CHAPTER NINE:
DEREK HALE

THAT SATURDAY, ELAINE ENTERED THE house, something she hadn't done in the past two weeks. She was still in her scrubs from working at the hospital and walked up to her room. She glanced around it, seeing that nothing had changed. She walked into her bathroom, quickly jumping in the shower and washing all of the germs off of her body. When she got out, she put on her clothes to go to sleep in before walking out of her room and heading towards Scott's. She stood in front of his door for a moment before holding up her hand to knock, but before she could his door flew open, making her take a step back in surprise.

"Sorry." He quickly apologized. He stepped to the side, allowing her to enter his room before he closed the door, watching as she glanced around the room before taking a seat on his bed. He stayed in his spot, not wanting to end up scaring her all over again with the simplest of movements.

"So. . . are you going to stand there or are you going to explain what the hell is going on with you?" Elaine asked, crossing her arms over her chest as she looked up, and her eyes had finally met his. Scott nodded his head at her before sighing.

"When Stiles and I went out to go find that body. . . something happened. I got bit by a. . . well a wolf. And now I'm what's called a werewolf. And I can't control it fully, but it's only really bad on the full moon, and when someone makes me angry." Scott started. He stood there for a good hour, explaining every little detail to his sister, not wanting her to miss a thing, but also not wanting her to be afraid of him anymore. "There's another werewolf. Derek Hale."

"Hale? As in that family who's house burned down a couple years ago?" Elaine asked, furrowing her eyebrows. Scott nodded his head in response.

"I'm not really sure if he's good or bad yet, but he has been the one that has been somewhat helping me." Scott told her. Elaine nodded her head in response. "I know that you're scared of me, and I completely understand if you walk out of here and never talk to me again. But I just wanted to explain everything to you, and hope that there was some kind of a chance that you didn't hate me, and that you would be able to look at me again without. . . being terrified."

"I don't hate you, Scott." Elaine told him, frowning slightly. "I never hated you. I was just. . . it was something that was very unexpected for me, I guess. And, I'm not going to lie, I was terrified to even be around you. I just. . . I need you to promise me something, Scott."

"Yeah, of course, anything." He quickly answered, nodding his head.

"Promise me that you won't try and kill me. Or go completely wolf on me until I can fully process the fact that you are no longer fully human. I know you can't control it, but if you feel a 'wolf moment' coming on, just send me a signal and then head the other direction."

"Done." He nodded.

"I also have some rules." She spoke, making the boy raise an eyebrow at her. "One, I know that you and Allison have been getting close lately, so if you hurt her I will take wolfs bane and poison your food with it. Second, I want to know every single thing that goes down involving said wolf stuff. Because, I'd like to help if there is a way for me to be able to do so."

He smiled. "Done and done."

She smiled back. "Good." She stood up, brushing her hair off her shoulder. "Now, I'm going to go to sleep, I've worked all day and am completely exhausted."

"Alright." He opened the door and she walked out. "Hey." She stopped, turning to face him. "I love you, El."

"I love you too, Scotty." She smiled before turning back on her heel and entering her room, her shoulders officially relaxing now that she knew everything about her brother, and what he was.

When Elaine got to school the next morning, she was immediately tackled by Stiles, making her let out a laugh of amusement. She pulled away from the hyperactive boy, looking up at him with a questioning smile. "What was that for?"

"Uh, for being the only other person that knows about Scott, duh." He answered her, swinging an arm around her shoulder as they started towards the school doors. "And you've been ignoring me for two fricking weeks."

"Aww, did you miss me?" She asked, pouting slightly.

"It was lonely, you know? Now that Scott's with Allison and all, I needed my second partner in crime!" He exclaimed.

"Well, I'm here. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the supernatural exist, and that my brother is one of them, but I'm slowly but surely getting there."

"I promise you, it's easy to handle. He's usually calm most of the time. Usually. He's been upset since you've been ignoring him, but besides that, it's really awesome."

"You and I have a very different definition of awesome." Elaine spoke, cocking an eyebrow at the male as she shook her head. "Hey, do you mind taking me home this afternoon? Lydia said she was going to do something with Jackson. Or, something like that."

"Of course, Laney. You shouldn't even have to ask." Stiles told her. "Why don't you ride your bike to school like Scott does?"

"Because no. That's why." She answered. He hummed in understanding before the two went their separate ways, heading towards their first classes of the day. The day flew by quicker than most Monday's would, and when the final bell rang, Elaine was out the door and in the school parking lot within a matter of seconds. She stood by Stiles' jeep, watching as the students all walked by before Stiles made his way to the vehicle.

"Hey." She smiled at him before opening the door and climbing into the passengers seat whilst Stiles got in the driver's. He cranked the car before going to head out of the parking lot only to slam on the breaks when a person stepped out in front of the car. "Oh my god!" Elaine and Stiles yelled, Elaine's eyes widening in surprise as she looked at the man. Cars started beeping behind them, grabbing the attention of several students. Elaine's mouth dropped as she watched the man fall to the ground.

"You've got to be kidding me, this guys everywhere." Stiles said, grabbing the attention of the female.

"You know this guy?" Elaine hissed, not realizing that it had in fact been the guy to have taken her home the night of Lydia's party.

"Derek Hale." He answered her.

"You mean, the wolf, Derek Hale?" She quickly asked. He nodded in response.

Scott ran by the open window, looking at the duo before saying, "What the hell?" and running towards the man that lay on the ground. Elaine and Stiles quickly climbed out of the car and over to the man. Scott quickly kneeled down in front of the man before asking, "What are you doing here?"

"I was shot." Derek answered.

"S-shot?" Elaine stuttered, her eyes widening.

"He's not looking so good, dude. . ." Stiles pointed out.

"Why aren't you healing?" Scott quizzed.

"I can't." Derek answered breathlessly. "It wasโ€•๏ธŽit was a different kind of bullet."

"A silver bullet?" Stiles questioned.

"No, you idiot." Derek hissed.

"Wait, waitโ€•๏ธŽthat's what she meant when she said you had forty-eight hours. . ." Scott quickly spoke in realization.

"What? Whoโ€•๏ธŽwho said forty-eight hours?"

"The one who shot you." Scott informed. That was when Derek gasped, his eyes glowing blue and cars continuing to honk their horns around them. "What are you doing?! Stop that!"

"I thought wolves eyes glowed yellow?" Elaine questioned, frowning slightly as she glanced towards Stiles.

"I'm trying to tell you, I can't." Derek said through gritted teeth.

"Derek, get up." Scott demanded. He looked towards Stiles before saying, "Help me put him in your car." Stiles did as asked, helping Scott pull Derek from the ground, putting him in the passengers seat whilst Elaine quickly hopped in the back, Stiles and Scott standing at the window.

"I need you to find out what kind of bullet they used." Derek told the boy.

"How the hell am I supposed to do that?" Scott exclaimed.

"'Cause she's an Argent. She's with them." Derek replied.

"Why should I help you?" Scott asked, almost angrily.

"Because you need me."

"Fine." Scott sighed as Stiles ran around and got into the driver's seat. "I'll try." Scott then looked towards Stiles before saying, "Hey, get him out of here."

"I hate you for this so much." Stiles huffed before quickly driving out of the school parking lot. Elaine sat there, confusion clear on her face.

"I only know about the supernatural for one day, and shit like this happens?" She asked, meeting Stiles' eyes through the rearview mirror. "I'm glad I wasn't there to experience whatever the hell happened before all this." With that, the girl crossed her arms and leaned back in the seat with a sigh leaving her lips.
