CHAPTER FIVE:
LYDIA'S PARTY
SHE COULDN'T SLEEP THAT WEEK. She stayed up, trying to look up the words that the unknown woman had spoken to her, but how was she supposed to look up something she didn't know or understand when the accent was so thick it was almost impossible to spell? She laid down at three, closed her eyes and tried to sleep only for the same phrase to be repeated over and over to the point it was driving her insane. Eventually, she gave up.
Elaine got ready for school, even going downstairs and fixing herself some breakfast, leaving a little extra for her mom but none for Scott, knowing he would get up late and it would be cold. She pushed her food around the plate with her fork, thinking back to the events that had taken place a few nights prior. She looked up only upon hearing footsteps.
"You're up early." Melissa spoke, entering the kitchen where another plate was sitting. Melissa pointed towards the plate. "Is this for me?"
"I thought you might like a home cooked meal from your favorite child before going into work today." Elaine answered, giving her mother a small smile.
"I don't have a favorite child." Melissa answered, taking a fork and eating the food.
"You're just saying that as to not hurt Scott's feelings." Elaine answered with a small smirk. She took her mother's plate once she was finished, accepting the kiss on the head her mother gave her before saying goodbye. Elaine cleaned the plates before drying them and placing them back in the cabinets. She grabbed her bag, heading towards the door but stopping when the front door opened and she saw Scott enter with nothing but boxers on. She cocked an eyebrow at him, the man standing there as if he had been caught in the act of burglary.
"You know what, I'm not even going to ask." Elaine spoke, shaking her head before continuing her way towards the couch. Scott ran past her and up the steps whilst Elaine opened her book and silently started to read.

After school, the training for who would make the lacrosse team took place. Elaine sat there with her legs crossed over one another, watching from afar as Stiles scrambled after Scott, trying to tell him something only for Scott to ignore him. They all gathered around Coach, Elaine's attention moving when she saw Allison make her way towards her. The female sat beside her on the bench, the two smiling at one another before watching. And once again to her surprise, Scott got the ball and maneuvered past everyone before shooting and making the goal.
"Whoa." The woman breathed, though she couldn't help but feel proud of her brother. She watched as Coach called him over, speaking to him for a few moments before Coach gave him a pat on the shoulder, and that's when she heard it.
"You're startin' buddy. You made first line." Immediately Elaine stood up and cheered for her brother, others joining her on doing so. As practice ended, Elaine made her way towards Stiles who was still sitting there.
"Hey, Stilinski." Elaine smiled, grabbing the boys attention. "Everything alright?"
"Yeah. Of course." He said, standing up and smiling. He swung an arm around Elaine as the two noticed Scott talking with Allison.
"We haven't talked all week." Elaine spoke, frowning slightly. "Did I do something?"
"What? No, of course not! I've just been a little. . . distracted lately." The boy told her, deciding that it probably wouldn't be best to tell Elaine about the current situation going on with her brother. "You know, if you hung out with Scott and I more than Lydia and Jackson, we wouldn't be having this problem."
"I hang out with Lydia to keep her from you." Elaine said sarcastically, earning an offended look from the boy, slapping his hand over his heart.
"I'm hurt, Laney. Truly, I am." Elaine laughed before patting Stiles' arm.
"I'll see you later, Stiles." With that, Elaine walked away and towards Allison who had promised to take her home.

When Elaine's phone started ringing, she opened her eyes with a grunt, moving her hand around until she finally clasped the thing in her hands and answering it.
"What." She muttered.
"Wake up sunshine." Stiles' voice was on the other end of the phone.
"What why?"
"Aren't you going to Lydia's party?"
"I mean. . . I guess? Why are you calling me, Stiles?"
"Well, you have to get there somehow don't you?" Elaine's eyes seemed to snap open as she sat up, her heart suddenly pumping violently in her chest and butterflies filled her stomach. She didn't know why, well, she knew why, but she'd rather not talk about it. She bit her lip, running a hand through her hair before sighing.
