of this.

They fall backwards, and Will moves to face Tom. He's on his right, and Juliana, to his left. Tom's whole face is colorless now. His wound producing even more blood.

Will tries to convince him that they must keep moving. He reminds him of his brother. He also reminds him of the promise he made.

-"You can start on without me. I'll catch up."

Now Juliana shakes her head at these words.
-"You can't stay here. We have to move, alright? We have to move." she says, trying her best to keep her voice calm.

-"Come on. Come on. That's it. Come on, come on...
Will tries to lift Tom off the ground. He howls out in pain, horrifying Juliana. They drop instantly.

Tom beings to struggle even more, and his breathing becomes hard for him. Juliana wipes the dirt from his face with another cloth, and changes out the bloody bandage.

-"You'll recognise him. Looks like me...a bit older." Tom speaks suddenly. Will and Juliana share an alarmed expression. He shouldn't be talking like that.

"I've been hit... What was it?"

Will looks down at him, unsure of how to answer. He looks at the nurse, who's no longer crying, but looking at Tom with regret in her eyes.

-"You were stabbed." He answers uneasily.

Blake looks surprised. He feels around for it his wound, and his hand lands on Will's and Juliana's. They had their's there to hold the blood in.

-"Am I dying?"

A loud sob threatens to leave Juliana's throat at these words. She takes silent deep breaths to calm herself. She had to stay strong, for Tom.ย

-"Yes, I think you are." Will answers him bravely. He holds Tom close for the time being.

-"Will you write to my mum for me?"

-"I will."

-"Tell her I wasn't scared."

-"Anything else?" Juliana adds, after all three grasp onto each others hands over Tom's wound. They hold on for fear life, daring not to let go.

-"I love them... I wish that... I wish..."

Death is slowly starting to consume Tom as he lies still. Will and Juliana share a sad gaze as they hold Tom close to them.

"Talk to me." Tom begs, his breathing becoming harder for him now.

"Tell me you know the way."

Will answers, clearly his throat and speaking calmly, although he's tense, and his eyes are glazed over.
-"I know the way. I'm going to head
south east until I hit Ecoust. I'll pass through the town and out to the east, all the way to Croisilles Wood.

-"It'll be dark by then." Tom whispers faintly.

This time, Juliana speaks,

-"That won't bother us... I'll find the second, we'll give them the message, and then I'll find your brother. Just like you, a little older..."

-"Jules," Tom interrupts her quickly, he chest heaves up and down slowly as does his best to form these words.

"thank you for being the older sister I never had."

Tears stream down her face at this. She covers her mouth with her clean hand, to hold back a sob. She then removes it, and places it on top of Tom's bloodily hand.

-"Of course my boy, of course."

There was no response, for Tom lied still, no longer breathing. His soul had departed from his body, leaving him completely lifeless.

Without the lines of worry or agony on his face Blake looks very young, too young to die a horrible death.

It breaks Will's heart to hear Juliana's cries. He holds onto Tom, cradling his head.
It takes her a moment to recover, and she sighs deeply. Will has already taken the message for the second from Tom's, pocket.

Together, they stripe Tom of his possessions. Juliana takes the rings from his fingers, and Will takes his identity tag. He also places the photograph he found of Tom's family, face down on his heart.

They look around for a moment, finding long grass near the murky pond. Together, they rise, lifting Tom's body, the experience different this time.

Juliana's mind thinks back to the first time she heard a quote that made her sad. As she helped Will hold up Tom's body, she repeats it to herself over, and over.

"Good people are like candles, they burn themselves up to give others light."
