CHAPTER TWENTY SIX ━━ distractions
OPHELIA Mikaelson stood next to Liam Dunbar and Theo Raeken. She looked down at her black iPhone scrolling through her's and Freya's text messages. Theo glanced over the red head's shoulder, resulting in the tribrid elbowing the boy in his abdomen. Theo pouted rubbing where she had hit him and turned his attention back to Liam who dialled Mason's phone number.
"Did it work?" Liam questioned over the phone.
"Yep. Nolan's right behind me. Like, literally right behind me. he's driving a bright red car. He's actually terrible at this." Mason chuckled lightly.
"Okay, just be careful." Liam said to the human then hanging up.
The three then waited upon the arrival of Mason Hewitt.
Liam glanced to his right seeing Bonnie and Kai Parker against the witch's car. He turned his attention back to the Original and the Chimera. The two stood oddly close by one another, glancing to one another every so often. Gnawing on his lip he sighed through his nose.
"Spill it, Liam." Theo's voice startled the blue eyed beta.
Liam parted his lips, "Are you guys, like, dating?" He rushed out, his cheeks tinted pink as he looked between the two.
Ophelia raised a brow at the beta's blunt question. "No." The two said in unison, glancing to one another. Liam raised a brow not believing the two, but decided on not pushing the topic any further.
The three were met with a hum of tires screeching. A blue Toyota parked itself in front of the three. Ophelia followed behind Theo grabbing the numerous sleeping bags from the trunk.
"I got it." Theo grabbed the bags from the red head's hand and shut the car's trunk shut. Ophelia pursed her lips at the teen's actions. She walked over to the three teenage boys overhearing Mason ask if they needed him to stay with them. "Their friends shoot to kill. Go home." Theo nodded to the human.
"You're already doing the most, Mason." Ophelia smiled to the teen and followed behind Theo.
She glanced to her left seeing Bonnie and Kai. She smiled to the witch and waved them over. As Kai waved back smiling widely. Ophelia shook her head at her friend. Kai turned his head towards the Chimera, a glare formed across the heretic's features.
"He doesn't like me does he?" Theo questioned the red head, a false smile graced his lips as he looked towards the couple. Watching as Kai began to frantically wave his arms around talking about the Chimera to Bonnie.
Ophelia cocked her head to the side, "He doesn't like a lot of people."
Liam, Bonnie and Kai made their way over to the two.
"We're gonna head to the other side of the zoo. Care texted, she said they just got to the armoury. Shouldn't be long before they get here." Bonnie nodded to the three.
"Should be quick then." Theo nodded to the witch's statement.
Bonnie nodded shoving her phone into her jean pocket, she hugged the tribrid. "Be careful." She mumbled into her thick hair.
"You too." Ophelia pulled away and hugged the heretic. The five dispersed.
Ophelia and Theo made their way through the zoo to the pack's hideout. Theo placed their bags down on the floor, sprawled out. He glanced over his shoulder seeing Ophelia look around the park for any movement.
With a sigh he stood to his feet standing in front of the Original. He placed his hands on the red head's forearms gently. "You okay?" He asked softly.
"Yeah, yeah, fine." Ophelia nodded unsurely, looking around them two.
"We can leave, if you don't want to-" Theo began, his hands dropped to his side. Ophelia shrugged the boy's hands away and shook her head.
Liam ran over to the two unaware of the glare sent his way from Theo Raeken for interrupting the two.
"They're here." He squeaked nodding to the fences across from them.
The three crouched down next to the gates listening in on the hunters below them. The three looked over the gates and furrowed their brows.
"Shouldn't there be more?" Ophelia asked out loud.
"Yeah, where the hell are they?" Theo nodded looking below them.
"Where are they?" One questioned the nervous and antsy teenager.
"Inside the zoo. They're all here." Nolan nodded to the intimidating men. "It's not just the two of you, is it?" He questioned in disbelief.
"What do you mean, 'just?" He asked.
"It's not just a pack, okay? There's a family, an Alpha, Banshee, Witches." Nolan rambled, "They are all here."
"I don't see all of them." One rolled his eyes looking around the zoo.
"I don't see anyone."
