[ Poison ] - [The Symposium]

The golden light of late afternoon bathed the school grounds, casting long shadows and painting everything with a soft, warm glow. Students filtered out of classrooms, their chatter and laughter blending into a harmonious symphony of relief and anticipation.

It was the end of school, a moment of transition from the rigor of academia to the freedom of the evening.

In this fleeting time of day, as the sun dipped lower on the horizon, Ni-ki and Vienna found themselves meandering across the wild fields adjacent to the school, seeking solace and a brief escape from the mounting pressures that loomed over them.

Ni-ki, with a casual air, broke the comfortable silence between them. "Why was the scrawny officer looking for you again?"

"He came by to ask me about Hana," she said, her voice soft but steady.

"What did he want to know?"

Vienna hesitated, her brow furrowing as she replayed the conversation in her mind. "He seemed to be probing deeper into something. It felt like he's onto a lead."

Ni-ki's expression remained inscrutable, though a flicker of contemplation passed over his face. "I see," he replied, his voice calm and even.

That night, Ni-ki was unusually quiet, his silence adding an extra layer of tranquility to their evening. Vienna didn't mind; their mutual quietude was something she had come to cherish. After dinner, she immersed herself in her studies, her focus unwavering until exhaustion finally claimed her.

Since moving into his home, Vienna had discovered a newfound depth of restfulness in her sleep. In the dead of night, she stirred as Ni-ki quietly opened the window. A gentle night breeze slipped into the room, caressing her skin with a cool, refreshing touch that was a welcome change from the electric fan's sterile air.

The soft rustle of the night carried a sense of peace, cocooning her in a serene embrace that lulled her back into a deep, comforting slumber.

After a while, Vienna was stirred again by the faint sound of running water from the bathroom. Still half-asleep, she sat up in bed and squinted toward the source of the light. A soft, yellow glow seeped through the bathroom door, slicing through the darkness of the room. Blinking away the remnants of sleep, Vienna shuffled over and peeked inside.

There, illuminated by the warm light, was Ni-ki. He was shirtless, his focus intense as he scrubbed something vigorously in the basin. The sight was unexpectedly intimate, and Vienna felt a curious mix of intrusion and fascination as she watched him work, the quiet hum of the running water filling the stillness of the night.

Ni-ki's hair was soaked, water droplets cascading from his strands as he washed the object with fervent determination. His fringe fell over his eyes, obscuring any hint of emotion they might reveal.

"Ni-ki..." Vienna's soft voice cut through the stillness, breaking the silence.

He tensed, his movements halting abruptly. He spun around quickly, his body shielding the object from view. His dark eyes locked onto Vienna's with an intense, almost accusatory gaze.

"What are you doing?" Vienna asked, her voice tinged with confusion and concern.

Ni-ki remained silent, the tension in the room palpable. After a few moments, Vienna took a cautious step into the bathroom, her curiosity and concern driving her forward.

"Hey!" Ni-ki's voice was laced with a sharp edge, a clear warning.

Vienna's gaze remained fixed on him, her eyes unwavering.

"I'm just washing my undergarments," Ni-ki said with a smirk. "Want to come take a look?"

Vienna's eyes widened in shock. For a few moments, she stood there, speechless, before the realization hit her. Embarrassed, she quickly averted her gaze and scurried back to the bed.

Ni-ki sighed silently with relief. With a swift motion, he used his long legs to close the bathroom door. He turned back to the basin, only to find that the dark red liquid that had once stained the water had been completely rinsed away by the running tap.

He switched off the bathroom light and slipped back into bed. Vienna lay beneath the gentle glow of the moonlight, her delicate form bathed in its soft radiance.

Aware that she was still awake, Ni-ki reached out and drew her close, his arms encircling her waist with a tender embrace. They fit together perfectly, like two interlocking pieces, their bodies melding seamlessly.

Vienna caught a faint whiff of beer on him and murmured softly, "Did you go drinking?"

"Just a little," Ni-ki admitted.

Turning to face him, Vienna wrapped her arms around Ni-ki, returning his embrace with equal warmth.

The two young bodies clung to each other, their dark eyes locked in a profound gaze. Each breath they took seemed to echo the other's, their bodies trembling with a mix of apprehension and longing, perfectly attuned to one another.

As she gently caressed his hand, her fingers traced over a deep cut that marred his skin. Her eyes widened in shock as she felt the rough, jagged edge beneath her touch.

"Does it hurt?" she asked, her voice filled with concern and tenderness.

Ni-ki's hand went limp in her grasp. He looked at her with a faint, weary smile.

His voice was barely a whisper as he mumbled, "Vi... you're the first to ask that."

Vienna's heart ached at his words. She tightened her grip on his hand, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.

Ni-ki traced his nose along her brows, lingering on her long eyelashes and the delicate curve of her nose. When he reached her lips, he pressed his own against hers with a tender, unhurried touch.

The cool night breeze brushed against their skin, sending a shiver up their spines. Vienna responded to Ni-ki's kiss with a slow, passionate embrace, their connection deepening in the quiet of the night.

As exhaustion settled over them, the two youths drifted into a peaceful sleep, wrapped in each other's arms.

Just before the veil of slumber claimed him, Ni-ki stirred and whispered, "Where are the keys to your house?"

Vienna, her voice soft and sleepy, replied, "They're in my bag."

"I'll take you home tomorrow," Ni-ki said. "And I'll help you move your books back. This place is too cramped."

"Alright," Vienna murmured, her eyes already closing as she nestled closer to him.
