EPILOGUE:
WHEN THE DARKNESS COMES

SHE HAD WATCHED AS SCOTT taught Malia Tate how to control her claws, something the werecoyote had been trying to figure out how to do, and something Stiles had promised her he would help figure out. She stood in the door way, meeting Malia's eyes and offering the girl a smile. The two had had a few conversations so far, and Elaine had to admit that she liked the girl. Malia smiled widely and showed Elaine her claws, causing the woman to chuckle and nod her head.

Her smile fell as her eyes met those of Stiles'. She hadn't spoken to either Scott nor Stiles after finding out what they had kept hidden from her. She was pissed, and maybe she was in the wrong, but anger was suddenly something that was harder for her to control, and Elaine always knew how to hold a grudge. She nodded for Stiles to follow her, walking to her room and standing at her door as she waited for him to enter. She closed the door and couldn't find herself to look at him.

     "Laney. . ."

     "Don't." Elaine whispered, shaking her head. "This is as hard for me as it is you, whether you believe me or not is up to you." She crossed her arms over her chest. "So, I'm just going to flat out say it. You broke my trust, you and Scott both did. I know that you think you were protecting me, but I wish you would have told me, Stiles. That secret was something that's going to impact my life forever. I know shit about hybrids, so I'm having to start all over again, and that pisses me off. I've worked so hard, building myself up, becoming confident in my magic, only to be taken over by dark magic, and then forced to kill my mother in order to allow that darkness to leave my body and turn me into a wolf. I have fallen to an extreme low, Stiles. And it hurts because I love you so much. I always have, and I always will."

     Stiles swallowed thickly as he looked at the girl. He didn't like where this was going. "What are you saying."

     "I'm saying I need a break." Elaine answered, finally looking up at him and meeting his eyes. "From all of it. From the lies, from the supernatural, I need to figure out who I am all over again. And by doing that, we need to take a break."

     "You need a break. . . from me?" His heart seemed to shatter in his chest. "How long?"

     "I don't know." Elaine admitted. "For a little while."

     "How long is a little while?"

     "Stiles." Elaine sighed.

     "I'm sorry, okay." Stiles was panicking. He couldn't lose her, not when he just got her back. "I will make it up to you, I swear to God I will. Laney, I love you, I just got you back."

     "I know." Elaine nodded, tears were building in her eyes. "I know. I'm not leaving you, Stiles. I'm just taking a step back."

     "It feels like you're leaving." Stiles told her. "You left for four months last summer, and that was the most painful four months of my life cause I didn't know where we stood. You can't leave again."

     "Stiles, I could never leave you." Elaine shook her head, a tear dripped down her cheek. "Just give me a few weeks, alright? Let me get my head on straight, and then we'll talk, alright?"

    He nodded. He understood where she was coming from, and she had every right to be mad at him, he just wasn't expecting this. "Alright." She went to open her door but he stopped her, gently grabbing her wrist and causing her to turn and look at him. "Can I just have one more kiss before this. . . break starts?" She looked at him and managed a small smile before she cupped his cheek in her hand before she pulled herself forwards and kissed him, and he kissed her back. It felt like the same kiss they had shared before Elaine had left town.

One that would leave him desperate for more, but one he would have to wait for until he knew where they stood. He didn't want to pull away from her, just like she didn't want to pull away from him, but they both knew that they needed this. And so they pulled away at the same time. Elaine offered him a gentle smile before pulling her door open and watching as he walked out, another silent tear slipping from her eye.

BRO IT'S FINISHED. THIS WAS A LONG ASS BOOK. Anyways, I can feel the rage that's about to thrown at me for ending it like that, seeing as Elaine and Stiles didn't even get together until the third part, which is the same part in which they're taking a break. If it makes you feel better, I won't torture you too long. Elaine just needs a little bit of self discovery before getting back into her relationship.

Speaking of my favorite OC, Elaine is officially a hybrid! Part witch, part werewolf. So that is going to be a whole new world that I'll get the chance of discovering in the sequel to this book. If you're reading this, the sequel is probably already up. And if it's not, it'll be up within the next twenty-four hours. The sequel to this book is called As The World Caves In! And I'm about to put Elaine through so much more shit, y'all aren't ready.