"I . . . I saw Theo, Liam an-" Nolan began. The two boys looked over to the red head who listened intently with furrowed brows. "They brought a car full of food and supplies right here. They're here, they're all here!"
"They don't believe him." Ophelia murmured.
"Okay," Theo nodded to himself. A smirked formed his lips, "-they'll have to believe us. Isn't that right?!" Theo shouted loudly startling the two beside him.
"Why are you yelling?" Liam whispered, genuinely confused.
"What are you doing?" Ophelia asked, scrunching up her nose.
"You got a problem?! Oh, that's right you always got a problem!" Theo shouted in Liam's face.
"What the hell are you doing?" Liam asked softly, a frown etched on the beta's lips.
"Shut up!" Theo shouted in Liam's face startling the beta, who backed away in hurt. He looked to Ophelia with sad eyes only to see the Original on her phone filming the two. He gaped at the red head who shrugged smiling innocently.
She stumbled back with wide eyes, seeing Theo punch Liam in the jaw. The beta fell back in shock gaping at the Chimera.
"Yeah, you see that, Scott? Little Beta can't even take a punch!" Theo taunted, the three stood their feet. Ophelia watched with wide eyes glancing between both boys, then to the hunters below them.
"It's working." She nodded.
"And what do you think, Ophelia?" Theo called out. "What, you think he can take me?"
"Well . . ." Ophelia trailed off.
"Okay, I get it." Liam held his jaw whispering to the Chimera. Ophelia walked over to the Beta, wiping the blood from his nose on her jacket sleeve. "But did you have to actually punch me?" He asked, a small whine left his throat. He winced as he moved his nose and jaw around.
Theo raised his fist once again and decked Liam once more. Ophelia rolled her eyes seeing the two wolves fight. "Boys." She sighed. She leaned against a nearby tree. She looked down at her manicured nails, as the two continued to brawl.
"See what I mean, Scott? He's only good in a fight when he's angry. So let's see just how angry he gets." Theo smirked, punching Liam again.
Liam snarled jumping on top of Theo, punches were thrown between both boys.
The red head pulled out her phone once again tapping on her camera app and began to film the two boys. "Liam to your right." She called out, pointing to Theo who was about to claw on his right side. Ophelia then scrolled for a filter for the video, "Would black and white would be a bit too much?" She asked herself, giggling to herself she shook her head. "What am I talking about, my brother wears a suit everywhere he goes while the other one carried our siblings around in caskets for over a century." She then sent the video to Malia and Kai.
Ophelia sighed pushing herself off from the tree. She raised a brow to Theo who now sported a bloody nose. Alongside Liam whose shirt had been ripped and bloodied from Theo's claws.
"Are you two done?" She raised a brow to the two.
"We gotta call for back up." The three heard from below them.
"I think they're sold." Theo nodded to the two.
"You ripped my t-shirt." Liam pointed out looking down at the clawed shirt. "He ripped it." Liam whined to the red head, Ophelia walked over and ran her fingers through the beta's soft hair.
"Yeah, you broke my nose. Twice." Theo grunted out, glaring at the beta. "It healed, you broke it again. Two times!" He growled.
"Don't be dramatic." Ophelia rolled her eyes. "And don't yell at him."
Liam stuck his tongue out to Theo who glared at the beta. With a shrug he sent another punch Theo's way. "Three times."
▂▂▂▂
"DO you think this is going to work?" Caroline questioned Hayley.
The brunette shrugged, "Hopefully." She murmured, looking out the window of their black Range Rover. "This family can never catch a break." She breathed out.
"Tell me about it." Caroline nodded in agreement. "I totally forgot how much drama Klaus dealt with until that whole thing happened with you going missing and Hope looking for you." She sighed, "But, this includes not just us or our family, but every supernatural being out there."
"Yeah." Hayley breathed out nodding.
"What are they doing?" Caroline questioned seeing Elijah, Klaus and Kol head back to their car.
"What's going on?" Hayley questioned her husband.
"It would appear that the hunters have left, but there are alarms in the warehouse. Argent suggested we come with a new plan." Elijah explained taking his seat in the passenger side. "I suggested Niklaus think of one."
"How much longer?" Caroline questioned with worried blue orbs.
"Nine minutes." Kol answered, his glare on the ware house in front of them.
