EVELYN STROLLED OUT OF THE BACK OF THE WAREHOUSE that she called her home. Her hands rested in the pockets of her black coat, attempting to find warmth in the chilling December air. It was Sunday, and since they finished a big job Friday it meant that Leonard was gonna be laying low for a while. If needed, he probably would be pulling off smaller jobs for the time being.
"Leonard?" Evelyn called out to him in surprise. She had heard from Mick the other night that he had left, and he wasn't going to be back until Wednesday. So to find him standing alone by the back exit fence was not something she had expected.
He glanced over his shoulder momentarily before staring back at the fence. It was like he was waiting for someone or something. "Don't you have somewhere to be? Have a life outside this job." Leonard said snarky as usual. Evelyn only chuckled under her breath. She was use to his random acts of coldness. He does it to everyone, so it never bothered her.
She came to stand beside him. "I would, but I didn't get my cut yet so..." she countered with a sly smirk managing to bring one out of him as well.
Leonard dug in the inside pocket of his black jacket then pulled out an envelope of cash. He held it out for her to take. "Wow, you just carried that with you because?" She joked but was still at least half serious. Evelyn grabbed the envelope and stashed it in her coat. "Look how you spoil me." She teased.
"Yeah, now go away." He replied with a smirk, but despite the smile he still meant it.
"What are you even doing out here?" She asked him ignoring his demand.
"Can't a man enjoy the scenery?" He replied monotoned. He was clearly trying to dodge the question.
Evelyn looked around them with furrowed brows. "Yeah, the look of old worn out buildings, noisy rusted machinery, and the highway is truly a beautiful sight." She replied with a grin.
Snart rolled his eyes. "Well, since you're nosey as hell-" Evelyn laughed loudly causing him to smile discretely. "I'm meeting someone. He's supposed to be bring me guns to test out before I decide to buy them."
"Oh, I can help. I mean, since I don't have anything to do anyway-" Evelyn began when Leonard cut her off rather quickly.
"No." He said firmly. "I don't want you anywhere near him."
"Why?" She questioned him. All the playfulness between them had diminished. "He's a weapons dealer, not some member of a mafia." She added with a small laugh. She didn't understand why he was acting this way. It's not like he hasn't brought her with him to other deals before.
"He's an arrogant asshole." He said simply.
She studied his appearance. His arms were crossed over his chest. His blue eyes fixed on the back road behind the exit fence, trying so hard not to falter and meet her eyes. His jaw locked making his strong jawline even more noticeable. Evelyn cleared her throat. Her sight fell to her boots momentarily. "Oh, okay." She sniffed due to the crisp air then looked up at him again. "So is he more or less of an arrogant asshole than you? Or is it about the same?" She retorted.
"Cute." Leonard replied flatly.
A black shiny Escalade with tinted windows turned the corner and pulled up to the gate. Leonard seemed to make eye contact with the man behind the wheel, but Evelyn couldn't make his figure out even when she was squinting. He gave him a nod then strolled over towards the gate. He unlatched it then slid the gate open allowing the man to drive inside the back lot. Leonard walked back over to her while the man parked by the back entrance of the warehouse.
"Let me do the talking." He told her as he grabbed her arm for a brief moment to gently pull her closer.
"Yes, boss." Evelyn said sarcastically with a mock salute. He sent her a glare, and she began to wonder who the hell this man is.
The driver-side door opened and a very familiar man stepped out, an arrogant grin on his face. His was well built, and the fact that he was dressed in black from head to toe it was really obvious. He had dark brown hair with chocolate brown eyes to match. He had tan skin and dimples when he smiled. This man was without a doubt handsome in her eyes. Evelyn cleared her throat when she caught herself staring for too long. She was hoping to play it off. Thankfully Leonard never called her out in it so she doesn't think he noticed.
He did.
"Snart." The man greeted happily with bit of a cocky undertone.
"Damon." He replied monotoned.
Damon turned to Evelyn. The smile on his face transformed into a grin. "Hello, beautiful. I remember you from my last visit. It's kinda hard to forget a face like yours." He told her smoothly, and she couldn't fight the blush on her face even if she wanted too. So far, this man didn't seem dangerous just a little arrogant.
He wasn't dangerous at all. Leonard could easily put him down if he ever stepped out of line. He just wanted that to be true more than he liked. Cause if it wasn't that meant he had to finally except the actual truth. The truth that he had feelings for Evelyn. The jealousy that coursed through him two months ago during Damon's last visit, he never wants to feel again. The moment he spotted her he made it clear to Snart that he was interested in her. It shouldn't bother him this much, but it does.
"Oh, uh, thanks." She said awkwardly. She couldn't remember the last time someone took in interest in her romantically. She wish she could count her flirtatious banter with Leo, but she doesn't know what Leonard actually thinks of her. He's so hard to read when it comes to how he feels about her. One minute she thinks he reciprocated her feelings then the next he had her questioning everything.
