- chapter nine

— "OW! ASSHOLE!" Rory yelped in pain as Paul threw himself onto her bed, half of his body weight was on her and the other half on the bed. The Imprint pair had slowly but surely become more acquainted with each other, he'd learned things about her and vise versa.

"Shit, my bad." The boy apologized with a cheeky grin.

"So, there's something I wanted to ask you—" He began as she forcefully shoved him off of her so she could sit up. "What's up?"

"I'd like you to meet someone—or well two of 'em. Sam and Emily." Paul's gaze stayed on her as he spoke. "But only if you're okay with it!"

Rory blushed, mentally cursing herself for being flattered over that. "I—um, yeah. I'd love to, I mean I'd have to meet them anyway right?" He nodded in response.

"I don't want it to feel like i'm rushing you, it's just—technically imprints are part of the pack. You've met Jared and you already know Embry and Jake. Feel like it's only fair to meet the Alpha and his Emily." No matter how many times Paul and Sam disagreed, or when Paul would disobey a direct order.

That would not change the respect he held for Sam, or even Emily. Emily was the sweetest woman, treating the boys with care almost a maternal instinct the way she cared for them. They both were important to Paul.

"It's okay!" She grinned. "With how much you talk about them, I've kind of been wanting to meet them. Sam's just a little intimidating."

Before he could speak, Jonas' voice was heard from downstairs.

Rory let out a groan before gesturing for Paul to 'pause', she got up from her bed and walked to the hall. "Yeah, Dad?"

"Come help with the groceries!" He called from downstairs about to exit the house once more before stepping back in.

"And don't think I didn't see that truck, if Paul's gonna be around he might as well give me a hand! I need help getting this new table down!"

She gave Paul a sheepish grin but he only got up in retaliation. It had taken him almost days to get on Jonas' good side, who knew that all it took was to watch one football game with him to make that happen.

Lucky for Paul, they were both going for the same team.

"Hey, kid." Jonas greeted the boy, as him and Rory stepped out of the home. "How you doin', Mr. Sinclair?" Paul greeted him politely, causing Jonas to wave a hand.

"That's Jonas to you." He pointed. "Especially since you and my Rory seem to be best friends." Jonas ruffled hus daughters hair as she passed by him to grab the left over grocery bags from the backseat.

"New table?" Paul asked as him and Jonas began to take down the new piece of furniture after they'd unstrapped it. Jonas nodded, "Needed to change it, that death trap in my dining room is long past it's golden days."

"Where are you gonna put it?" Paul asked, grunting as both made an effort to take the table inside. Jonas had already moved the old table into the garage, the only thing missing was the new table.

"Got it in the garage, might shred it and dump it. It's old, but the wood's good." The man explained, using his shirt to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

"Anyway, you stayin' for dinner? I think I'm gonna cook up some burgers." He gestured towards the bags that Rory was unloading in the kitchen.

"I'd love to, but i've gotta clock into work." Paul turned the offer down politely.

"Ah yes." Jonas nodded in understanding. "But I'd like to ask..." Paul cleared his throat. "Is it okay if I borrow Rory for the weekend?" Jonas raised a brow before glancing at his daughter and shrugging.

"I don't see why not."

Paul grinned. "I'll see you both around." He waved as Rory followed after him outside, walking him to his truck.

"Should I take anything? Y'know, housewarming gift?" She asked him and he snorted. "Isn't that only for people who've moved houses?"

"You know what I mean!"

"No, you don't need to bring anything. Just yourself but I'll be the one picking you up, so that ain't a problem." He winked.

"Sam has me on patrol tonight, gotta go." Paul frowned but nonetheless smiled back at the girl just when she nodded. "Okay, be safe." She bid him goodbye.

That's when Paul decided to push his look and pressed his lips gently to her forehead in goodbye, before climbing into his truck.

A red-faced Rory made her way back into her home, locking the door as she did so. Walking into the kitchen to a smirking Jonas, who had seen the whole interaction from the window.

"I like that kid. Keep him."

"Dad!"