▂▂▂▂
"THERE'S still three of them and it's been half-an-hour." Liam announced to the two.
"Not for long." Ophelia muttered, the two boys looked to the red head in confusion. She showed her phone to the two boys, a text from Kol appeared announcing the hunters had left for the zoo.
"Why did you pick this place anyway?" Theo questioned the beta.
"Because it's like Mykonos." Liam explained.
"The Greek Island." Ophelia noted. Theo glanced between the two in confusion.
"Exactly. In the city they built these long, narrow, winding streets that all meet up with each other. Invaders would get lost in them like they were in a maze trying to figure out which way to go." Liam explained.
Theo looked between the two impressed.
"What? I like history." Liam defended himself.
"I've been there a couple of times." Ophelia murmured avoiding Theo's amused eyes.
"I'm impressed. It's a good idea." He nodded to the two.
"Yeah, once they show up." Liam muttered.
As if on cue, tires screeched behind the three. Signalling they were no longer alone.
"Think they just showed up."
Liam and Ophelia stood by watching the hunters, as Theo walked past the two. "Hey, let's go." He pulled gently on Ophelia's leather jacket's sleeve. "We're supposed to be decoys, not target practice. You still working on that anger?" He looked to Liam.
"I'm fine." Liam rasped out, his glare on the hunters outside of them.
"Well, you can be angry at Nolan and stay alive. Come on, Lia." Ophelia stood her ground glancing to Liam who refused to budge. "Ophelia." Theo pressed, placing his hand on her forearm.
"Spread out. Nothing gets in or out." She heard Gerard. The two growled softly and lowly.
▂▂▂▂
"HOW cute." Hayley tilted her head to the side, knocking a guard down to the floor with one kick.
"Right?" Caroline giggled knocking another down.
"If we fed on them, the time would go by so much faster." Kol sang out, a frown graced his lips as he looked down at the wasted food beneath them.
"No feeding." Chris Argent shook his head at the Original.
"How does Davina put up with you?" Hayley questioned the vampire.
"What can I say? I'm excellent in bed." He winked to the brunette. Hayley and Caroline looked to one another and nodded, slapping the man's arms. "Ow! Nik, Elijah, control your women." He rubbed his arms walking away from the two females.
"Baby." Caroline mocked, walking next to Klaus.
Malia giggled from her spot watching the Original family, only to be nudged by Scott and Lydia. "Bad time." She nodded, sheepishly looking down at her boots.
"The thermite charges will take care of the weapons. Just make sure you're clear before they detonate, okay?"
"How are we doing this? Split up?" Hayley questioned the group.
"If we all go in, we would be more at risk. It would seem as though we should go in small groups." Elijah nodded, receiving a understanding nod from the Argent man.
"Okay, Scott and Malia go in the armoury. Elijah and Hayley will be on guard. Klaus and Caroline you both come with Lydia and I." Chris nodded to the Original family.
"And what about me?" Kol raised a brow to the man.
"Stand guard."
"Why me? Nik, is the one who is part dog. Shouldn't the pup be on watch?" Kol questioned slightly annoyed.
"Would you prefer a bite from the dog?" Klaus asked darkly.
"Okay, would you both just shut it. We don't have time for this." Caroline raised her hands in front of the two brothers.
"Later?" Kol asked with a smirk.
"Later, brother." Klaus nodded in agreement.
"Okay, let's go."
Klaus and Caroline Mikaelson followed after Chris Argent and Lydia Martin. As Malia, Scott, Elijah and Hayley moved down the hall. Leaving Kol in his spot.
"Leave the hard work to the younger brother." Kol grumbled to himself. "Bloody gits. Davina, would never." He muttered crossing his arms against his chest.
The four arrived to the control room.
"All clear?" The hunter questioned out loud.
He was met with a fist. "All clear." Caroline answered, looking down at the unconscious man.
"Beautiful." Klaus complimented with adoration in his blue orbs, watching his fiancé knock out the man.
"Okay." Chris breathed out.
Caroline watched through the camera's seeing Malia and Hayley attack the two lone guards at the end of their hallway, knocking them out clean.
"They did it." She chirped.
"Little wolf still has it." Klaus noted, nodding impressed with Hayley. "And the little coyote."
