CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR:
DISTRACT HER

THEY HAD BEEN DRIVING ON the road for a few minutes, awaiting Allison's call. When she did finally call, Stiles answered it, quickly putting it on speaker phone so Elaine could hear the other side of the conversation as well. "Hey, did you slow him down?"

"You could say that." The huntress answered.

"All right. Well, uh, El and I are headed to the station right now."

"Where's Scott?" Allison asked.

"He's at Isaac's. He sent me a text a few minutes ago." Elaine answered her.

"Does he have a plan?"

"Yeah, but not a very good one, and unfortunately, we don't really have time to come up with anything better." Elaine answered her with a soft sigh falling from her lips.

"Keep me updated."

"You as well." Elaine told her before hanging up the phone. The girl shook her head. "I can't believe we're doing this."

"Well, we don't have anything better." Stiles sighed. "Trust me, I hate this just as much as you do."

"Yeah, well at least you didn't get your throat clawed out by the guy's uncle." Elaine muttered.

"Well, at least you're alive." Derek's voice sarcastically responded as he appeared beside the vehicle. They had just pulled up at the sheriff's station. Elaine narrowed her eyes at the man before cursing under her breath and quickly climbing into the back.

"Okay. Now, the keys to every cell are in a password-protected lock-box in my father's office. The problem is getting past the front desk." Stiles was quick to start explaining, the three glancing through the sheriff department window at the deputy who was getting herself a cup of coffee.

"I'll distract her." Derek answered.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! You? You're not going in there." Stiles denied, quickly grabbing onto Derek's arm before he could get out of the vehicle. Derek glanced between Stiles and his hand, and it took a moment before Stiles said, "I'm taking my hand off."

"I was exonerated."

"You're still a person of interest." Elaine pointed out to the man.

"An innocent person." Derek replied.

"Anโ€•๏ธŽYou? Yeah, right." Stiles scoffed. Derek continued to look at the boy before he huffed. "Okay, fine, what's your plan?"

"To distract her." He blandly answered.

"Uh-huh. How? By punching her in the face?"

"By talking to her." Derek gave a sarcastic laugh before his face went completely serious once again.

"Okay. All right. Give me a sample. What are you gonna open with?" Derek stayed silent as he looked at the boy. Stiles nodded. "Dead silence. That should work beautifully. Any other ideas?"

"I'm thinking about punching you in the face."

"Alright, boys. Out of the vehicle before this conversation gets anymore violent." Elaine ordered, pushing her hands forward, making both doors open. She gave them both a sarcastic smile.

"You didn't even speak." Stiles told her. "What? Can you do magic without speaking now?"

"You're a witch?" Derek rose his eyebrows in surprise.

"Literally not the point. Get out, before I make you." Elaine quickly changed the subject. The two were quick to get out of the vehicle, allowing Elaine to crawl out from the back and jump out of the vehicle herself. Derek was the first to go in, walking up to the front desk whilst Stiles and Elaine stood there, waiting for it to be safe for them to pass.

"Good evening, how can I help. . . you." She looked up from the file, looking at Derek who simply smiled at her.

"Hi."

"Hi." The deputy smiled in response.

"Um, I had a question. . . um, sorry, I'm a little-a little thrown. I wasn't really expecting someoneโ€•๏ธŽ"

"Like me?"

"Oh, I was gonna say 'so incredibly beautiful,' but, yeah. . . I guess that'd be the same thing. . ." Stiles and Elaine were quick to sneak past the woman. They quickly entered Stiles' dad's office, walking over to box that held the keys to the cells. He opened it only to find the keys weren't there.

"Shit." Elaine muttered. The two were quick to leave the Sheriff's office, walking down the halls in hopes of finding where Isaac was being kept, however they were quick to stop upon seeing one of the deputy's exit the room.

"Oh, uh, we were just looking. . ." However Stiles trailed off upon noticing the syringe in his hand. "Oh, shโ€•๏ธŽ" Before Elaine could do anything, the man grabbed onto her and slammed her head roughly onto the wall, making her fall down to the ground whilst he dragged Stiles away. The girl rapidly blinked, trying to stop the world from spinning. She tried to pull herself up, stumbling over her footing in the process before she tightly closed her eyes and opened them again to reveal the purple glow that took over the usual blue.

