"It's a dome. We're at the edge of the arena." Katniss spoke, climbing down from the tree and swinging her bow over her back again. "We couldn't find any signs of fresh water."
"It's gonna get dark soon." Zoya looked up at the sky, looking to Peeta.
"We'll be safe with our backs protected. We should set up camp." Finnick confirmed, agreeing with Zoya.
"Yeah, and Peeta should rest after, you know, rising back from the dead on us." Zoya crack a grin, slapping him in the arm as Peeta had to crack a little smile at her joking ability when it was clear she'd been miserable.
"I can take first watch." Finnick nodded his head.
Katniss mearly laughed. "Not a chance."
He sat up better, stabbing his trident into the ground. "Honey, that thing I did back there for Peeta? That was called saving his life. If I wanted to kill either of you, I would've done it by now."
"Hey." Zoya warned him with a raise of her brows. "I'll take first watch with you."
She looked to Katniss in questioning, getting a nod in confirmation.
Katniss didn't end of sleeping either, the trio wide awake while Peeta and Mags rested. Zoya watched him, making sure his chest continued to rise and fall, showing his breathing patterns. Finnick spoke softly. "How's Peeta?"
Zoya looked to Katniss, letting her take this one. "He's okay. I think. Just dehydrated like the rest of us."
"You'd think out lovely blonde would gift us something." Zoya spoke, her head against the tree as her chest rose and fell.
Finnick knew to protect her with as much pity as Zoya could afford. "Thinking of Archer?"
Zoya met his eye, and she was greatful he remembered to say something, because she had forgotten the second she got into the arena. "All the time."
The anthem rung in the sky, Peeta woke with a minor gasp. The five looked up, seeing the broadcasted faces of the dead tributes. Zoya glanced away when she saw the ones she'd killed. She was thankful to see Joanna had made it out alive. Katniss spoke up when the anthem ended. "Eight."
Then, they heard it.
Zoya looked up, trying to identify where the parachute was coming from. It landed a few feet away, Katniss running to it quickly as the others followed. She read the little note. "Drink up."
"What is it?" Finnick looked in questioning.
"It's from Haymitch." Katniss said, Zoya and Peeta leaned on each other slightly as they all looked at the piece of metal. Zoya held the parachute in her hands. "I think it's a spiel."
"Let me see." Zoya wiggled her fingers, Katniss placing it in her hands. Zoya felt it in her palm. "It's not made of copper. If it wasn't something we can drink from, it would likely be copper."
Katniss took it back, using a rock to hammer it into one of the near by trees. They all nearly held their breaths, watching in pure hopefulness as the spiel simple stared back at them a moment. Katniss gasped in joy as a slow water trail fell from it, leaning over and taking what she could.
"Get some water. Get some water." Finnick encouraged quickly, Zoya shoving Peeta down some as he got some, moving as Zoya did the same before backing up, Finnick taking her spot. "Let me get a leaf."
Katniss went back quickly, splashing what she could on her face. Zoya bent down, letting Katniss throw water onto her face as well. She rubbed Finnicks back as he got some in a leaf for Mags, heading her way when it was filled. Zoya laughed, looking up at Peeta as she held her hand out, letting his weakly high five her.
Zoya had managed to fall asleep after that, trusting Peeta to keep watch. She hadn't been out long before a loud thump was echoing in the air, sitting up quickly as it came again, and again, and again, she lost count. Zoyas eyes shifted toward Katniss. "I counted 12."
"Midnight?" Finnick suggested.
"A warning maybe." Zoya tried to find more logical answers. "Four more dead, equaling twelve?"
"Or the number of districts." the Everdeen girl agreed. Peeta looked to Zoya, getting a little nod. Lightening struck high in the air, right over the tallest tree over the jungle.
Peeta subtle "rolled over in his sleep" to lay next to Zoya. He knew she hadn't fallen asleep quick after that, hoping she could sense he was there. Her finger tips grazed along his fingers that were hidden beneath the two of their arms. They did fall asleep after that, finally, that was.
Though, like before, neither got much time in before a loud shriek echoed through the air. Katniss cried out, clutching her hand. "Run! Run! The fog is poison!"
Zoya noticed the large wave of fog not too far from them. She pulled Katniss to her feet, making sure Peeta was close behind while Finnick got Mags on his back. The four ran fast on their feet. Finnick yelled for her. "Where are you leading us?"
"The beach isn't far!" Zoya called, leading the group as they all continued to follow after her. Zoya turned, letting Katniss run before her. "Just keep going forward!"
Katniss listened, giving Zoya time to find if there had been an opening to the fog anywhere. Peeta pulled her by the arm to get her to run quicker, taking off once again with Mags and Finnick running a few feet on the right of the trio. It was coming at them from the right, each dodging it and darting toward the left, well off the track Zoya tried to lead them down.
The fog corner them, looking for a way out, only one being available as they ran toward it before the fog circled off. Katniss fell, making Peeta turn back to try and grab her, crying out as the fog burnt his skin. It caught Zoyas attention, looking over in a panic. "Peeta!"
She ran back, pulling him as he pulled Katniss. Zoya lost her footing, hitting the ground as fire like burning hit her back. A cry left her lips, trying to get up, the fog glossing over her eyes as it went blurry. "Zoya!"
"I can't see!" she yelled, feeling two arms wrap around her and trying to lead her away, but Zoya was struggling now that she was blinded. Peeta was struggling to stay up on his own, falling over as Zoya went with him. Katniss turned back. "Zoya! Peeta!"
Finnick yelled in pain from feet away, Zoya turning toward the sound, only being met with more pain in the side of her face. She heard Katniss yell out hers and Peeta name, then Zoya felt the pain become too unbearable, passing out due to it.
Zoya woke with even worse pain, feeling her body being dipped in water. Finnick was holding her, it was clear of that as he rubbed the welps free of her face. Despite that, she still couldn't see. "My eyes! I can't see anything! I can't see anything!"
Panic raced through every inch of her body, because being blind during the games was easily the worst thing that couldn't happen. Finnick held her head. "Put your head under the water. It helps, it helps."
Zoya braced herself, dipping her head under the water and opening her eyes. She screamed, muffled, causing the bubbles of water to float upwards. But, slowly, after a few seconds, her vision was coming back.