"Twenty minutes." She answered before hanging up the phone and quickly scrambling from the bed and hoping into her shower. She shaved, washed her hair and body, and then got out and dried her hair, deciding she would curl it just because it wasn't often she dressed up. She grabbed a simple red velvet dress that went past her thigh and was off the shoulders, along with some simple black flats. She did her makeup, not making it fancy or anything, just putting on the regular eyeshadow and clear lip-gloss. When she heard a knock, she sighed before grabbing herself a leather jacket and putting her phone inside the pocket before running down the steps.
She pulled open the door, smiling at Stiles as he stood there. "Hey, Stiles." The boy was surprised by her attire, not exactly used to the female looking so dressed up. But God, did she look stunning standing there. "You ready to go?"
Stiles cleared his throat. "Y-yeah. Let's do this!" He held out his arm to her, making the female laugh slightly before placing her arm in his. He opened the door for her, to which she thanked him before he got in the other side and started driving. He glanced towards the female, watching as she looked at the scenery passing by. "You look absolutely stunning, by the way."
"Really? You don't think I over did it?" Elaine questioned, looking down at her attire with a small frown.
"Nope, not at all."
Elaine smiled at this. "Thank you, Stiles."
"Anytime, madam." Elaine rolled her eyes playfully at him before she turned on the radio, allowing it to feel the comfortable silence. They pulled up to Lydia's, the duo getting out and walking straight inside. Of course, Lydia saw the female from across the room, Stiles walking away to get himself a drink.
"Elaine Rosalynn McCall!" Lydia said with a wide smile. "You look hot!"
"I was going for simple." Elaine answered, feeling a blush rise to her cheeks.
"Sure you were." Lydia said with a small smirk before handing the female a drink. Elaine took it, taking a sip of it only to scrunch her nose up at the taste of alcohol. She strolled through the party, smiling at people and having the occasional conversation, when suddenly she saw her brother. She frowned before calling out his name. However, he ignored her. Elaine apologize to those she had been having a conversation with before she quickly ran after him, stopping beside of Allison as the two watched him drive away.
"What's wrong with him?" Elaine questioned, sharing a look with Allison.
"I was hoping you could tell me."
"Allison, Elaine." The two females both turned their heads towards the voice. A male stood there, his hands stuffed in his leather jacket. "I'm a friend of Scott's. My name's Derek." He offered the two a kind smile before offering them a ride home, to which they both decided to accept.
"Hey, Ali?" Elaine questioned from the backseat.
"Yeah?"
"Do you care if I stay at yours tonight? I really don't want to be home if Scott's having a come apart." Elaine muttered, annoyance clear in her tone. "Besides, I'll probably kick his ass for abandoning you at the party, and our fights get violent."
Allison seemed to widely smile at this. "Of course! I've been wanting you to stay over anyways."
"Here you ladies are." Derek told the two, stopping in front of Allison's house. They both thanked the male before getting out of the car.
"Your parents are going to think I'm a whore with this dress on." Elaine mumbled.
"No they won't." Alison answered, rolling her eyes before the two entered.
"Allison? Is that you?"
"Yes, mom! And I brought a friend. I hope that's alright." Allison's mom walked into the room, looking at Elaine who offered her a kind smile.
"It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Argent, I'm Elaine." She held out a hand as the woman smiled back, shaking it. With that, the two teenagers head upstairs and Allison quickly hands Elaine some clothes to change into. And luckily, they fit. The two girls sat there, talking and laughing with one another, trying to ignore the Scott situation that had happened at the party earlier, when Allison's mom called.
"Allison, it's for you!"
The two females exchanged looks before getting up and walking to the hall, stopping in the hallway as they looked down towards the door where Stiles was standing, looking at the two. "Stiles?"
"Hey guys. . ." Stiles answered. Allison's mother walked away whilst the duo made their way down the steps.
"What are you doing here?" Allison questioned, an amused smile on her lips.
"I just wanted to make sure you and Laney got home alright." He quickly answered.
"We're just fine." Elaine answered him. "Hey, do me a favor, tell Scott that I'm staying with Allison tonight, and that when I see him tomorrow I'm gonna kick his ass."
Stiles swallowed before nodding his head. "Will do." He stood there for a moment, glancing between the two girls who were looking at him expectantly. "Alright, uh, well, goodnight!" With that, the boy ran off and Elaine closed the door.
"Boys, am I right?" She sighed. Allison laughed before they made there way up the steps once more.
