TOM RIDDLE
A feeling of disgust flows through my veins at the sight of the amount of people on this platform. It is ridiculous how these filthy mudbloods think they are worthy of attending this school.
ย ย ย I couldn't have boarded the Express sooner after witnessing sobbing parents waving goodbye to their precious child/children. With that disgust lingering in my veins, I occupy the first and the best compartment I came across. From the window seat, I waited for my companions to join.
Companions is an odd word, yet friends is even worse word to call these students since they are in fact not his friends. Knights is a better word to describe this group of companions.
ย ย ย Minutes passed as a few of my Knights enter the compartment. Knights like Antonin Dolohov, Avery, Tiernan Lestrange, Eloise Bones, Severus Snape, Lydia Lochan, and Georgina Havilliard. They all courteously nod in my direction before sitting down. It sends a satisfied jolt down my spine as the corner of my mouth twitches in somewhat called smirk.
The train has been on its way to Scotland for quite some time now. I take a glance at my pocket watch, noticing it is time for the prefect meeting. I rise to my feet and without a word I head to the door.
ย ย ย "Where are you going?" Dolohov questions.
ย ย ย "He is a prefect," Lydia mentions.
ย ย ย "He has duties," Avery says, however, his tone is set on mockery. I halt at the door and glance over my shoulder. My eyes find Avery's and I watch him visibly tense. The smile melts away like snow in the burning sun.
ย ย ย "Perhaps you should be focussing on this year to pass your OWL exams instead of clowning," I speak calmly. I arch an eyebrow, tilting my head for a brief moment before leaving the compartment.
The compartment for prefects is slightly larger, yet empty. I choose seat at the window. I take a look at the view, only to sink into my thoughts. I think of last year and those dreams shot through my mind. These dreams which included this girl. I fail to retrieve the image of her face because that image has begun to fade.
ย ย ย "That was everything but necessary, Lils." My thoughts are interrupted by a girl's voice. "We are right on time, see? We are among the first students to be here." I slowly shift my eyes to the two girls, only to roll my eyes away from the scene. The next thing I knew I felt a pair of eyes on me, as if she were studying me.
ย ย ย From the corner of my eye, I see her eyes upon me. Curiosity got the better of me and I averted my eyes once she shifted her eyes away. My eyes fall upon a girl with an eagle crest on her robes. A girl with brown hair and dark eyes. My eyes shift to her rather sharp cheekbones. It causes her face to look mature and confident. Dominant even.
ย ย ย She seems familiar...
ย ย ย It is then that I notice another pair of eyes fixed in my direction. I managed to tear my eyes off her to look at the boy next to her. My eyes flicker to a lion crest on his chest before meeting his stare. He fails to hold my hold stare and averts his gaze. Pathetic. From the corner of my eye, I watch the Ravenclaw lean closer to the Gryffindor and she whispers something in his ear.
I grow bored of them and glance at the students and professors at the front.
However, hearing them talk is even worse. The informative part was useful, but their experiences were ridiculous. I kept my eyes fixed on them, but I wandered into my thoughts.
Only for them to be interrupted. Not by any voices, but by a pair of eyes. I assume it is that Ravenclaw. Do not question how, I just know. My eyes flicker in her direction, which results in meeting her stare. I watch her eyebrows furrow as if she is sunken into her thoughts. I felt a small curiosity about the content of her thoughts, which is odd. I never care about someone else's opinion, however, she seems to outdo it.
ย ย ย Until then, I get pulled back into reality by a small kick against my foot. I watch her mouth open, muttering some apologise I can't hear properly. She held my gaze, while one other usually succumbs of intimidation. She doesn't. I haven't decided whether I grew bored of her or not, I avert my eyes to the people in front.
ย ย ย This talk went on and one, never coming to an end.
After what felt like an eternity, we are finally allowed to leave. Students rise to their feet and leave. I watch them leave as I hear one certain question.
ย ย ย "Luna, are you coming?"
ย ย ย Luna.
ย ย ย Her name is Luna. Luna. Her name echoes through my mind. I watch her jump to her feet and I shift my gaze to the landscapes.
Luna.