Chris sat in the chair, next to Caroline. Lydia hovered over the two. Klaus stood by the room's door.
"Did you hear a gunshot?" Lydia questioned the three.
"No, I didn't hear anything." Chris shook his head with furrowed brows.
"No." Caroline said to the strawberry blonde.
"I heard shell casings." She clenched her jaw.
"Perhaps, we should make this quick. If the banshee is hearing such things." Klaus noted standing by the door.
"I saw the windshield crack and then I heard it shatter." Lydia said to Chris, then looked to the couple. "I think you were right. We should've called this off. We have to get out of here."
"We won't get another shot at this." Caroline argued with the Banshee.
"Scott and Malia could die." She argued. "It's not worth the risk. Not to mention they have wooden bullets, and not just any wooden bullets white oak!" She exclaimed to the Original and the blonde.
"We don't need a reminder, sweetheart." Klaus remarked rolling his eyes.
"Right now we're in it and we need to weigh the risk versus reward carefully. If we stay, we could succeed. If we go, we know we won't get another chance. Since one risk is known, the other is unknown..." Chris explained.
"We go with the unknown." Lydia concluded.
Chris nodded to the blonde who unlocked the room.
▂▂▂▂
OPHELIA stood behind a concrete wall, Liam perched next to her. Theo stood behind the red head, irritation radiating off of him. Her doe eyes narrowed at the blue eyed boy with the crossbow.
"If you keep looking, he's gonna see you." Theo placed a firm hand on Ophelia's arm. "Get back." Ophelia shook off the boy's hold. Theo gritted his teeth and pulled on Liam's arm only for the beta to glare at him. "I'm not letting you die here because of payback. Liam can gladly do that."
Theo clenched his jaw, as the two continued to stand their ground. He grabbed Ophelia's hand and Liam's arm dragging the two away.
"Let go." Ophelia growled at the Chimera.
"Let us go!" Liam demanded.
"Calm down!" Theo hissed at the two.
"I said let us go!" His glowing eyes glared into Theo's blue ones.
"What's going on with you two? This can't just be Nolan, or the hunters. Something around here is triggering you two." Theo said looking at the two.
"I'm fine." Liam denied.
"What is it?" Theo questioned looking between the two. "Lia? Cages? Scared of heights?" He listed off.
"I said leave us alone." Liam hissed.
"They're up here." A voice called out from behind the three.
Ophelia's narrowed eyes found Nolan's frightened blue one's. She sped over choking the human boy, who dropped his crossbow. Tilting her head to the side she hissed dropping them two down.
"Ophelia!" Theo shouted, running forwards nearly falling off the structure. "Damnit." He cursed.
▂▂▂▂
CAROLINE and Chris Argent watched the four over the monitors, they glanced to the third camera revealing Kol Mikaelson leaning against a concrete wall with a look of boredom. Growing frustrated, the blonde pressed her fingers on the intercom's button.
"You guys need to get out of there now." She announced warning the four.
The three watched as the four began walking only to come to a halt.
Chris clenched his jaw, "Guys, you need to leave now."
"Oh, bloody hell." Klaus cursed walking over behind his fiancé. The four watched as the other four tried prying open a door.
"No, no, no. Don't open that door!" Chris exclaimed into the microphone.
"Don't!" Caroline warned the four only for the metal door to swing open. Alarms beeped rapidly. The doors slammed shut, leaving the four locked in the room.
Chris pressed the numerous buttons on the console, trying to unlock the doors somehow and someway.
"Nope." He muttered. "Everything's shut down. They're locked in and we can't do anything about it."
Lydia panicked, "What's this?" She questioned looking down at the blinking light.
"Motion sensor." Chris answered looking down at the red button.
"What does 'H-2100' mean?" Lydia questioned looking between the three.
"Oxygen." Caroline answered with wide eyes, recalling her studies back in Whitmore college. "The air will turn into a fire."
Lydia parted her lips, "How long can a vampire and werewolf hold their breath?" Lydia asked looking between the three.
"We're about to find out." Chris said with worried blue orbs.
"I'll write a heart warming eulogy for Hayley and the other two." Klaus placed his hand over his heart, feigning a frown.
Caroline, Lydia and Chris sighed rolling their eyes at the hybrid.
