Chapter 25

You waited for the boys outside of their locker room, and the first one to emerge was Chigiri.
"Ready to go?" He looked on edge, and his attempt to smile hopefully made him look almost frantic. You shifted awkwardly.
"Um, I'm going to be hanging out with Reo today," you said, and the male's heart dropped to his stomach.
"Are you sure you're ready?" He asked, and you nodded surely.
"You don't have to worry about me, Chigiri," you said. "Thank you for taking care of me, but I need to get back on my own feet eventually."
"Of course you do." You felt hands on your shoulders and turned to see Reo. Chigiri glared at him and Nagi as they exited the locker room.
"She doesn't need a bodyguard Chigiri," Reo said smugly. "And I hope you weren't expecting to become any more than that." You elbowed him in his stomach.
"Quit messing with him," you said before turning to Chigiri. "We should go out sometime. I really want to thank you somehow. Is that okay?" Chigiri grit his teeth and clenched his fists. This is what he dreaded. While your voice was still softer and you still seemed nervous about things, you were returning to your old self and without him. It wasn't fair. He wasn't ready yet.
"Y-yeah," he said, turning to walk down the hall. "That's just fine. I'll see you later." He clenched his bag as he walked away without another word.

"I hope he's not upset," you said as you turned to look at Reo and Nagi who both looked like they couldn't care less.
"You two are so inconsiderate," you growled.
"Hey, Reo, can we get ice cream?" Nagi asked, not looking up from the game on his phone as the three of you exited the school.
"Nagi, we got ice cream on the way here," Reo groaned. "Besides, the guy there is so annoying."
"I wouldn't mind ice cream," you joined, making both of them quiet down. "I mean if you don't mind. It's a nice day outside and I'd like to stay out for a bit."  Reo frowned, knowing that it was almost impossible for him to say no to both of you, but he still didn't want to immediately relent.
"I'll think about it on the way," he said, and you chuckled as he began to remind you of a parent.

"Hey, now that I think about it, Chigiri was probably the reason that you never answered the phone," Nagi said as you all walked, catching you and Reo off guard.
"What do you mean?" You asked.
"He was probably blocking our calls so you wouldn't see them," Nagi explained, and Reo snorted.
"Sounds like him."
"First off, I wasn't on my phone very often anyways," you said. "And if he did, he probably didn't want anything to disturb me."
"Or he wanted to keep you all to himself and he already didn't like us," Reo guessed, and you rolled your eyes.
"How about we change the subject to something other than Chigiri?" You suggested. "Man, yall talk so much shit."
"You should see what he says when you're not around," Nagi said, and Reo's head snapped towards him.
"OH, yeah like you've never talked shit about someone," he said, and you couldn't help but laugh. The two of them stopped as your laughter became continuous, and you realized it had been a while since you had laughed at all let alone this hard. Yeah, you didn't want to just leave Chigiri alone but you needed this. You heard the low hum of an engine and turned around to see the car that was normally outside your house making a U-turn, following you slowly. You sighed, catching both of the males' attention.
"Something wrong?" Reo asked and you motioned to the car as the three of you rounded the corner. Soon enough, the car was behind you.
"Is that a police car?" Nagi muttered, and you nodded.
"Apparently, I'm suspected of Yoichi's murder," You lowered your head. "Two cops showed up at my house a while back and that cars' been outside my house ever since. I don't know what they think I'll find, but I must look hella suspicious hanging with the two of you. Did the two of you get questioned?"
"My parents took care of both of ours," Reo said, motioning between him and Nagi. "They can take care of your if you want."
"No," you said reluctantly. "My uncles' a cop so I've been meaning to help. And if I can't get in touch with him, I'll just wait until my Grandfather gets home." Reo frowned, glancing back at the cop car.
"If you insist."