I feel her eyes resting on me. I fail to resist the urge to look at her and I meet her eyes. It is only for a brief moment before she leaves the compartment. I sit alone in the compartment, thinking why the hell my mind is set on this girl.
Luna.
ย ย ย "Merlin's beard," I groan before leaving the compartment. I head to my compartment, paying not so much interest in other compartment. I happen to look to my right side and my eyes settle on the girl I saw earlier.
ย ย ย Luna.
ย ย ย I watch her eyes flicker to mine and we hold brief eye contact. I roll my eyes away and stride over to my compartment.
The cabin falls silent as I enter. I feel every pair of eyes upon me as I walk to my seat at the window. My attention is drawn to the landscape as my thoughts unwillingly wander to the girl.
Luna.
''What prefect duties do you have?'' I hear Severus' voice echoing through my ear, pulling me back into reality. I avert my gaze from the view and glance to my right.
ย ย ย ''I will be guiding the first years to the common room,'' I say with a hint of boredom. ''I will take patrols during the night and I am allowed to send students to detention. I may take and reward house points.'' Severus raises his eyebrows and tilts his head.
ย ย ย ''Don't get me wrong,'' Severus starts cautiously. ''But you don't seem to enjoy this position.'' I arch an eyebrow and I tilt my head downwards, looking at him through my eyelashes.
ย ย ย ''I have not chosen for this position,'' I answer flatly. ''It is handed over to me. I received the letter and it came with this prefect badge.'' My hand gestures to the metal pin on my chest.
ย ย ย ''You aren't the only prefect for our house, right?'' he questions. I shake my head, raising my head. ''No, I believe she is called Morrigan McCoy. She didn't say a word to me and I didn't expect her to.'' I watch Severus nod, understanding why nobody would walk up to me and say a word.
ย ย ย ''You are a perfect student, which is why you are chosen,'' Regulus comments. My eyes shift from Severus to Regulus. Sirius Black's younger brother. The one that actually got sorted into Slytherin. I take a breath, remaining silent. Professor Slughorn must have insisted on Professor Dumbledore.
Luna.
The Hogwarts Express halts, notifying us that we have arrived. I send the others away as I stay to check the wagon. I clasp my hands behind my back as I stroll through the wagon.
I continue to the next wagon only to see a Ravenclaw girl walking out of a compartment. Merlin's beard. Why? As if she could sense me, she turned and my eyes met hers.
ย ย ย "Oh, hi," she smiles. "I didn't see you there." I watch her fiddle with her ring as I probably need to say something to her. Fine.
ย ย ย "I just walked in," I reply flatly. I take a look at the compartments before turning to Luna. "Are you finished in here?" She takes another look in a compartment before looking me in the eyes once again.
Luna.
ย ย ย "Yes, I'm done." I walk toward her and gesture for her to walk. She nods, turns, and walks in front of me. She exits the train as I follow her. We silently walk next to each other toward the carriages, pulled by Thestrals. I watch her walk up to the Thestrals and she actually caresses their noses. She can see them. That same Gryffindor walks up to her and lays his hands on her shoulders. I roll my eyes before I enter the carriage.
Not moments later, she, the Gryffindors, and the other prefects join the carriage. I sit in the corner. I take a glance at my left and see the brown hair of the Ravenclaw. I shift my gaze forward, only for McCoy to look away.
Us prefects are the sign that every students is in the Great Hall. I take a seat at the Slytherin table and keenly watch which students get sorted into Slytherin. One that I might want as a follower.
After the ceremony, Professor Dumbledore held a welcome speech before opening the very first diner. Chatter breaks out while I glance around before actually eating myself.
Luna.
I take another look around, catching myself on searching the Ravenclaw table. I mentally scold myself and force myself to take my thoughts off of her.
ย ย ย After dinner, Professor Dumbledore announces the prefects to stand at the giant doors for the first-years to follow. I head to the door while Morrigan silently walks by my side. I clasp my hands behind my back as I halt before the doors. Once they are all gathered, we head down to the dungeons.
"You are first-years," I start. "You are nobodies. You need to find your way around the school. Tomorrow's the first school day and you will receive your schedule at breakfast." We arrive common room.
