A GAME OF CHARADES
NELLY WAS THROWING ALL CAUTION TO THE WIND BY SUMMONING AKIRA TO HER HOUSE THE NEXT DAY.
She hadn't expected Embry's words from the day prior to be true, but the minute she tried to explain what had occurred, her words fizzled on her tongue. She stood there in front of Akira, gaping like a damn fish, all while the girl that was sat on her bed raised an unimpressed eyebrow.
"Did you just lose your sense of speech or something?" Akira questioned, watching the girl struggle to even spit out any words related to what happened. Sam's words were echoing in her head.
You can't say anything to anyone.
The whole reason why she summoned the Fuller girl over was to share the new knowledge she obtained. It was clear that Akira still didn't know, despite the wolfy rumour mill spinning its tale of how Leah Clearwater imprinted on the girl, and so Nelly took it upon herself to at least try and tell her.
She mentally cussed him and his stupid Alpha commands out, groaning under her breath before an idea surged into her mind. "We need to play Charades."
Akira's grimace wasn't subtle in the slightest. "Nell, is this your way of saying you're going through a psychotic break?"
Nelly's head snapped towards hers at that, her hands going to her hips. "No, Kiraโ" she exasperated, "just trust the process, yeah?"
The Sequoia girl got into position when Akira begrudgingly nodded. "Okay... but you suck at charades."
An instant flashback started banging around in Nelly's head from last year, when a Fuller family game night went south real quick. She and Tate had been invited to attend, and of course the second Akira and Nelly thought they were winning, the charades category was up next.
Till this day, Nelly could still remember the scowl of outrage on Akira's face when she tried mimicking an impression of a dolphin, but it looked more like the workings of a headless chicken. That cost them the entire night, and they'd never done a game of charades since.
But now? Now it was needed.
"Just trust the process, Kira!"

Almost an entire hour went by, and had you been a bystander in what was happening in Nelly's bedroom, you would've been just as royally confused as Akira presently was.
Once Nelly was done with her extravagant body movements and impressions, huffing with a victorious smile, she hoped Akira could finally put the pieces together. She did, but she was still confused by the end result she got.
"So, what you're saying is that all of our friends on the Rez turn into giant dogs, and now you turned into one yesterday," Akira restated based on the charades she watched her friend go through. Nelly nodded, a slight wince on her face at the exact wording her friend chose, but it was close enough. "It took an hour for you to tell me a joke?"
Akira didn't believe her. "I'm not joking, it actually happened," she responded firmly, her eyebrows pinched as she tried to get her friend to believe her, "I have a fear of dogsโ I'd never willingly make a joke about them!"
"That's the stuff that happens in movies, though," the girl responded, shaking her head in disbelief. "I love you Nell, but that's a load of shit."
Nelly felt the subtle shake of her shoulders set in, feeling frustrated that her friend wouldn't simply take her word for it. It sounded far fetched, sure, but in the simplest terms possible, Nelly had turned into a massive dog yesterday.
In a moment of sheer desperation, she blurted out a string of words. "Let me prove it!"
Akira blinked at her. "What?"
"I can prove it!" Nelly repeated, surging forward to grab her wrist. She was tugging Akira upright with an iron clad grip, pulling the pair into the direction of the backyard.
Akira was sputtering out incoherent words while Nelly pulled her past the tree line, the Sequoia girl looking around the forest to ensure no one was around.
"If you befriended me all those years ago just to kill me in the woods at this very moment, you're so doing life in prison for premeditated murder," the Fuller girl complained, crossing her arms over her chest when Nelly finally let her go. "But ultimately I'd respect the hustle."
"I'm not gonna kill you, dumbass," Nelly scoffed, taking a plethora of steps away. She inhaled through her nose, a little hesitant now. "Okay, so I guess I just go for it? Right?"
Akira threw her hands in the air. "Are you seriously asking me? Aren't you the expert of this pyramid scheme?"
Nelly rolled her eyes with a snort. She tuned Akira's ramblings out, and closed her eyes. Though she didn't really know how she had phased yesterday, she knew it usually happened whenever people were angry.
So, she channeled all of her most recent anger, manifesting the emotion into imagery behind her closed eyelids. She visualized Kim's sneaking around, Embry's cruel words, her brother's untimely demiseโ she thought of it all.
She felt her body stumble forward on its on, and as soon as she'd thought of her brother's lifeless gaze settled on hers, she found herself staring at Akira's more than startled expression.
Her vision was twice as good as it now was, and her hearing was borderline impeccable given the fact that she could now hear all the sounds of the forest. She towered over Akira, making sure to lower the involuntary growl that escaped her by crouching down onto the leaf-covered ground.
Akira looked like she'd just seen something horrific, and in hindsight she had; she watched with her own eyes the way Nelly's body morphed into a giant wolf with brown fur, her ripped clothes laying on the earthy floor from the action.
"Iโ I think I just pissed myself," she mumbled out, covering her mouth with her hand. Nelly attempted to shake her head, but Akira merely put her hand out. "No seriously; I need an extra pair of pants when we get back to your place."
Nelly made a huffing sound, and Akira must've caught her exaggerated eye roll based on the accusatory finger she pointed in her direction. "Hey! No attitude right now please!" she begged sharply, her shoulders somewhat sinking as she looked at the creature before her, finally taking it all in. "Holy shit! You're a dog!"
The shifter felt her heart rate calm to the point where she phased back, ignoring the way she was starkly missing her clothes in order to shoot a sneer at the girl across from her.
"Wolf, Kira. There's a difference."
Akira shrugged her flannel off of her body, balling it up and throwing it at her friend.
"You can tell me all about it when we get your naked booty inside."
