Chapter 23
"Good morning, Y/n!" You looked up at Chigiri who, as always, woke you up with a smile. You sat up, looking around the room, and once he was sure you wouldn't fall asleep again, he walked over to the closet. The smell of French toast made your stomach growl and help you wake up.
"I made French toast this morning," he said as if reading your mind. "I tried to follow your grandfather's recipe, but-" he took out a lounge set, preparing for another day of sitting around the house but then stopped short, even widened as if he had just realized something. Before you could ask him what was wrong, he turned back to your closet, putting the clothes back and rummaging through another section of your closet.
"Let's see..." he muttered. "Wanna come over here and help me find something nice for you to wear?" Your head tilted in confusion.
"Something nice?" You repeated, and Chigiri nodded, already taking out a pink shirt he thought would look nice on you.
"We're going to the town square today!"
"It's so nice today, isn't it?" Chigiri asked, and you nodded, the sun shining down on you after being in that house for so long, helping to lift your spirits a little as you walked. You noticed a cop car parked across the street, but you couldn't see anything through its tinted windows. Chigiri tried to move to block your vision of it and smiled.
"What do you say we take a walk, hm?" He asked. "I heard it's really nice on sunny days." You nodded, allowing him to lead you down the sidewalk in into the park.
Being surrounded by the beauty of the park reminded you of its pride and joy. There were kids playing, people walking their dogs, couples young and old walking and having picnics, and anything else one could think of when it came to a park. Once you arrived, your eyes winded as memories of your times here. With your parents, your grandparents, and Isagi. While the thought saddened you, your body moved on its own, as if by force to lead Chigiri to a spot you remembered. It was a less-known path, a path that you knew like the back of your hand.
The trees were so thick over the path, that they blocked out the sun entirely, and cast a green light over the both of you, giving almost a magical vibe. You smiled as the wind blew through the trees, making them rustle and causing the lights to dance.
"Isn't it pretty?" You asked and Chigiri nodded, watching as your skin seemed to brighten up under the light. His eyes got caught on a few flowers by a tree, and he made sure you were distracted before he picked them up, grouping them together. You had walked a few paces ahead before you realized he stopped.
"What are you doing?" You asked, and he smiled at you, hiding his little project behind his back.
"Close your eyes," he said, and you laughed as you did so, hearing his footsteps approaching. You felt something light atop your head, and you opened your eyes when you felt him step back, eyes widened after a moment in realization.
"Is this-" You gently took it off, gasping when you saw a crown, made out of the same flowers that Isagi used to make for you. Once again, you felt saddened by it, but it's like your words were rearranged and spoken for you. "These are my favorite flowers." You blurted. "How did you know?" Chigiri smiled confidently.
"Just a hunch." You smiled, leading him further down the path.
While the two of you took the forest route to the shopping district, Chigiri got a notification on his phone, browning when he saw what it was.
"What's wrong?" You asked curiously, and he moved his phone so you could see it.
Kamikaze High: Back In session on Monday. Can't wait to see everyone!
"Great," you muttered, although you didn't feel that unhappy about it, or rather, you couldn't as the two of you entered the town square. Since it was earlier in the day, not many people were there, allowing the two of you to talk and explore freely.
"It'll be alright," Chigiri assured. "I'll make sure Reo and Nagi stay far away from you." His brow furrowed at the thought of those two or Bachira getting anywhere near you. Your mind briefly went back to the incident, and the questions you had about Reo.
"So where do you want to go first?" Chigiri asked and you raised a brow as you scanned over all of the stores in the shopping district.
"There." You pointed, and Chigiri followed your gaze to a small cotton candy stand further away. He chuckled.
"If that's what my princess wishes," he bowed dramatically making you cringe as you tried to pull him up.
"Get up," you whisper shouted, trying to pull him up, but he merely grabbed the hand you used and kissed the back of it, making you more embarrassed.
"What's wrong?" He asked, looking up at you with a mischievous smirk. "Is it a crime to worship my daling?" You grew even more flustered, so muhmch you could barley voice a response and Chigiri laughed as he finally stood up straight, hand still holding yours as he led you to the cotton candy stand.
"Come on," he said. "Let's get you your candy."
After you ate, Chigiri shopped with you, insisting to pay for everything (luckily you shopped modestly for once to spare him) before brining you back to the park.
"Why are we back here?" You asked as led you to the field where most couples went out of dates. He grabbed one of the bags and took out a blanket and some snacks.
"When did you get those?" You asked curiously as he set the blanket down and placed the snacks on top of them.
"While you were in the dressing room," he said. "You take an hour in there."
"I do not!" You protest you as he pulled you to sit down on the blanket with him.
"Now why are we here?" You demanded only to jump at a booming sound coming from the sky. You looked up just to see a flash of color decorating the sky and realized there were many others in the field as well.
"It was a tradition that after the winter Formal the students would make their own fireworks and blast them," Chigiri said. "But since it was canceled, a few decided to make a bunch of their own and light them here for other students to come see." You suddenly realized that the people around you were all people you had seen around school. Another firework went off, and you watched with fascination as blue and white sparks danced across the sky, popping loudly.
"So pretty," you marveled, but Chigiri was too focused on you to even watch the fireworks. He hadn't been sure if he'd ever see you smile like this again. He smiled, wrapping an arm around you and pulled you close to him.
"Chigiri?" You looked up at him in confusion.
"Just enjoy the show," he said. "I'm glad you enjoyed our time out." You leaned your head on his shoulder, feeling strangely content with the day.