"The Slytherin common room has separate dormitories, meaning it has no use trying to sneak in. Besides that, it has a common room for all students to be in. The password you will need a password: Pure-blood and don't forget that."
"Before you think it is funny to clown around, you are all responsible for the house points. Those points will be rewarded or taken. It is a competition for the entire year, don't mess it up," I speak, raising my eyebrow. I watch the fear in the eyes as I continue to speak.
"At last, my name is Tom Riddle and this is Morrigan McCoy. Questions?" All students shake their heads, too scared to question me something. I send a glance at Ashlynn, who simply stands beside me.
"Go inside and behave."
I head up the stairs, only to be met by my companions in the bedroom. Antonin must have noticed my presence as he questioned whether I scared the new students. I couldn't help but smirk in a devious way.
Of course.
"They were shaking in their robes," I reply. I take off my robes and loosen my tie. I open my trunk to grab my writing book before sitting on the bed. I started writing about the first day of school before writing a paragraph about the Ravenclaw, Luna. I hoped it would take my mind off her. After placing the last dot in my sentence, I started writing my plan of finding out about Horcruxes.
Luna.
The next morning, I received my schedule from Professor Slughorn. "Tom m'boy, it is good to see you," he beams, I send him a forced smile. "And I see you made it to prefect." He says it in a way that he has played a role in deciding.
ย ย ย "I am honored to have this position," I smile in a fake way. Professor Slughorn beams another smile as he continues to walk.
ย ย ย "Oh, before I forget," he exclaims, striding back to me. "Hufflepuff has switched classes with Ravenclaw." I tilt my head while I arch an eyebrow.
ย ย ย "Good to know."
ย ย ย About bloody time.
I study my schedule and mentally take a sigh as I see what my first class of the year is... Defence Against the Dark Arts, taught by Professor Dumbledore. I gather my stuff before heading towards the classroom. I take a seat in the back, a place where I can maintain the overview.
ย ย ย I watch Luna enter the classroom and she isn't a second present before her eyes find mine. As if she could sense me.
ย ย ย As if she could sense me.
ย ย ย An intriguing thought matching with an intriguing lady. She takes a seat on the other side of the classroom. Ravenclaw students on the one side, Slytherin students on the other side.
Professor Dumbledore leans against his desk, his arms crossed over his chest as he watches every student enter his class with a small smile. My eyes gaze around the room, eventually lingering on Luna. Creases form on my forehead. Avert your eyes. Just before I intend to look away, her eyes meet mine.
ย ย ย "She is pretty, isn't she?" Tiernan's voice causes me to avert my gaze. Pretty? The creases in my forehead don't fade.
"Pretty?" I question if that term is new to me. He dares to chuckle.
"The Ravenclaw girl," he continues. Luna? Pretty? My eyebrows furrow for a moment before shaking my head.
"Whatever." I roll my eyes and clench my jaw.
Luna. Pretty.
"Good morning, fifth-years," Dumbledore smiles. "As your head of your house has already informed you, you have switched having classes." I watch his eyes scan every student, noticing that his eyes linger on mine.
ย ย ย "It is why I have decided to mix you," he smiles.
By the Wyrd.
The rest of the class groans in disappointment. Professor Dumbledore flicks his wand and the papers float through the air. The schedule gently lands on my desk.
ย ย ย "Let's switch." I take a look at the schedule, searching for my name. Tom Riddle. I need to move two rows forward. Students start to grab their bags and move to their new designated seats.
Vivian Lupin.
Luna.
"Vivian Lupin," I whisper before reaching for my bag. I set my bag aside and took a seat. I turn toward the classroom, my eyes searching for Vivian Lupin.
ย ย ย My eyebrow furrows as I notice Luna walking toward me. I take a glance at the paper, searching for a person named Luna. There is no Ravenclaw named Luna. She puts down her bag and takes the seat next to me.
Vivian.
Not Luna. Vivian.
ย ย ย "Are you well?" she questions. Her expression shows concern. Creases fade from my forehead.
This is Vivian. Not Luna.
ย ย ย "Exceptionally."
Vivian.
