━━━ Nicodemus Oratorio

Nicodemus Elias Oratorio

β€’ Nicodemus comes from Ξ½Ξ―ΞΊΞ· and δημος which means 'victory of the people' and was a Greek jew who loved Jesus
β€’ Elias means 'my God is Yahweh'
β€’ Oratorio is an Italian word for a large-scale musical work

Oratorio β†’ his surname
Oro β†’ a play on his surname, meaning 'gold' in Italian

Ravenclaw

Nicodemus is a Ravenclaw you don't mess with. And if you do, chances are he's playing right along with you. He is sharply astute, and not one to mess around. He shares many Slytherin traits, but is much more subtle than most Slytherins in their obstinate ways. Nico's beauty is blinding, and he uses that to his advantage. His subversion is not obvious, because externally he is a total charm.

Elm, Phoenix feather, 12 1/4 inches, quite bendy

➒ The unfounded belief that only pure-bloods can produce magic from elm wands was undoubtedly started by some elm wand owner seeking to prove his own blood credentials, for I have known perfect matches of elm wands who are Muggle-borns. The truth is that elm wands prefer owners with presence, magical dexterity and a certain native dignity. Of all wand woods, elm, in my experience, produces the fewest accidents, the least foolish errors, and the most elegant charms and spells; these are sophisticated wands, capable of highly advanced magic in the right hands (which, again, makes it highly desirable to those who espouse the pure-blood philosophy).

➒Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.

Nicodemus is a Ravenclaw you don't mess with. And if you do, chances are he's playing right along with you.

➒ He is well aware of the cutthroat nature of the world, and doesn't pretend it is anything other than it is. He is, in that way, quite apathetic, but he sees it as realistic. He doesn't really care about other people, and God forbid a time when he does (aka, what would happen when he started to fall for someone?). He is a little narcissistic, but he is fully aware of this and therefore his apparent narcissism is quite ironic.

➒ For Nico, morality is like a game. You toss the coin, you flip it, and you choose which ever side it lands on. He feels no desire to "be good" or "do the right thing" because self-preservation suggests that it doesn't always help. But he's not inherently evil - he is aware of what is right and wrong, just sometimes chooses to ignore them. Being good is so awfully dull, after all.

➒ Nico is one of those people with a dry wit. He often has serious facial expressions, or perhaps a light smirk, and can come out with a sentence that might make you cry with laughter without so much as a crack of a smile himself. Although most people don't know him for his humour, it is certainly there. He is a very unique person, and because of his disregard for morality, he is quite unpredictable, and a fascinating character to have in your world! He's mysterious, but he's a real gem underneath. For anyone who is remotely interested in other people, he never bores. Those not smart enough for him don't understand him, but he could take you on a real ride. There is also great potential for an arc if he ever starts developing an affection for anyone.

ππ€π‚πŠπ’π“πŽπ‘π˜:
Nicodemus was born in Athens, Greece to Ibrahim Oratorio, a magi-archaeologist and Charlotte Rowe, his then assistant. It was a passionate blooming romance. He was a silver fox, handsome, weathered, she was young and hungry. For a number of years Nicodemus lived with them on their exploration, getting to see the world, before the family settled in Florence where Charlotte's family was based. When his parents split he went to live with his father Ibrahim in Oxford for his research as a fellow at Christchurch College. Their divorce was not easy, and Charlotte should have gotten custody, but Ibrahim had the money to pay for better lawyers and got the upper hand. He was always studious as a kid, and tried to learn magic well before he was allowed. His father gave him an old wand for him to play with, not really knowing how to deal with a young boy around the house. Ibrahim was a very strict father, and the two have a kind of mutual respect for one another, but it is not soft and nurturing. He rarely sees his mother, but is under the impression she doesn't really want much to do with him (far from it, she wishes she could).

Nicodemus liked being a Ravenclaw. He could stand a mile above the rest and look down on those below him. He made many friends in Slytherin, but always made a point not to ally himself too fervently with them. But he doesn't have any loyalties to the others, and wouldn't immediately deny a friendship with those on the other side, despite what he "appears" to think about blood purity.
