Vivian Lupin sinks as comfortably as possible against the tree. Her view over the Black Lake is peaceful to her mind. The open book rests in her lap as she drifts away into her thoughts. Her mind jumps from thought to thought. From being a Hogwarts student to a werewolf. From a fourth year to having a mate. Once her thoughts settle on the mating subject, the book seems to burn in her lap.
ย ย ย Vivian draws her attention to the book about mysterious creatures. One said a werewolf can discover their mate when they are at the age of sixteen. The signs of it are vaguely described, meaning Vivian has zero idea how she finds her potential mate.
ย ย ย She closes the book, rests her head against the stem of the tree, and closes her eyes. Her senses sharpen once her sight sense is shut off. A familiar scent reaches her nose, one of chocolate and books. A low-high whistle is followed, confirming her suspicions. The corner of her mouth twitches before she whistles the opposite tune of his.
ย ย ย ''There you are,'' Remus sighs, walking up to the tree. ''We couldn't find you anywhere.'' Vivian pulls her knees to her chest. pressing the book gently against her chest.
ย ย ย ''You did find me,'' Vivian speaks with amusement. Her brother rolls his eyes in annoyance. ''However, why the hunt for me?''
ย ย ย ''They simply wanted to spend the time before we board the train,'' Remus reasons. ''And we made a bet to whoever found you first get something from the trolly by choice.'' Vivian smiles at the fact that they made a bet. Of course, they made a bet.
"Let me guess, you will get some chocolate frogs from the trolly?" Vivian guessed flawlessly. Remus smiled and shrugged.
''Perhaps I choose to go rogue,'' he jokes while laughing. A chuckle ripples from Vivian's throat.
''I will meet you in the courtyard,'' Vivian then says. Remus nods and takes his leave. She watches her brother walk away before fixing her gaze to the lake. The thought of her friends searching for her makes her chuckle, especially since they made a bet about it.
''Bunch of idiots,'' she chuckles. Yet, they are her idiots. She rises to her feet, clutching the book to her chest. She heads to the courtyard, walking behind a group of five boys. A scent of cologne invades her nostrils. The strong scent caught her off guard for a moment but she brushed it off, thinking it was from the boys in front of her.
"There you are," Sirius laughs. "I've been looking for you." Vivian sends a smile in his direction before she sits next to him. Sirius puts an arm around his friend and pulls her closer to him.
ย ย ย "And I've heard you lost a bet," she says, grinning at her brother. James huffs a sigh. ''But this wasn't a fair game,'' he complains. ''You are siblings and have enhanced senses.'' Vivian rolls her eyes at her friend.
ย ย ย ''And yet, it took me a while to find her,'' Remus answers. ''So, you could've found her sooner than me... But you didn't.'' James mimics his friend in a childish way while his friend group finds amusement in his way of acting.
ย ย ย ''I cannot believe the year is already over,'' Peter then says. ''I mean, we will be fifth-years next year. The year of prefects and stuff.'' The four others nod silently.
ย ย ย ''Well, I know for sure that I won't be a prefect,'' Sirius laughs. ''I find Remus and Lily more suitable for the job.'' ''Don't forget Luna,'' James adds. ''Suited for the job.'' Vivian rolls her eyes at James.
ย ย ย ''Just because I do good in school, doesn't mean they will pick me for a prefect,'' she argues.
ย ย ย ''Pfff,'' James protests. ''You are the definition of a perfect student.'' Vivian shakes her head but can't shake off a smile.
"What are your plans for the summer break?" Peter asks, leaning backward.
"I'll be staying with James," Sirius replies, running a hand through his black hair.
"The Evans' invited us to stay the summer," Remus says. "They were so kind to ask us," Vivian adds. James' eyes widen at the mention of the family Evans.
ย ย ย "You get to spend the entire family with Red?" he yelps before pretending to lose consciousness.
"Don't forget her sister," Vivian mentions. "She will be there of course." "And Snivelus," Remus adds. "Lily once told me he lived nearby." James sat straight up with an annoyed look on his face.
ย ย ย "Ugh, Snivelus," he rolls his eyes. "Keep me up to date." Remus and Vivian nod before they rise to their feet. The five of them stroll to the Great Hall for their last meal as fourth-year students. The four Gryffindors separate from Vivian as she sits at the Ravenclaw table.
''Hey, Viv,'' Aramis greets as he flashes her a smile. Vivian returns the gesture before averting her eyes to the food on the table.