She glanced up when the fire alarm went off, making her quickly get up and run towards the direction in which she believed the deputy was heading. She made it to the cells just in time to watch Isaac attack the deputy. She was quick to pull Stiles up from the ground.

"You okay?"

"Your eyes. . ." The boy mumbled. Elaine looked at the man that held the wolfsbane quickly throwing her hand out.

"Patere" The girl yelled, making the deputy slam against the wall, placing her hand so that the man was choking on air. Isaac took the opportunity to force the needle of wolfsbane out of the man's hands, allowing it to fall to the ground before Elaine put her hand down, allowing Isaac to slam the man's head against the wall, making him fall to the ground unconscious. That's when Derek appeared, quickly stepping on the needle and breaking it. That's when Elaine noticed Isaac's murderous eyes focused on Stiles. Elaine was quick to step in front of the boy, her eyes glowing once more but before she could do anything, Derek stepped in front of Isaac and forced his wolf to come out, roaring loudly at the boy. Isaac cowered back against the wall, making Elaine's shoulders slightly relax before she turned back towards Stiles who had placed himself back on the floor in surprise. She kneeled down in front of him, sighing softly.

"You studied that spell book, way too fast for my liking." Stiles breathed.

"Didn't Scott ever tell you I had an eidetic memory?" Elaine asked with a small smile.

The two then turned back towards Derek who was looking at Isaac, the boy still cowering, though he had changed back to normal. "How did you do that?" Stiles asked.

"I'm the Alpha." He simply answered.

"You two better leave before the others arrive." Elaine advised as she stood up, Stiles grabbing her outstretched hand as she pulled him up, though once he was standing, he didn't let go of her hand. Derek nodded to the female before he helped Isaac up and the two quickly left. Stiles and Elaine stood there, looking at the knocked out hunter. That's when Noah Stilinski and three other deputies arrived. Stiles looked at them before quickly pointing to the unconscious man.

"Uh. . . he did it."

โ”๏ธŽโ”๏ธŽโ”๏ธŽโ”๏ธŽโ”๏ธŽ

"What you did. . ." Stiles started, making Elaine turn her head to look at him. He and Elaine were laying on Stiles' bed, having a movie night seeing as the two hadn't had one in a while. "It was. . . badass."

"Why thank you, Stiles." Elaine smiled.

"Look, I know that you want to test your abilities, see what the hell it is that you can do. Just. . . just don't over do it."

"You don't have to worry about me, Stiles." Elaine assured the boy.

But he did. When he saw her get slammed into the wall, his pulse spiked in worry. He was being dragged away, unable to do anything, watching as she just laid there. He had been terrified, even if he knew she was going to get back up. Watching her eyes glow that lavender purple as she yelled out a Latin phrase that sent that hunter slamming into the wall, using her hand to choke him even though she was no where near him. That scared him. All he could hear was Rebekah's words repeating in his head.

"But, I do." Stiles told the female. Elaine frowned as she looked away from the movie to look at her best friend once more. "El, when you died. . . I've never felt so panicked in my entire life. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't do anything. And now that you're back, I just. . . I can't help but be worried because I don't want anything else to happen to you."

"Stiles. . ." Elaine frowned. She met the eyes of the boy that she had been in love with since they were four. The boy that was in love with her best friend, and the boy who only cares about her as nothing but a friend. The boy who was so blind to his own feelings, that as he stared into her diamond eyes, he didn't realize how deeply he had truly fallen for her. Elaine placed a hand on the boys cheek, offering him a gentle smile. "I am alright. I promise. Don't spend the entirety of your day worrying about me. I can take care of myself."

"Which is completely out of the question." He assured her with a nod. "I don't know, I just care about you, and don't want to see you getting hurt."

"And I care about you." Elaine responded. "I've already told you that if it meant saving you or any of my friends and family, then I would put myself in the line of fire without a second thought. Now, can we go back to the movie? Or would you like to worry a little more?" Elaine jokingly raised her eyebrow at the boy, a smile on her lips. He rolled his eyes, a smile pulling at the corner of his mouth before they went back to the movie with Elaine casually laying her head on his chest, Stiles wrapping an arm around her shoulders. Before they knew it, they were dead asleep in that exact same position, the credits of the movie rolling on the screen.