The bell above the door rang as the three of you entered the ice cream shop. It was mostly empty since it was later in the day and all the kids that came here after school had left, but Nagi frowned when he saw the creepy guy at the register, refilling one of the flavors when his eyes landed on you.
"I want Vanilla," Nagi said to Reo, who shrugged.
"Sorry, bro. I gotta take care of something so you're on your own." Nagi whined.
"This is such a hassle," he groaned, but you grabbed a hold of his sleeve.
"Come on, Nagi, you're a big boy, let's go." You dragged him to the counter while Reo left the building, heading towards the cop car.

"Two vanilla ice cream cones, please. Nagi stood draped over you as you ordered for the both of you.
"You're a goddess, Y/n," he praises, happy that he didn't have to order for himself. The man at the other side of the counter grinned at you.
"That'll be five dollars," he said and you raised a brow.
"No, I said two ice creams," you clarified, noticing that he was naming the price of just one. "Yeah, but I don't charge pretty girls for theirs." The man said and you rolled your eyes as you handed him, a five-dollar bill.

Reo grinned as he walked out of the building, walking around it where the cop car was parked. He grinned kindly as he knocked on the window, revealing the female cop that had questioned you. Her face paled when she saw him.
"Officer Hana!" He greeted. "Nice day, isn't it? I bet it sucks to be on the job." The woman sighed.
"Well, someone has to do it," she said.
"I bet your husband loves his view from the window," Reo said and the woman shrugged.
"He likes rainy days better," she said. "It's relaxing to listen to as well as watch." Reo nodded understandingly.
"Yeah, that does sound better," He said. "Remind me, who's paying for his life support?" The woman shifted uncomfortably.
"Y-your parents are, sir, and that's why I do my best to ensure your school and your neighborhood remain safe." Reo raised a brow.
"Is that so?" He muttered, hand reaching out to grip the woman's throat, pulling her head out the window. "Then why are you out here, messing with my things?" The woman stuttered and gasped, but not once did she even think of trying to stop him.
"S-she's a suspect...In a murder-"
"I did it," Reo said. "There, you have your murderer. Are you gonna arrest me?"
"N-no, sir."
"That's right," Reo grinned. "Because if you even think of touching me, your husbands' life support will be shut off, and my parents will make sure you can't even get your hands on an application, let alone apply for a job. But all those things could be considered merciful compared to what I have in store..." Reo pulled her closer, nearly pulling out of the car as he leaned in close to her ear. "If you ever come near my Y/n again, I'll kill your husband in the hospital, your father and mother who live by the countryside, and your brother who just graduated from the academy, and then I'll kill you. Do you understand me, Hana?" The woman choked on her words as she struggled to comply. Reo grinned as he released her.
"That's good," he said. "I'd hate to have to go through the trouble of doing all of that. Let's save us both some extra work."

"Here you go." You and Nagi took the ice cream from the man. "Don't forget your receipt." The man made sure to hand it to you, and you raised a brow at the hastily written down phone number scribbled onto the paper.
"Um, I-"
"We don't need this," The paper was snatched from your hand and slammed back into the workers. Nagi rolled his eyes at the man.
"Honestly, what girl would be interested in a guy that works at an ice cream shop putting weird stuff in people's ice cream." You looked up at Nagi, watching as he turned to cone sideways, to reveal the black powder between the two scoops and inside the cone.
"Salt?" Nagi observed. "Honestly, how mature can you be?" Rage flashed in his dull eyes. You recognized the look on his face to be the same as when he and Chigiri were about to fight. You quickly grabbed his arm.
"It's alright, Nagi," you said. "He only charged me for one so you're not losing any money. You can just have mine." You handed him your ice cream before leading him out of the store where Reo was waiting.
"Something happen?" The male asked, noticing just the one cone.
"I just lost a taste for it, that's all," you responded as the three of you resumed walking towards Reo's house.
"What were you out here doing?" You asked curiously, and Reo held back a grin as the cop car drove past you and down the street.
"Taking care of something," Reo said. "As a member of my parents' business, sometimes I have to remind people of their places and the consequences of stepping out of line." You rolled your eyes at him.
"I don't even want to know."
