CHAPTER ONE:
DEAD BODY

ELAINE SAT IN HER BROTHER'S room, her legs crossed over one another with a book in her hands. She read the Latin words, having found a love for books that were in different languages. Scott sat on the chair that was placed at his desk, trying to fix his lacrosse stick for the tryouts that took place on the first day of school. Scott glanced towards his sister, shaking his head as he scoffed lightly.

"I don't understand how you can read that." Scott told the female, making the woman smirk slightly as she flipped the page.

"I don't understand how I can read it either." Elaine answered honestly. "But, I have found that Latin is like second nature to me. Spanish, I'm getting there, but Latin is my favorite."

"You're weird." Scott scrunched his nose up, earning a light hearted laugh from the female. When he was finished with fixing up his lacrosse stick, he threw it on the bed, making it almost hit Elaine's ankles. She narrowed her eyes at her brother who just gave her a playful smirk in response before he walked over to his bathroom where a pull-up bar was placed, using it to exercise.

"I'm not weird." Elaine scoffed, rolling her eyes as she closed her book slightly, using her finger as a bookmark. She looked at her brother with bored eyes. "You're the one that spends all of his life doing lacrosse and exercising, which is no use because you get benched every year."

"Well, reading Latin books isn't going to help you out either." Scott responded, jumping down from the bar and entering the bathroom to brush his teeth. "Latin's a dead language!" He called through a mouthful of toothpaste.

"Well, at least I can talk shit about you without you knowing what I'm saying." Elaine answered with sarcastic smile, smirking slightly as Scott poked his head from the bathroom, narrowing his eyes at the female before he entered the bathroom once more. Elaine chuckled lightly before opening her book once more, only to stop once Scott came out of the room, looking around in alarm. Elaine frowned, furrowing her eyebrows. "Scott?"

"Did you hear that?" Scott questioned the female.

"Hear what. . . ?" Elaine frowned. He quickly pulled on a shirt, placing a coat over his body before nodding for her to come on. Elaine scoffed, placing her book on the bed on the page she had stopped at before getting up and walking after her brother. She watched as Scott grabbed a baseball bat.

"What's that going to do?" Elaine questioned, but Scott quickly shushed her, making the female roll her eyes before she crossed her arms over her chest and followed her brother outside. He crept around the porch, Elaine now being able to hear the noise making her widen her eyes slightly. The two continued forward, Scott leaning over the balcony when all of a sudden a body was draped from over the roof, making both siblings let out a yell of surprise and fright. The person screamed as well, Scott holding up the bat only for them both to realize that it was only Stiles.

"Stiles, what the hell!" Elaine snapped, running a hand through her hair as she let out a huff.

"Stiles, what the hell are you doing here?" Scott hissed, the bat still tight in his hands.

"Neither of you were answering your phones." Stiles quickly defended. He then noticed the bat in his hand, making him quickly exclaim, "Why do you have a bat?"

"I thought you were a predator!" Scott quickly replied.

"A preโ€•๏ธŽ" Stiles cut himself off. "Look, I know it's late, but you two gotta hear this." The siblings exchanged looks before looking back towards Stiles expectantly. "I saw my dad leave 20 minutes ago. Dispatch called. They're bringing in every officer from the Beacon Department, and even state police."

"For what?" They both asked at the same time, giving each other weird looks before turning back towards the boy.

"Two joggers found a body in the woods." Stiles told them before dropping from the roof and landing on the ground. Elaine moved so that she was sitting on the railing of the porch, Scott leaning over the railing as he looked down at the hyperactive boy.

"A dead body?" Scott questioned, earning looks from both Elaine and Stiles.

"No, a body of water. Yes, dumbass, a dead body." Stiles responded as if it were obvious before quickly placing his foot on the railing and climbing over it so that he was on the porch.

"You mean like, murdered?" Scott asked.

"What is with you and the dumb questions tonight, huh?"

"Nobody knows yet." Stiles answered, Scott shooting Elaine a look which made the female roll her eyes. "Just that it was girl, probably in her 20's."

"Hold on, if they found the body, then what are they looking for?"

"That's the best part, they only found half." Stiles said with an excited grin, making Elaine scrunch her nose up in disgust. "We're all going."

"No, you two are going." Elaine spoke, hopping down from the railing. "I'm going to finish my chapter, then sleep."

"What? Come on, Laney!" Stiles whined, Elaine gave him a pat on the shoulder as she walked by him.

"I'll keep the door unlocked for your arrival!" Elaine called back to her brother before opening the front door and going inside. She shook her head with a scoff, mumbling words to herself about how she couldn't believe that she was friends with one of those idiots and related to the other before she went into Scott's room to retrieve her book. She picked it up off of Scott's bed before looking out of Scott's window, watching as the two boys climbed into Stiles' jeep before driving off.

"Idiots." She mumbled under her breath before walking out of Scott's room and into her own, sitting down and finishing the chapter that she had been reading moments before Stiles had rudely interrupted her from doing so.