''It is weird how ridiculously fast this year went,'' Daphne comments. Vivian shifts her eyes to her friend in front of her.
''Tell me about it,'' she scoffs. ''I cannot believe how fast this went.'' While she eats, she listens along between conversations with her friends. The subjects vary between summer break activities to next year's school activities.
''I cannot wait to attend the ball,'' Daphne smiles widely. ''Finally.'' Aramis tilts his head at the girl, not quite understanding what she means. Daphne only throws an offended look in his direction.
''The winter ball,'' she clarifies. Once she sees no recognition in Aramis' eyes, she groans. ''The ball for fifth-years and higher?'' Vivian watches her friend finally understand what Daphne means. She fails to suppress her amusement and chuckles.
''Nice one, Hawthorne,'' Vivian laughs. Aramis elbows Vivian in the side, causing her to screech. Several eyes are turned in her direction because of the noise she produces. She sends them apologizing looks before glaring at Aramis.
''Don't look at me,'' he says. ''How does one manage to make such an unbecoming sound?'' Vivian gapes at her friend and slaps him on the shoulder.
''That was entirely your fault!'' she gasps, causing Aramis to snort. ''Anyways, Daphne was explaining the ball to you.'' Aramir averts his gaze to Daphne, who couldn't help but feel a jolt of jealousy. To the eye, it looks easy how the two communicate and laugh. Her eyes meet those of Vivian, who seems to have noticed her wariness. She sends her friend a wink, hopefully telling her that she is not interested in Aramis.
''Guess I will have to think of a date then,'' Aramis shrugs, keeping his eyes on Daphne. She raises an eyebrow as the corner of her mouth twitches.
''Guess I will have to think of one as well,'' Daphne answers nonchalantly. Vivian glances between the two, feeling a thick tension between them. She huffs a smile before averting her gaze to her plate.
"I cannot believe we are going home already," Lily mentions as they are making their way to the train. Vivian sends her a faint smile.
ย ย ย "Neither can I," Vivian sighs. She gazes ahead to see the Hogwarts Express blowing off steam. She throws her arm around Lily's shoulder. "Though, we are grateful to stay for the Summer."
"Of course," she beams. "I have a perfect spot for the problem," she lowers her voice. Vivian smiles as a male scent fills her nostrils. A scent of books and cologne. She glances around but they are surrounded by girls. Vivian scowls as she doesn't understand how she smells a male scent.
"Are you well?" Lily questions as Vivian remains silent. She watches her troubled expression fade into ease once she averts her eyes to Lily.
"My apologies, I got trailed away," Vivian apologizes. "Please, what did you tell me?"
"I have a perfect spot for the monthly problem," Lily repeats. Vivian's eyes lit as the corners of her mouth curved into a smile.
"You are the best," she smiles. She presses a kiss on Lily's cheek before they reach the train. "Let's search for the boys," Vivian says before boarding the train. The two pass compartment after compartment before finally coming across the Gryffindors. As usual, they left a spot near the window for Vivian.
ย ย ย "Promise you guys to write?" Vivian questions. "Because I wish to know how you are doing in these months." Sirius gently kicks Vivian's foot, causing her to draw her attention to Sirius.
ย ย ย "Of course, I will write to you, Luna," he says. "Do not think of me that lowly." He places his hand over his heart and pretends to be hurt.
"I only remind you, Pads," Vivian taunts, crossing her arms over her chest. Sirius scrunched his nose at her before blowing a kiss in her direction.
A group of students catch Vivian's eyes. She noticed Severus among us, who threw her a cold look. She then figured it must have been a group of Slytherins with Dolohov, Lestrange, and Malfoy.
"I heard from a couple of Hufflepuff that they are truly insufferable," James groans, who too noticed their crossing. "As much as I like those badgers, they can have those serpents."
ย ย ย "They better," Sirius groans.Vivian rolls her eyes.
"Yeah, well I don't want to talk about insufferable Slytherins so I wish a subject change," Vivian demands. Her friends agree and swiftly change the subject.
In the meanwhile, Tom stares at the flat landscapes of Scotland as his mind drifts off to the few dreams he had. Dreams which included a girl. A girl he has never seen before yet haunts his dreams.
He can tell he cannot stand to dream about some illiterate, no doubt foolish girl. He does not understand the meaning of her appearance and if it is one thing Tom doesn't like, then it is not knowing something.
The girl haunts his mind as a tingle sets down in his stomach. He better believes the image of her will fade and the dreams will stop.