"I'm Evelyn." She told him while she extended her hand out for him to take.
Damon grabbed her hand and swiftly brought it up to his lips. He softly kissed her knuckles, and she felt a little weak in the knees. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I'm Damon, but you already know that."
Snart rolled his eyes. "I don't have all day." He snapped, and Evelyn glared at him. "Where is the stuff?"
Damon put his hands up in defense to Leonard's outburst. "Whoa, I got 'em in the back, relax."
"Then how about you stop talking and get to it." Leonard told him coldly.
"Leonard." Evelyn scolded. She didn't understand why he was being so rude. I mean, don't get her wrong he always had a bit of a temper problem. He wasn't a people person, in fact he was far from it, but when it came to business he always toned it down.
"Nah, it's fine." Damon told her with a small smile. He looked back at Snart. "I'll bring it inside, but you two can go on ahead."
"Fine." Leonard said blandly then waltzed right back inside the warehouse. She shook her head, but she still followed him in.
"What's your problem?" She asked him the minute they were out of earshot.
Leonard shrugged. "I already told you why I don't particularly like the guy."
"Yeah, but still-"
"Drop it, Evelyn." He ordered through gritted teeth.
Evelyn opened her mouth slightly, ready to chew him out for talking to her like that, but the sound of footsteps stopped her. However, that didn't mean she was gonna let it go. "Alright, it's been a slow month. This is all I got." Damon told Snart when he entered the warehouse. He carried two black cases in his right hand and one in his left.
"Let's see it then." Leonard told him while he gestured lazily to the cases with one hand. Damon placed the three cases side by side on a nearby table. He unlatched all of them then took a step back for them to get a good look.
The guns weren't anything extraordinary, but given his had experienced too much damage on their last heist, at least one of them had to do. That and he gave his backup to Evelyn two missions ago, because she destroyed hers. Don't ask. He only ever carries two weapons on him, since he travels so much.
"Which one do you think?" Leonard asked Evelyn as he picked up one with gloved fingers.
"What about this one-" she leaned forward to pick up the one on the end when Leonard grabbed her wrist. "What?"
"What did I tell you about handling guns? Especially when dealing with crooks." He reprimanded her, and she frowned. She felt like a kid being scolded by their parents.
She quirked a brow, and he rolled his eyes. He dug in his pockets, and pulled out a pair of gloves her sizes. It was like he knew she would invite herself to tag along. He put the pair of gloves in her hand. "Never handle guns without gloves, especially if the gun isn't yours. You touch this gun, you leave your fingerprints behind. And if this asshole sells the gun to someone else and they're careless enough to leave it behind in a crime scene, but were smart enough to wear gloves you would be the main suspect. Regardless if you had any connection to the crime. Don't be sloppy, Evelyn."
"Right..." she said with a nervous chuckle. "Thanks..." she whispered as she put the gloves on.
She picked the gun up to test it out when Damon came up behind her. "Need help?" He asked. No, she didn't any help at all. But was she gonna tell him that? No, she wasn't. She always wanted to know what those cliche scenes in movies and books felt like. He placed his hands over hers helping her aim on the faded movie poster that was left behind on the wall by the warehouse's previous owner.
Leonard chuckled under his breath. "Hey, Evelyn, remember that mission at the Central City art museum? You know the one were you shot the security guard on his left shoulder? You didn't even miss. You got the target on the first try."
Evelyn growled to herself. She sent him a hard glare, and he smirked. He was being so petty. Damon cleared his throat. "I'll be right back. I forgot my phone in my car."
Evelyn smiled at him, but then the moment he was gone it vanished. "What the hell is your problem?" She spit.
"What's my problem? What is your problem? Why are you pretending like you don't know how to shoot a gun? You really think it was smart to try that around me? I was the one who taught you how." Leonard said, his voice was distant.
"You didn't teach me. I knew way before-"
"I taught you how to properly shoot. Let's face it, you weren't that great. But that wasn't your fault. Whoever taught you should've been shot." He said with disgust.
"Whatever." She mumbled. She turned away from him picking the weapon of choice back up. She raised it to the poster like before. "We both know you're only acting like this,
because for whatever reason you're jealous."
Leonard's jaw locked momentarily. He walked up behind her, and she tensed up due to their close proximity. He was standing so close that she could practically feel his breath on her ear. Her mouth suddenly felt dry. He his hands grabbed her wrist. He lifted the gun a little higher. "Please, we both know I have nothing to be jealous over." He said lowly into her ear that it sent shivers down her spine.
He let his hands drop back to his side purposely-painfully-slow. Leonard took a step back with a smirk on his face. She glanced at him from over her shoulder with flushed cheeks. "You need to fix your aim."
